Popular Post Peaksy68
Went out for 9 holes with my wife this afternoon. She’s just starting to play. She hadn’t played or even hit balls for quite a while and went out with very low expectations. She managed to strike the ball better than ever. Only a couple of shockers and lots of really solid strikes. She even managed to putt reasonably. I had a couple of bad holes while I wasn’t concentrating, but managed to play the last 6 in 2 under EnderinAZ, cksurfdude, sirchunksalot and 8 others 11 Quote 849 Pro Evenflow Riptide 6.0 F8 3 & 5 Woods Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 TS2 7 Wood Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 MP18 MMC - Project X LZ 5.5 Zipcore Wedges 50,54,58 - Project X LZ 5.5 MLA Tour Mallet 33" Z Star Pioneer bag buggy
Popular Post Josh Parker
Had a really good round this afternoon. First round with the Newton shaft and I think it has a ton of promise. Hit 11/14 FW's and a nice little baby fade with great trajectory. Iron play was pretty spot on all round with 2 shots flying the green where I would have normally have been front-mid green. Really focusing on take a way and I am liking the progress. Ended up with a 3 over with 4 bogeys and one birdie. 2 bogeys came from flying green and the other two were putting errors. Really happy with the round. Popular Post Champal3003
I went out Thursday evening after work and shot a 102 (55) (47). Weather was beautiful, I had a tough front nine, had been a month since I had been out but got better as the round went. I had a 1 foot birdie putt on 17 that I missed being above the hole. I have switched putters and now playing with the Odyssey 11 in which i like alot better than the Cleveland Huntington beach 8 I had been playing for past 2 years. They are different putters but I can already see some improving over it from just 1 round. Going back out Sunday with our group so hope to improve even more and get ready for warmer weather and playing more. Popular Post EnderinAZ
I ran the game today. 5, 4 man teams of mixed handicaps. Score 1 net ball on the par 3s. Score 4 net balls on the par 4s, and score 3 on the net 5s. Told the guys who were whining about the scoring matrix that they had to try today. That they couldn't sit back and coast on the hard par 4 holes as their score had to be counted. They grumbled a bit and then we moved on. I had a bad first 6 holes. Guess my mind was still on the pre game meeting. 3 doubles and 4 3 putts. Stopped and watched my MGI roll down the parking lot from 18 to 1 (we started on 12) and decided there and then that today my game was not going to auger into the ground. For the next 12 holes I shot nothing higher than a bogie and sunk 3 birdies. 39-44 for a reasonable 83. The VERY best part of today was I may have solved a major portions of my chipping and pitching issues in the long grass. I had nearly all of my chips and pitch shots go where they were intended to go and stop within a foot or from their intended final stop point. I stood there visibly stunned the first time my chip shot popped out of that horrible heavy grass, traveled toward the pin and came to rest about a foot past. It has not done that for me since before overseeding. Popular Post Syks7
Another decent day on the course. Got some winter golf in up in the mountains and I broke 70 again. on a par 60. +9 on the day with much more good than bad. I hit a lot of good shots today and very few truly bad ones. The highlight of the day was this 134 yard blind approach for a tap in birdie. Feeling good about the way the year has started. Fongle
Terrible weather today, so played the St Andrews Old Course on a sim this afternoon with a friend. New clubs were just feeling dialled, shot a -2. Popular Post Prodigal Duffer
I’ve been trying to get a playing group started down here, and today, we had our first game. Weather was nice, cool, low 50s and sunny. One of our four couldn’t make it due to a death in the family. My actual play was disappointing, continuing a trend from last week (thanks to @sirchunksalot and others for their kind words after my emo post). I was pretty good with my driver, except for 3 or 4 holes. Last year, driver was a real weapon for me. Most disappointing was my iron play. Feel lost out there. I felt like my putting was good, but my analytics tell me I was losing 2ish strokes. Well, I don’t give a crap about my less than stellar score. Had a great time with the group, and invited them over for a post-game bourbon. We have our next outing tentatively scheduled. My play was better than last week, which is nice, but I am absolutely jazzed about the group getting off the ground. Celebrating the holiday tomorrow by playing with a friend our kids. Hopefully, I get things a little more figured out, but feeling really grateful for the chance to have played today. Edit: one of my group found a ball on which someone had written A$$ (yes, with dollar signs). We are trying to figure out a way to incorporate it into the monthly game, maybe some kind of traveling trophy or something. Our group is not a competitive group, no one is keeping a leaderboard, so I don’t anticipate there would be a match winner. Perhaps it could go to the guy who had the most memorable weird shot. I don’t know; if you guys have any fun ideas for how we can use this ball, I’m all ears. Popular Post BallsLeon
