  2. Can someone tell me why I can't stop watching course flyovers on the three courses? I know it's not until June, but I can't stop myself. I need therapy. Wait no, I need to go play some golf! Cheaper than a therapist.

Interesting couple of weeks. While painting my wife's office I experienced some starry flashes in my left eye. Oh well, just stood up too quick...no big deal. Next day I had a "floater" that was both annoying and concerning as I'd never had one before. Spent a few days with it and trying to play with it (PITA) and it did not go away. Checked about them in the interwebz... bad Idea. "Normally they go away... BUTTTT... could be a sign of a detached retina. Set-up an appt with an eye doc and they found no retina issues. They saw the floater and simple said it will, in all likelihood, go away. This past Saturday, my wife came down with the crud. We Covid tested today and it was negative... but she feels like junk... its her birthday week and just in time for Christmas. Yesterday, while playing my Monday group, I caught a one bounce, errant iron shot my one on my team, right on the inside of my left knee. That did not help an already shaky game. They say "stuff" comes in three's. League play tomorrow. Here's hoping for a sub 80 round

  4. In 2022, new wedges. SM9s; 52.08F and 56.10S. Also a Ping PLD Black Matte Milled Anser putter. Mainly FJ shirts, pants, shorts, outwear, and shoes ( 2 premiere and 2 traditions). Looking at new T300 irons when they are released in September. Have been discussing with my fitter the possibility of adding a five or seven wood to my bag and eliminating one of my hybrids. All depends if we can get the right shaft. He is responsible for every club in my bag. All contingent on my neurosurgeon getting back to where I can play painless again.

    How'd you play?

So I actually got out and played over the weekend - and yes those nifty heated gloves worked nicely! - and despite extra layers and messy conditions played reasonably well! It's been a while since my last round .. been practicing and continuing lessons, and then practicing some more .. and it seems to have paid off. Won't say I hit a lot of great golf shots, but I hit mostly playable shots at least and very few stinkers. Still have problems off the tee, though. But... Only lost one ball off the tee which I "shouldn't have" (quote-unquote) .. solid shot down the right side .. we saw it land just into the right rough .. but when we got up there, no ball to be found anywhere around... Temporary greens in place now so it was just a practice round and we didn't keep score. Chipping / pitching towards the flag was a total guessing game if the ground ahead was wet and soft, ie. no runout, or drier and firmer, ie. more than expected runout; and then putting (so called) was just kinda knock it towards the hole and watch it bounce around over the uneven ground - really makes you appreciate modern manicured greens! Anyway nice to be out there .. .. who knows when the weather here will allow another chance....

  9. I was very fortunate to have been chosen to test out the Nippon 850 Neo shafts for MGS. I really wanted to put something special together to do the testing with and I've always wanted to pick up a set of TourStage CB's. When TourStage was still alive, Nippon was a very strong partner in their premium stock shaft lineup. I can't imagine that there could be anything much cooler than premium Endo-forged blades + Nippon steel shafts. Behold, the TourStage X-Blade 705 Type S Getting 5-PW. Just closed out the bid.

I went in for a diabetes eye exam in September; all fine. I've had a couple of floaters for several years but they don't bother me. No cataracts. The doc has been hounding me for a regular eye exam ever since. My vision seems fine to me, but I haven't had an exam in 5 years... so I went last Thursday. I took in my old glasses from 5 years ago, and apparently my eyes have greatly improved. Wish other parts of me would improve!! The doc said my vision was 20/20 and I should pass the driver's license eye test without glasses. She gave me a new prescription (I could see better with that) so I ordered new sunglass lenses in my old frames for driving. I do need to buy a pair of cheaters for reading as my close-up vision has gotten a little worse. No way I'm getting bifocals!!

  12. Well this isn't a buy, it was actually a win. Some of you know, I won a set of special edition SteelFiber shafts in the Aerotec halloween contest. I decided I'd put them in the Mizuno Hot Metal HL i just bought earlier this fall that had the stock KBS shaft, I wasn't planning on keeping those much past next year so just went stock shaft. So these had to go somehwhere, so off they went our resident Top 100 Clubfitter @McGolf for him to install. If you aren't aware Jim has a very good youtube channel, and one of his features is a very fun and interesting What's In My Drawers Golf Talk that he does every Monday. He talks about the jobs he is workig on that week, then takes about 45 minutes of live chat. A lot of regulars just drop in to say hi and chat, but also questions about equipment and golf talk. Well, Jim showed my shafts on this weeks episode, and he does a much better job of showing them than the IG pics I put up. Here's the link to his show this week, my shafts come onat the 7:40 mark, but really I encourage you to make his channel one of your regular viewing habits. MCGolf-What's In My Drawers

