    Happy thread

Man, when was the last time the New England Patriots and Alabama Crimson Tide both lost on the same weekend? This is like the best weekend ever for me! And the bonus was the Miami Dolphins beating the Philadelphia Eagles on the same day. It must be a full moon or something.

... "Perspective" as Anton Ego ordered in Ratatouille. Your Silver Lining would be the main course for many of us. Back spasms the last 10 days and I am in PT for the next month and there is snow on the ground. I would be ecstatic shooting a 90 in sunny, warm Hawaii with a back that would let me hit a whopping slice into the ocean.

  3. Apparently these are going to get released to the public at some point. By some UN-named company. I know he has worked with Mike Taylor a bunch, but to me these do not look like Artisan clubs. That plus the "released to the public' statement give me the impression these are not Artisan. I could be wrong though.

  4. That’s all you traded away!?! I’d list the players I traded away but nobody has time to read through them all! I’ll just give everybody the highlights. Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, Deshaun Watson, Dalvin Cook, Chris Carson, MG3, Adam Theilen, OBJ, Cooper Kupp, George Kittle, and Evan Engram twice just to name a few! Shot much better today. Made sure to post up onto the left leg at impact, and quit hitting all those fat shots. Got a few long bomb drives too

  9. ShotScope. I wasn't going to switch from GAME Golf Live for one more year, but at $119 the "PinCollect" feature and the integrated GPS distances made it a no brainer. Looks like the analytics and web interface is better than GAME Golf as well. My only concern is the size as I have pretty small wrists, but I'll learn to deal with it, I'm sure. I'm now having to make promises to myself that I'm about done buying stuff because I want to put more money into lessons before next season. I will be getting new golf shoes this month as well (likely the Adidas Tour360 XTs), but I really hope to be done until spring when I can try out a few different hybrids. Currently eyeing the Titleist 818 H1 23 degree with the Tensei White shaft. Really enjoy that profile in the 3 wood and it's similar to the C-Taper Lites in my iron (tip stiff, butt soft).

  12. These days I'll walk off the course for one of three reasons: Lightning. And I'll run off the course. Darkness. I don't have good depth perception as it is, so if I start hitting two inches behind the ball, I'll walk in. Impending doom. My wife is really good about letting me play, but if it's slow going and I'm going to make us late for something, I'll quit early. This might happen once or twice a year at most. I quit after nine in a junior tournament once in high school, and I was so upset with myself on the drive home for pulling such a punk move that I never did it again. I'd rather finish DFL than WD.

Should have stayed our asses home! 90 (ESC 88) 6/14 FiR 3/18 GiR 33 Putts The 20+ MPH gusts didn't help us, but I don't think I would've hit any more fairways or greens if they were 0 MPH. Not sure what happened to Flash, but I'm about to change the "F" to a "TR" on the sole of the driver to better-represent my tee game at the moment.

  14. I just picked up a set of MacGregor Muirfields at Goodwill today, not because I think they'll make me any better, but because it'll be something fun to fool around with once in a while and do something different. I played a really fun par 3 course (The Schoolhouse Nine in Sperryville, VA) with a half-set recently and had a blast. This is a similar idea, just doing something different to introduce a new challenge every once in a while if I'm playing a course I'm tired of. Unless my handicap starts getting too low, all of my practice and my "real" rounds will be played with my usual gamers. I'll let you know if my handicap is too low.

90 (ESC 89) 45/45, 36% FIR, 28% GIR and 33 putts. The silver lining is definitely the Hawaii weather in December, but I’m disappointed with this round.