With Presidents' Day off I walked 18 holes this morning at Sykes/Lady Overland Park GC on the North & West courses from the white tees (Par 70, 5711yds, 67.7/116). Shot a 96 (49 front/47 back) and back under 100 again with a respectable 35 putts. Weather was colder than expected with a frost delay for about an hour and a half. As a solo I was able to slot in a bit earlier with another twosome in a cart. Good group of guys and seemed like we were playing to a similar skill level. Walking was great on the North course closer to the clubhouse, but the West course is not on the same property and requires you to cart over (setting up/taking down pushcart multiple times). Finished in under 4hrs, but with the course backed up behind us it felt like we had to rush. Highlights: Dead straight 3-wood down the fairway on hole 5, leaving an 80 yd wedge shot (~260yds) ~14ft putt on hole 13, downhill with big right-to-left break, managed to find the right line. Tricky greenside chip on hole 14. Uphill over a bunker to a pin directly behind. Chipped into the slope right above the bunker and nearly went in. Lowlights: Hassle of loading/unloading carts multiple times Getting off the tee majority of the time, seem to have yips/tendency to hit way behind the ball. Missed putt on hole 18 from ~12ft, pretty darn close lipped out back towards me. Popular Post Rob Person
Got a ton of practice in at the range today, see practice post) then skated out for 18. Front nine was awesome for me after the range time. 12 GIR, even after a couple of disappointing tee shots. 9 pars, 4 birdies, 2 bogeys, 3 doubles. Back 9 was definitely more difficult. Either fatigue or more water holes, or both. Still shot 90, and ok with that considering... this is hole 4 on the back 9, 175y par 3. One of the windiest holes consistently here. I went 3w and wind knocked it back easily 10 yards. Caught the front hill and rolled back onto water. Used driver next, landed front edge of rough, rolled 15 yards onto the green. 2 putted from 25'. Bad double Bogey. My buddy hit driver, knocked a sky rocket, landed and rolled out 15 feet from the pin. New swing dynamics worked well for me today. The DB was on fire!!! Only a couple of 1 putts, the rest were 2 putts. Popular Post EnderinAZ
Well today the round was...there. Drove the ball well, hit my full swing approach shots well, and putted very well. The problem is/was when I drive the ball well I end up on nearly all of the par 4s inside 100 yards. My full swing 58 degree lob wedge is good for 95 to 97 yards, when it finally hits the ground. Most of the time I expect to see it has ice on it from the altitude. Inside 95 yards I am pitching. Today, as my father used to so ineloquently put it, I couldn't hit a bull in the ass with a base fiddle! I have been working on re-learning the Dave Pelz finesse swing. Made good contact with the ball, but without a great deal of finesse. When I tell people I am hooking I WANT to be talking about fishing with my friend Red for sockeye salmon up at his place on the Kenai river in Alaska. Not watching my ball take a no crap left turn as it clears the sand traps on it way to dramatically missing the 17th green. Two of those hooks cost me 5 strokes on two of the par 5s. The non-finesse finesse swing cost me at least 3 strokes for being long on three other holes. Inside of 15 yards the short chips and floppy type shots were spot on so the practice is paying off...slowly. Anyway is was a fine warm day to be out walking the course. I didn't loose any balls, and I start it all over again on Wednesday. berkeleybob, IndyBonzo, William P and 9 others 10 2 Quote Driver Sim Max2 Hybrids G430 2, 3, 4 Irons ZX4 6-PW Wedges Hi-Toe 50, 54, 58 Putter 2Ball Ten ArmLock Golf cart MGI Zip Navigator
Popular Post berkeleybob
Heyo! Did a sim round this morning. On the front nine I was +9 with a 45. I felt like I was playing some of the smartest golf that I’ve played in a while, regardless that it was a sim course. Then I fell apart on the back nine with a 54, ending with a 99. Ouch. I jarred my wrist in the shop the other day, so that wasn’t helping, but that doesn’t really account for hitting it out of bounds twice on one hole. I’m thinking I need to keep some better brain food in my bag. Ah well, I’ll be back in the saddle later this week, and we’ll see how I do. Popular Post Preeway
