    COVID-19

I hear ya bro; we are getting crushed and no PPE. Browned out a bunch of companies to add extra ambos too. I've been reassigned several times so far, and now work EMS to help. Silver lining is I have a job and income when so many do not. Otherwise its just awful. Good luck and stay safe.

  2. @Sluggo42 I built this last fall in my garage so I had somewhere to hit in the winter. The mat is a country club elite I got off line at rain or shine golf. The frame is a 10x10x8 PVC I bought at Lowe’s and put together myself. Also bought the green turf and carpet padding from Lowe’s just so the balls had somewhere to land softly and not go flying. From the netting, I just searched a golf netting company out of Florida and they sent it in two days. I think all together I spent about 500 putting it all together. Shortly after I put this all together, I bought a Skytrak simulator to go with it and I use my phone and Apple TV to screen mirror it up onto the TV in the second picture. All this saved me this past winter, kept me swinging all winter long!

    COVID-19

We had a huge change at the beginning of the year at what apparatus went to what calls because our com center began playing BS games. We currently only get engines on certain calls shootings, stabbings, cardiac arrest, overdoses, respiratory arrest, or if we request them. All the ambulances had the cabs sealed with plastic and duct tape from the mods and we have what feels like a new SOP every few days. Our fire chief hasn't been much help so are far marshals went around him to the mayor of our city and the marshals have been doing a ton of work as out. It's nice having a bunch of medics in the fire Marshal office who are willing to do what it takes to help us out and make sure we get equipment that we need. We only had a break in call volume for about a week and a 1/2. Each truck was running maybe 3 to 4 calls per ambulance now we are we're backup to nearly 10 calls per ambulance today which was a 10 hour shift. The night shifts haven't been much better running about one call every hour or so over 14 hours. Heck I've been around many who tested positive with work and I am the worst at being careful outside of work. I wash my hands but nothing else I wear a mask at work but I'm not doing it when I'm off. Unfortunately the n95 is not 100% effective the size the mask filters isn't always the size of the droplets. It is better than nothing but they are finite.

    How'd you play?

Got out today and walked 18 at my club. They pulled the flags and put cut down pool noodles in the cups. Was a bit odd just firing at the center of every green, but it worked. Shot an unofficial-3 68 thanks to and eagle on 4 and a birdie on 5 to go with 16 pars. First round with the broomstick and could not have rolled it better. Looking forward to a good season if we can get back to normal golf. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    COVID-19

I had freaked out at the lack of paper towels at the grocery store a few weeks back and then ordered the industrial size paper towels from Costco. I now have 2 boxes that way a total of 48 pounds. Whoops.

I'm not at the point where I won't go to the grocery store...yet. I do try and limit it, though. I have been to the gas station and the grocery store once each since the shelter at home order. I'm good for a bit. I even have 9 rolls of TP.

  8. I'm an estimator for a mechanical contractor so I'm basically doing the same things I would do everyday (work wise), except I have a much shorter commute, don't waste any gas, and work from a much smaller computer monitor. The kids think it's great to have dad home and conference calls are more of a challenge, but at least I can take a break every now and then and practice my chipping and pitching strokes...without a ball of course. I had been working on bouncing the ball on my wedge to see how many times I could do it in a row, but that was inflaming my elbow. Great to hear & see what you all have been doing to stay sane during this time. I told the wife that there's gonna be a lot of babies born 9 months from now, and unfortunately I'm sure there will be a lot of divorces as well.

The one that darn near got me banned there was one night I posted a picture of my Mini Staff Titleist bag with my Muirfields in it and right there big as a boxcar was my MGS Bag Tag Adam sent me. Trust me that was a genuine brain fart

  11. Not sure how much of a hookup you got from Jones, but Vessel is sold on neimanmarcus.com and I got like 30% off using a coupon they were running. They have one that they send out just for signing up for their emails, it's not quite 30% but it helps! The bag is almost perfect, just wish the small side pocket wasn't so useless. Whatever I throw in it just ends up lost in the bottom. Thinking about having my friend make me an organizational pouch. He makes tactical gear so it's right up his alley.

    COVID-19

My wife was sent home from work, one of her team members tested positive. Her last interaction with the sick employee was 3/20 and fortunately for us, my wife remains asymptomatic. She has not been tested so we’re following county health advice at this time. We are living with the idea of not if but when. Good news with my job is that I am away from home 24 hours at a time.