  18. Time for me to weigh in here as I've now played four rounds with ARCOSS after four months or so with Shot Scope. I will preface to saying that I like both systems. Neither the watch nor the phone in the pocket present an issue for me although it's a pain to remember to charge the watch and the watch seems to take a bit longer to get up and running prior to the start of the round. I have to say that I wonder about ARCOSS accuracy at times - not in the GPS yardages but the recorded ones. The last hole that I played the other day was a good example. It gave me 147 middle, 170 back and I shot the pin at 154 with my bushnell - I'm confident that all of those yardages were accurate. My shot ended up just past pin high, 15 feet left of the hole, on the green. There's no way the ball didn't travel in excess of 154 (in fact the ball mark was just past the pin about 5 feet left) but I was credited with 141 yards on the shot. I'm wondering if it didn't pick up my shot as my walking or putting the club back in the bag. I think this has happened a few times and it skews yardages with so few rounds. I also end up on the wrong screen occasionally - no big deal just an observation. My only real complaint about Shot Scope is that I sometimes forget to click the watch at the pin. I don't mind editing shots post round as I like to review my round at some point anyway and that process never takes more than 15 minutes. I wonder if the editing feature on the phone doesn't lead to undo delays or more than likely isn't a bit of an annoyance to my playing partners. They've yet to complain and I've yet to be in a group that is holding people up - I'm just wondering though. Given that I own the ShotScope with no additional fees and would have to pay an annual subscription for ARCOSS I think that my choice will be for the ShotScope. Either one of these systems is a great upgrade over keeping track of fairways, greens hit, up and downs and number of putts which was for the longest time the best method that we had.

Cobra Forged Tec irons look awesome, not really looking to replacing my Srixon 565's, but Cobra has really stepped it up these past few years. Into the wind able to keep ball low, with the wind clubs got ball up and ride the wind. The more I play these clubs the better I like them. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  25. My numbers are very similar to @SteddyGolfexcept I'm hitting the G410 Plus, CB Alta 65 shaft. My swing is quite compact... Tony Finau-esque. Swing tempo and transition is on the fast side (something I'm always trying to manage). Now, if only my handicap matched those two guys, I'd be thrilled .

  27. My driver Swing Speed is in the mid 90s and ball speed is about 136. Total distance on average is 245 total. I use either a Ping G400 or a Taylor Made M4. The shaft is regular in both drivers. My irons are Mizuno MP5 with AMT Black Shafts or Mizuno JPX 919 Tours with Project X Graphite Shafts (S). I finished the summer at a +.05 handicap. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  28. I posted a lengthy update a month or so ago. Readers Digest Version: For me I certainly have seen on course improvement and increased distance. I stopped doing protocols in the summer (just too hot and too busy). Since then I’ve seen a decrease i distance but I’m still faster and longer than I do as when I started maintaining where I was at the end of the level 1 protocols so 5 mph faster and 10-15 yards longer with driver, half a club with approach shots. I’m way more consistent with my ball striking. I look like a former good golfer when you play with me now. I played with a guy whom I hadn’t played with in 5 years on Monday. After 10 or 11 holes he said, “I thought you hadn’t been playing much.” (That was true, it was my first 18 in November). “You look like the same old Rev to me. Fairways and greens.” Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  29. I'm glad you said that about what tour players would consider too high. I have a buddy that played on the old Nationwide tour and he told me that you can never hit the ball too high, as long as distance is not compromised.

  30. It would most likely take way too much. Good apps are extremely expensive to design and it has to be something that will either provide value or measurable return for MGS. There are countless other apps out there that already do what you describe in some fashion. What's in it for MGS to build this app? The data they get couldn't really be used in any of their research or studies since it's not validated.

  32. Odd that the factory is out of the 400’s. I know a few guys that preferred their 400 over the 410. The 400 LST is a 440 I think, and I wonder if the 410 LST is a 460? I don’t think the 400 LST will be going out of style for a long time... it’s just one of those clubs they got right the first time...

  38. 1. Desire to develop this type of application. 2. Belief that you could build an app that provides capabilities not already provided in the market. 3. Development team to build and maintain the application. Regarding the features that you identified, there are apps that already do this type of tracking although not with the exact interface that you mention. 18Birdies is one that I can think of off the top of my head. For me, the way you describe the app is a non starter. I don't want to have to select anything on a screen during a round. I have tried it with a couple of apps and it distracts me from my round, is annoying to pull my phone from my pocket for every shot, and takes away from the social aspect of the game since I am constantly looking at my phone.

