Brooke Henderson Wins Her First Major Championship!

In what was probably the most exciting finish of the LPGA season thus far, eighteen year old Brooke Henderson has won the 2016 KMPG Women's PGA Championship. She did it by defeating Lydia Ko, the number one player in the world, on the first playoff hole.

It was really fun to watch on the back nine Sunday, lots of ladies in contention, it was nice to see someone give Lydia some pretty good competition, it looked early as the Lydia would run away with it. I would have liked to see Gerina win, but she is playing well so it doesn't seem like it will be too long before she wins. Exciting finish.

That approach in the playoff was absolute clutch

Lydia should have won, but missed a very short uphill putt on 17 in regulation that would have given her a one shot lead.  That said, Brooke played very well all day!!  Congratulations to her.

 

We watched them play at Sahalee.  What a great tough course.  My one observation of the ladies playing this course is that the course demands that shots be worked on way or the other.  The ladies hit the ball so straight for the most part, and sometimes straight doesn't put you in the best spot for the next shot.  We were there in 2010 when Bernhardt Langer beat Freddie Couples in the U.S Senior Open, and they worked the ball a lot better.