  13. I ordered a hitting mat the other day and it came in the mail today. It's a Callaway 8x16 that I thought would be good enough to get in the backyard and work on some short chips. I set up an old plant container and proceeded to try to get one in. I didn't sink one, but it did give me the opportunity to work on ball position, ball flight, and just making better strikes. COVID-19

Bingo. That's all I was getting at with that post. Also, that was in response to a post about the possibility of the CDC recommending masks to prevent the spread from asymptomatic carriers which goes beyond someone touching their face. Obviously, anything would be better than nothing, but how effective a bandana or something of that nature (as others have suggested) would be is questionable compared to a proper mouth and nose covering which has been sterilized. At the end of the day we'll all (hopefully) do the best we can to prevent the spread so we can return to some type of normalcy. I've heard some in the media refer specifically to medical grade masks in regard to that possible CDC recommendation, but that solution is improbable until supply catches up with demand. For the public, that will likely be a very long time as PPE will (and rightfully should) be sent to those who are working on the frontline ASAP. Anyway, all that to simply say the original post of discussion was simply meant to direct attention to all the hoarders and panic buyers who have made things difficult for those of us with cooler heads - and even worse for those who simply don't have the ability to go out and navigate crowded supermarkets and supply stores.

Well, we had a high of 59º with some sun and a few scattered showers... oh yeah, and a small tornado!! In Washington State!!! Very rare! This was followed up by a 6.5 earthquake in central Idaho that was felt in Washington and Montana. Coronavirus, tornado, earthquake... what's next? Dogs and cats living together?

  20. Putting the Jones next to my Ogio, the Ogio has a much better fabric, seems like it would be more durable. The Jones fabric was light, had a wider “weave”, and seemed like it would not hold up long-run. Definitely mixed messages, but I did tell them I’m on forums and folks had seen the defective bag and were shocked that they didn’t respond better. Got that message from the Manager once I shared that with them... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

    How'd you play?

Our course opened today and our foursome was the first group out - that's become a tradition. Forecast was light winds, sunny and mid to high 40's. Actual weather: strong winds off the lake, no sun and 42*. Since it was cart path only, I decided to walk at least the front 9. Drove the cart to #1 from our house with the push cart on the back. The other three guys decided to use their carts. Played really awful - I decided to stop keeping score - it might have been after I drove 3 balls in the water on #1. .I figure I ended up somewhere between 90 and 100. However, it didn't matter I was out of the house, into fresh air and able to trash talk with my buds. Edit: FYI there were no pins so we had to guess where the hole was - that didn't help scoring. The grounds crew inverted the cups so the ball couldn't go in but you couldn't see the hole until you were on the green. .

    GPS vs Rangfinders

I think they both have their places. Having recently tested the SkyCaddie, I've been using GPS more than my Bushnell rangefinder. I like the front, middle, back green readings of a GPS, but sometimes want to know a bit more info on some of the trickier greens or yardage to a particular point on the fairway. If I only could choose one, it would probably be the GPS, simply because of the versatility. One drawback to a rangefinder that I have experienced is hidden landing zones (doglegs, etc).

  32. One thing I’ve been thinking about during this year’s TXG bracket, and subsequent “winner”, is it PROVES that all heads aren’t “maxed-out”. CT? Sure. But if ALL heads were maxed-out, how could Matt, or anyone, be seeing such ball speed differences between two heads on center hits? Cobra was dang straight, but couldn’t keep up ball speed-wise vs Mavrik. Others like the new Mizuno, same thing. Yep, what works for one isn’t necessarily going to work for another, but with such variances throughout this “fitting”, it’s obvious that some OEMs still have a ways to go to “max-out” their driver heads, distance and direction can be gained vs a prior year, and shafts, head weighting, and technology IN the heads all matter. Heads are not equal. ALL are NOT maxed-out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  34. I'm stuck using the foam balls right now for anything resembling a full shot. Unfortunately houses in my neighborhood are pretty close together and I don't want to hit them even with limited flight balls. I have been looking at nets, but SWMBO has really put the cap on spending for anything that's not a necessity. Had plans and clearance to buy a new bag, but that's on hold now. I'll still use real balls for short chipping practice. I figure we'll all have better short games before too long. Sent from my SM-N975U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

    MAJOR rescheduling

As much as I love this option, I fear FedEx would never allow it given how much $$ they dump into the pot. Maybe pushing back the playoffs could be a decent middle ground??? The point is definitely taken and I can assure you we’re not advocating for risking lives. We’re also not here to actually solve and implement a solution. It’s just a fun discussion to have while we’re all cooped up inside. Start with the basic assumption that it’s safe to play and work from there.