  13. First lesson of the offseason today and not so unpredictable results. I've continued to make strides in my swing and my coach is impressed. That being said, I still fight the same things and today we worked a bit on cleaning up my path and face control. I frequently get too shallow on the downswing with a closed club face, which leads to an over draw/hook miss. I did a Speed Priming session on The Stack prior to actually hitting balls and was happy to see the following on the Trackman during my first few swings with the six iron (speed training paying off!): Speed comes at a slight cost, however, as for me to get to that level I make a very large shoulder turn with just a slight hint of a flying trail elbow (below left). He recommended I reign that in a bit for more control (below right) except when I need the gas, which did slow down my speed a bit overall. I think there is a happy medium to be had here as I could work to get a slight bit longer without overdoing it. The bulk of my swings were spent working on getting me more "rounded." I was getting very vertical in my swing which resulted in the club and arms exiting very high. He wants to see my right arm exit left quicker and more across my chest. The feel for me is that my right arm gets as low as it can go and the right thumb stays pointing up through the ball. I have homework to mimic this feeling with my right arm only whenever I can. Before (bottom left), after (bottom right), both full swings, club exiting lower and more across the chest on the right: The weather will be frigid the next week or so, but I'm going to do my best to get out and work on this at least a few times in the garage over the next week. Hopefully it gets back to normal temperatures soon so that my garage sessions will be more comfortable.

  20. I'm not surprised by the timing and the announcement. Why add drama and a distraction by making the announcement close to the tournament date? Augusta National really doesn't have a dog in this fight. If you qualify, you are in. Simple. That's why the decision of granting World Golf Ranking points to LIV events is an important decision. Without awarding points to LIV events, their golfers will continue to drop and eventually fall out of qualifying by ranking position.

Kinda like one of my buds and I were discussing on WRX earlier. Both of us being retired truckers we no longer have to truck in it. Both of us are lucky enough to be able to safely sit in our homes safe warm and dry this Christmas. I do hate it and pray for anyone having to travel this Christmas for whatever reason

  23. Otherwise known as lateral or medial epicondylitis. I had a bout with it in early August, and - after taking a couple of weeks off and then doing some of my own rehab based on watching numerous YouTube PT videos - was able to resume playing while wearing a forearm brace for extra support/protection. Everything went well while playing 2-3 times a week for about two months. However, in mid-October, I had played on a Tuesday and Wednesday, and was asked to compete in a Ryder Cup tournament on the weekend, which sounded like fun, so I entered. Everything went fine until Sunday, when - after warming up thoroughly - I stepped to the first tee, swung my driver, made contact with the ball, and BAM! The pain returned, much in the fashion of a guitar string snapping. I figure that although I felt as if my initial injury was completely healed, it probably was only about 90%, which allowed me to get away with playing 2-3 times a week. However, pushing it to 4 times, along with long, extensive warmups for the tournament, was just too much for my forearm tendons to take, and they snapped. And yes, I went to an Ortho both times, and they basically recommended rest, stretching, and wearing a wrist brace for a couple of weeks. Right now I am fortunate that it is not golf season here in central Ohio, and I can rest it even more, while continuing to do some of my self-discovered therapies (hand gripper device and a Theraband Flexbar). Hopefully, by the Spring I will be ready to once again play golf injury free. I just have to pace myself and not overdo it like the last time! What about you? Who here has experienced either tennis or golfer's elbow? How have you dealt with it, and what have you discovered helps you heal?

  25. Having Monte's videos is a plus. I thought I was doing things correctly, but I was wrong!! Actually not bad, but my swing issue is not enough rotation in the backswing. He said that at the first clinic and the last clinic, but I am better than I was in 2019. I improved my bunker play strictly from his UTB 2 video. This year when I was hitting my bunker shot if front of everyone else, Monte said "Do it like that"! easy peasy Chuck summed up Monte's clinics pretty well. As he says, it does vary from group to group depending on the group's skill level. Watching each person make a few swings and interacting with Monte on the first day is rather interesting. I was leery at first, maybe a little self-conscience but it's a different way to learn about the swing. I've been to 3 clinics; two in Seattle and one in Irvine, CA. The Seattle clinic had some pretty good players, and then there was my wife and I. It was held in August at a driving range; we used grass teeing area. There was no bunker and putting green was not the best. Monte brought in his own sand from Lowes and made an area to hit sand shots. He did this again last August. He doesn't spend a lot of time on putting/short game instruction. He will highlight each person's issue but there is no time to work on that at the clinic. The Irvine clinic was at a local course, but the hitting area was a covered driving range, so hitting off mats. We did have a nice green and bunker though. There were only 5 of us that stayed for the 3rd day on the course, so Monte "played" the front nine with 3 guys and the back nine with my wife and I. It's not a usual on-course lesson. He does make comments about our full swing that we worked on the past 2 days, but it's more about hitting shots from different positions on the course and it's not always from his ball. At the Seattle clinic last August there were only 3 of our group that stayed, so we played as a 4-some. We would have made all 18 holes but even with instruction and multiple shots, we still had to wait on groups in front of us. We only completed 15 holes before Monte and one guy had to leave. I could have stayed and finished, but I had a 4 hour drive home so I left too. So, I guess the clinic varies depending on the facilities and number of attendees. He likes to keep the group small, but if someone wants to come at the last minute, he will take the money!! It seems like I learn something every time I see him; wish I lived closer. Monte has a great sense of humor, but I can see where he can rub people the wrong way. When I signed up for the Seattle clinic this year, I told him Martha couldn't make it this time. He said "OK, but I'd rather have her."