  39. To your question on ball movement. First in the Testing I had to overcome the 4’ difference in Lie Angle which provided a challenge in just hitting the ball. It drive me nuts that a big mistake was made but the opposite is true. Moving Lie Angle was correct. Overcoming that problem ball fight is getting better all the time with decent ball strikes in club face is improving. I was never a big mover of the ball little draw occasionally and slight fade predominant flight. The G410 for me are dead a$$ straight, 5 thru 7 slight fade and 8 thru PW baby draw. Hitting low ball stingers easy to do, big fades-draws on demand not easy for me to do with these clubs. They like to go straight. I didn’t realize we had Steven Spielberg as a Tester[emoji16] That was freaking awesome. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  40. How about an update from all the testers on how their increased swing speeds have translated into performance on the course? Are we seeing distance gains with no loss in accuracy? More so off the tee, irons, or both? Is it difficult to "maintain the gain"?

  42. Same is true for this medium-handicapper. I've not tried ShotScope. There won't be any surprises if I did. I know my game and my limitations, and ShotScope would just confirm it. I am a 9 handicap, but only because I have been practicing my short game. If I spent less time practicing it, my handicap would be about a 14. I can reasonably play to a 14, but it's extremely difficult for me to play to a 9. Here's why... I am not a great ball striker. More likely than not, I will mess up one of two or three shots on a hole. I can mess up a drive, or if I hit a good drive, I'll thin/chunk my second shot. I know my distances for each club, but I mishit enough that it doesn't really matter that I know them. Couple that with not reaching some par 5's in 3 shots or par 4's in two shots, and I'm scrambling... it's what I do. What really surprises me is when I play a hole exactly like I think I should play it.

    2 points
  44. YEAH! Thanks to @GolfSub70 and especially their fearless leader Jason. I have to wait until the thumb heals but I can't wait to hit this one. I asked that they not put a grip on because of my obsession with Pure grips, so they sent me a hat instead. As well as some tees and a nice personal note. And I was very happy to see that I could get an Even Flow Blue shaft for a $20 upgrade.

  45. ... Bens, this has always been a pet peeve of mine. Some like to call MB's a training aid, which they most assuredly are not. A training aid helps you do something different than you are currently doing. Whippy Tempo aids train you to change your tempo. Tour Striker trains you to change your shaft angle and hit the ball with a more forward shaft lean. Hitting a ball with a MB, using the same swing you use to hit your CB is changing nothing, other than your mental approach or focus. If you need the smaller MB head to focus more, then here might be some benefit for you but it is a placebo effect because you can use the same focus with your current iron. I think most use it as an excuse to hit or play MB's when no excuse is necessary. If you want play MB's then play MB's. I have said on WRX that it is mentally weak to rely on a smaller head to make better swings and better contact and it was not received well by the MB zealots. ... The best ball strikers on the planet that can kick our a$$e$ and play on the LPGA use anything from Players Irons to SGI's to Hybrids and they practice with what they play, because they want to know exactly how their irons perform under all circumstances. You wanna fine tune your swing? Try hitting fades and draws, high and low as well as 1/2 and 3/4 shots on the range. That will make you a much better ball striker and improve your scores more than practicing with a MB that you will never use when playing.
    2 points
  46. Here’s another full circle one for me. There’s really no evidence that the old school thought that playing blades will help your iron play - if it were true every man, woman and child on tour would play blades and they don’t. Having written that we all have different swing characteristics and eyes. My swing characteristics may be such that even though I’m a fairly accomplished player i do better with a thicker sole - someone who is not as good a player might have a swing that does better with a gamier iron. Additionally there is the human factor that could cause me to perform better with the club that looks more appealing to my eye. Use what you like and be happy with it and if your friend asks what he should use or wants to copy cat you, tell him to get fit first. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
