Best advance of the past 25 years.

What in your opinion is the best equipment advancement in the past 25 years?

I'm going Pro VI although I would understand the strata (man I hated that ball.). I'm in the camp that believes that ball technology is at least half the reason for the increase of distance that allows an older slower swinging guy like me to continue to enjoy the game by shooting good scores.

Thoughts?

Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60  Aldila  R flex   - 42.25 inches

SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft

Ping G410 7, 9 wood  Alta 65 R flex

Srixon ZX5 MK II  5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex

India 52,56 (60 pending)  UST recoil 75's R flex

Evon roll ER 5 32 inches

It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD

Titleist gets the credit, but Nike was actually first to market with the rubber core golf ball. The golf world wasn't ready for Nike innovation back then, and that worked to Titleist's advantage. Even now the jury remains out on Nike. Give the new RZN a chance, it's going to change its share of open minds.

But yeah...the ball is probably the thing.

I stand corrected again. I thought top flite had the technology first. Which Nike was it?

Was actually the original Tour Accuracy ball. Here's a fantastic article that details the end of the wound golf ball.

http://www.worldgolf.com/products/niketour1.htm

It starts with the line: Nike says the wound ball is dead.

They were right, but I suspect they never figured it would be Titleist that benefitted most.

For the past 3 seasons Nike has been saying "Rubber was, RZN is". Given where the industry is right now, the next big breakthrough will be the result of a new material. I'm not saying it's RZN. I'm not even saying it's going to be the ball, but there will be something.

Lol

No I meant advancements in lawn mower technology, agronomy, irrigation, and chemicals. Since they can no longer eradicate pests by throwing down mercury they have learned to manage pests.

I think the advancements in turf grass management have done more for the game than advancement in equipment. Golfers still suck, but courses have become much better.

Lawn mower

I actually considered this one. Advances in agronomy make it possible for the local muni to have what used to be available only at a great club in regards to conditions. I still like the ball but I love what the lawn mower has done for the game.

I agree with the fitting concept.

Before you used to go to a big box store or your local club and pick the clubs that looked the best to you or you heard were good and buy them.

Those that were special went and got "fit" which was pretty much just length of club and a stab at shaft stiffness determined by swing speed.

But today you can analyse and optimise just about every aspect and measurable facet of the swing from drives to putting, and the club technology has followed with the introduction of adjustable weights, customisation options and the shaft tips.