  37. Haha well before getting the net I always hit chips and pitches in the backyard and shed chase down the ball and bring it back to the me. She can't understand what has happened to our game. I wasted $25 on this shag bag because I didn't know she was a golf ball retriever

  38. Courses are still open here, but no more than 2 people can play in a flight and they put pool noodles in the holes. Still worth it though. I tried to order some home golf practice things, but it all sold out! So I’ll head to the hardware store and build my own putting area and hitting net. anybody use the current situation to convince themselves to buy a launch monitor?

  39. Mavrik had huge ball speeds but I'd be scared to game a driver with 1800 spin on average. Some of the shots they showed were low, mega-bullets. Granted, he was carrying them 300+ I still wonder if they're gonna give him another degree of loft before it goes in his bag for the season

  40. You know you brought up the putter thing. I do not know if I told this or not but basically I "inherited" 20 putters one of which was mine anyhow. Frankly this golf bud of mine is dying and he wanted me to have his putter collection. All of those putters have Super Stroke grips and are modern MOI types. I had been gaming one of 3 Bobby Grace V- Foil series and had practiced some with a Crazy and a Craze E. With any of the Grace ones I can putt decent. And Frankly I think the Grace putters are sexy. I do make it a point to practice with a Bulls Eye or Ironmaster style for feel etc. 3 weeks ago I putted lights out with the Bulls Eye in the Dog Fight. Yesterday I was doing my practice routine and one of my Dog Fight partners was out there. I had the Bulls Eye canning putts on the practice green. He asked "why in the hell would I put anything else in the bag?" He is old school like you and I are. He said you told me you are a feel and instinct player and play those blade Macs off of feel and instinct. The light bulb went off in my head here I was canning putts with a bare balls no thrills no gimmicks antique putter with a basic Ping Man grip. We ended up playing a match yesterday afternoon and I had the Bulls Eye in the bag. Yep the feel and instinct instantly came back. What is funny is back in my younger days I never cared for a Bulls Eye putter. I was either a Ironmaster man or Anser man. My most famous putter I guess was a Ping Zing 2 I carried over 20 years and still have. Funny thing is I remember is the greatest putter I ever saw was this old hustler named Charlie ( who is a story within his self) who could putt on any green with a flange Bulls Eye. So I guess i am going to try it for a while and truthfully it really feels good and relaxes me

  41. At my course the leagues are still going but not as strong as normal. Since I was semi retired ( retired as of today) I have been out most mornings fairly early and observing. And I will say the following with all due respect. Most of the guys in the leagues are older than I am and in the more susceptible age group and have underlying health issues so they are being cautious. And LOL before anyone asks just because I am retired does not mean I am joining a league. I do not desire to play with those grumpy whining old farts. I basically do my own thing sitting on the patio watching the sun come up over #9 and #10 with my cup of coffee and cigar firmly in hand. Then I putt and chip some loosen up with my orange whip thingy and then hit balls on the range. I have my own groups I play in

  46. We are self-isolated for at least 30 days. Just got back from New Zealand (our winter/their summer) on Sunday, where we had self isolated the last 10 days after a bike tour on the South Island. That adventure required four flight legs. Then we flew a non-stop from Auckland to Vancouver and drove home. We don't want to be a risk to our friends and neighbors, so are staying at the house. Our club's course is closed. So I grabbed the shag bag and a couple clubs and headed for the yard. Wife asked "Where are you going?" I replied, "I'm going to practice chipping.". Wife, "No you're not. I've seen you chip." That's so cold.

    GPS vs Rangfinders

... Slightly off topic but when in Rome. The two biggest leaps in my golf game were learning to flight my wedges, taking more 3/4 and 1/2 shots, giving me much more control than launching high and bringing more variables into play. The 2nd biggest leap came when I started taking more club anytime I was in-between clubs. If the thought ever came into my head "this should be a 6 or 7 iron" I started going with more club. This came from the knowledge that when most pro's don't hit their distance, they miss long 50% and short 50% while Am's hit short 99% of the time. Obviously there are instances when you don't want to be long, but in most situations if golfers always took more club, their GIR's would increase. For high index players I would suggest playing a round and take one more club for every single shot and don't hold back but take the risk of being long. It will most likely be an eye opener. Better players I suggest using the club they think is accurate for their yardage but if ever between clubs or even thinking 7 should be enough, take one club more.