Played round 2 of 2024 yesterday and there definitely a few cobwebs that need to get dislodged and cleaned up. Driver was working well minus a couple errant tee shots. Was hitting the 4-wood pure. Approach shots were like throwing darts left handed (but I’m right handed). A few found the target but no consistency at all. Chipping and putting saved the day but putting on dormant greens is tough. Had two putts near 100’ and felt good walking away with a 3 putt. Popular Post TylorJudd
Had my second lesson today, everything is right where it needs to be. We focused on the longer bag today, starting with the 6i moving through the 5/4 into the 5 wood and last the driver. We’ve determined shafts to be a culprit of forcing me to not turn as much to prevent the left miss, just being too soft. That was encouraging, 4/5 iron gapping isn’t quite enough to warrant the 4 iron so we’ll move into more of a “GI” 4 or 3 iron for approaches into greens. The 5 wood we tweaked the stance ever so slightly more narrow with toes pointing out a bit, we were getting great 250/260 carry with 280 totals, and the driver came up to 176 swing speed with 295/300 carries, spin was a touch high between 2700-3100 but I’m going to shift the 14g weight forward on the Paradym, to see if that will drop a touch. Popular Post Jmikecpa
Played Disney Palm yesterday for my first round in close to three months. Course was soaked so it was cart path only and very windy to add to the day. Decided to play the course at 6,500 yards just so it was a little bit enjoyable. Actually hit it a lot better than I thought I would and lipped out an eagle putt on the first hole. Stayed solid the rest of the way and posted a +2 74 which I call a win. The new 5 wood is a keeper, it just does what I need it to do. Very easy to flight and I can move it both ways. I know I have a new driver incoming to test for the site, but the TSR3 is a beast now that I found the right shaft. ejgaudette, sirchunksalot, cksurfdude and 8 others 9 2 Quote WITB 2024 Driver: Qi10 LS 9* Ltd. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
Did a late afternoon round today. I rummaged through my collection of golf balls and pulled out a sleeve of TaylorMade Penta 5 golf balls. These came out in 2012 as a five piece golf ball. Roughly three dozen have been sitting around in my closet for quite some time. I was shocked with the performance. I’m not one to spin the ball back but these would spin back hard. I hit center of the green and had two almost spin back off the green and a third one did. Crazy what a ball can do. Drives were really good and long. But anything other than wedges and the driver I lost distance on. Not the balls fault, I just don’t generate enough speed to compress the ball enough. But once I got used to the ball, it was fun for the round. Just a little unpredictable. I had to get used to hitting past the pin where normally I hit in front of the pin and get a one hop and stop. Overall the weather was perfect and my game was intact. I was one under through 13 holes and ran into a log jam of people so I called it a day and headed in. Looking forward to my new golf shoes showing up at the house tomorrow. Friday they will get a tour of the course. Popular Post sirchunksalot
I played 9 holes after work with a couple of friends at Bear Trace golf course in Harrison, TN. It's a beautiful state park course and one that I have not traditionally played well the times I've been there. I'm happy to report nothing had changed in that regard. I shot 59 after starting out par, bogey, double. We played the back since they are doing some tree trimming on the course and had the front closed this week. My best shot came on the par putt on 10, I sank a 22 footer. It all went downhill after that. I can't complain, I was hitting driver good and only lost 2 balls. Unfortunately, it was two balls on the tee shot on the par 3 14th. It's a forced carry over a part of the lake and I hit two bad shots into the mud. My short game improved a bit from my last round, but I still hit a few bad ones that penalized me. I was harshly reminded of how bad of a bunker player I was when I got in one and hit over the green into another one. I was able to get out of that one then proceeded to 4 putt the hole. At least I avoided this one. I had a good time, though. It was great to be back in a course hitting some balls and hanging with friends. We even saw some deer! It's early in the season and I'm hoping this is the start of a good season. tdroma98, cnosil, cksurfdude and 10 others 6 1