  26. Oh as an aside should also have mentioned... Monte can, to some, come off as a bit let's say gruff but it's just him / his demeanor .. nothing meant by it. Just so you know! I'm in NY so have been to NJ clinics twice, but for '23 that location date is right after the MGS NC trip so not sure if I could schedule that .. so kinda toying with the idea of Seattle in early August ... if @Kenny B and Martha can make it..?

  27. I have always wanted to do a clinic type deal and I have been using Monte's NTC videos for the past 4 months with some success but I am sure that having up close time with him will really help. I buy into his methods and I am sure there are aspects I am not internalizing correctly. I am looking at Chicago or Detroit due to direct flights from Nashville and timing. The atlanta one is the closest but it simply will not work with my 2023 schedule.

  28. Hey so he does have some info on his website outlining the *general* clinic schedule and format, but of course it can vary depending on location and facilities, and the particular group and their needs. But in general... Saturday = usually 9a - 4 or 5p with a lunch break - starts out with one person in the group hitting and the others watching and trying to pick out what they think is the main underlying swing flaw .. the premise being that Monte looks for the "one thing" that he sees that's holding you back or needs to change or whatever - when that's done each person has their individual drill that you'll be working on at the range - after lunch usually short game; chipping, bunker play, putting and follows the same format .. he'll demonstrate then one person at a time goes while the rest of the group watches and comments Sunday = usually 9a - like 3p with a lunch break - after some warmup he puts one person at a time, while the rest of the group is hitting balls, on a pressure mat that displays your weight shift during the swing; then attaches a wrist sensor that shows wrist positions during the swing .. eg. for me he picked out the top of the backswing to focus on - after lunch often just free range time where he'll walk up and down the line answering questions; you're free to keep hitting or to watch and listen as he coaches someone else Monday = on-course play usually early if he can book it then done by around Noon-1pm - well worth it imho! Monte plays front 9 with one group then switches and plays back 9 with other group - typically each person tees off then you scramble from his drive (yes waaaaaay da f*** up there!!) - the goal being to focus on different methods of approach shots from different situations, and from different lies near to the green So overall it's a good mix of receiving instruction + beating balls. fyi... I've been to two .. so far .. and am contemplating another this coming season.

  29. Refreshing this topic @cksurfdude and @Kenny B as I am looking at going to one of Monte's clinics this coming year (2023). Just a few general questions like how long were the days (start time and end time) and what portion would you say your were hitting balls or "doing" vs watching/listening?

I’m sorry, but 39* F at tee-off time and 49* F at the finish does not qualify as “cold” or even “overly cool” in the group (or on the winter tour) that I play with. Unless the wind is 20+ MPH, we consider those conditions to be quite warm.

  35. As it should be! As Masters winners, they're qualified to play. Stripping them off that would be totally out of line. Same for anyone that qualifies for the Open or the US Open. Past champions have privileges. Those LIV players who do not qualify by way of past performance should still be able to qualify by the same standards for qualification of any hopeful participant.

    Shaft Rust

I was fumbling around and found a couple of articles around cleaning rust of steel shafts. Both recommend against any kind of abrasive medium as it will likely scratch the shaft finish. One technique involves vinegar and the other lemon juice. Both are fairly acidic. Just Goggle these two: How To Remove Rust From Golf Club Shafts (Step-by-Step Guide) (golfcartreport.com) How to Remove Rust Spots From Golf Shafts | Golfweek (usatoday.com) I'm sure there are several techniques. Good luck!

My ortho doc said I should take Amoxicillin before a dentist appt for the rest of my life; said it was cheap insurance. I did for a couple of years, but my dentist said that wasn't necessary. I called my ortho doc's office; found out that he had retired, but the nurse said that it wasn't a standard practice for the other ortho docs. I haven't taken it for four years; no issues.

  42. As an orthopedic physical therapist I treat this quite frequently. The treatment plan generally follows with minimal stretching and strengthening followed by some manual or tool assisted work to the surrounding area. Utilization of modalities like hot/cold laser, thermal stim application, and dry needling or acupuncture. The tennis elbow strap research has been updated and results show it isn’t as effective as previously thought. Hopefully all this helps
