How do you record your swing?

Recommended Posts

It is more and more common for golfers to have their phones or other devices setup to record their swings. The options to do so are nearly endless, so what do you use? Let's see your setup and tell us why you ended up with this?

I was looking at the ones I see marketed specifically for recording golf swings, but a lot of it looks like junk Instagram ad products. I was using this short like 6" tripod that's meant for phones but it is now used for the camera in my son's room so we can keep an eye on him while he's sleeping haha

I'll post some photos when it's daylight and kids are up and at it.

I have a tripod and a gimbal.  Have looked at the attachment for the alignment stick. Have refused to pay for the irange sport, although it has been tempting

I use a tripod and my wife records when I ask her.  I was on the Titleist site and found out the distance that was optimal and the angle (down the line and face-on) to record.  It does make somewhat of the difference on those things I mentioned.

I use GolfFix to record and analyze my swing. I just got a Uneekor EML, so I may hook up some cameras and use refine while it's still free.

Every once in a blue moon, if I have a friend on the driving range with me, I’ll have them record it with my phone. But do I use the Trackman-type devices? No, because it’s the driving range and those balls are just chewed up. Trying to get an accurate measurement with a range ball is kind of like extinguishing a house fire with a squirt gun: noble effort, but not doing much.

This got me thinking more about what products I currently have that could be utilized.  I have my tripod that can become a monopod and just found a large 8in spike I can get for the bottom and create my own iRange.

I use GolfShot to track metrics in my swing, but haven’t filmed my sing in a while.

I could play golf every day and learn something new each time.

Used my cellphone and asked my wife to record my swing for the Newton Shaft testing call with Aki.

Not the best or most repeatable recording process, but it was quick for a tight deadline.

On the rare occasion that I record my swing; only do it when sending to instructors,  just used my digital camera and a tripod.  It is kind of a pain to carry.  I have also just balanced my phone on the bag.    I’d get something for my phone but don’t feel the use justifies the cost.

As a visually impaired golfer   it's very hard to record your swing without the  help  of a friend  or a coach  or professional  coach so when it is recorded  its  done by video/ phone    so we can sit down together  and look at it on a tv screen  and work out  where we need to improve  and adjust  certain parts of my swing   i  have added a video of me hitting a five iron  earlier  in the summer for people   to see how  a visually impaired golfer  hits a ball  with help from a guide / coach

Yes - I record my swing at the majority of the sessions, both from a down the line of hands (behind) and in front to get a good lens on movement in the swing.
I use my iPhone and an app call OnForm which is linked to my coach so I can send him swings and it has a chat function as well as ability to record voiceover for feedback as well.

I invested in a small ‘well known’ lightweight tripod which means takes less than 60 secs too get it up and running…

That's why I have been eyeballing something like this that's under $12 and fits on an alignment stick

Record? Not really, nope.  I did record it a couple times years ago, but then quickly realized I did not know what I was I was looking for or which corrections I needed to make for the results I wanted with a particular shot.  Also, since my swing has changed the better I played, it would be futile for me to record it and try diagnosis.  Instead, I watch the numbers on the sim and the ball flight on the range and adjust accordingly.  May not be the best approach, but it has been working enough to help me enjoy the game.

I was a total hack when I first started playing golf. Early swings were a chaotic mess. The ball often went flying in unexpected directions, and I was plagued by issues like an overly bent arm and incorrect swing angles. My friend sent me a tripod call precisionmaster tripod and I was skeptical at first, but I figured it couldn't hurt to try.  I started to notice patterns in my form gradually by using the mirror to analyze my swing.

It's been a game-changer. Now I can hit the ball straight down the middle and I'm breaking 90 on a regular basis. It's like having a personal golf pro in my backyard.

My wife and I practicing indoors. Hahaha, she is also a rookie at that time.DSC02142.JPG.b7f515e216bcec4ce7cda9485e67c71b.JPG

I don’t record my swing. It could look like Jim Furyk, Arnold Palmer, or Ernie Els. I’m afraid that if I looked I would try to make a change and mess myself all up. I’m playing well so I’m leaving it alone.

However I do have a phone mount on my Motocaddy that I use. Primarily for any Forum related videos like unboxing or testing. I just position the Motocaddy where I need it and rotate the phone.

Amazon. I just typed in phone mount for alignment stick on Google and there are a handful but Amazon seems to have the cheapest. FlightScope sells one as well.

I've picked up 2 tripods from Amazon over the past couple of years that I can use when necessary. I put one down the line and one face-on. They need to be around hand-height and far enough away to see your entire swing and the club itself. Each one came with a bluetooth shutter button that allows me to put them in my pocket and hit the button right before going through my setup routine. That helps a lot.

I haven't done this in a long time, but now that I'm doing some online work, I'm going to be doing this more going forward. I have my current cell phone, plus my previous phone that works just fine for video recording. I also have my tablet that I can use for any of the training apps while I work on stuff.

I feel the same way.  Knowing myself, I would start tinkering too much, mess up my game, start over analysing, then get paralisys from analaysis and start the winter workout way too early or just go fishing!
