BostonSal
I not that long ago hit a Titleist T200 demo 7-iron at a practice facility-- and you know me-- I was there for the excellent lunch diner next door, not to practice-- but decided to hit a few of the demos while I was there. It was relaxing, not the "p" word. I absolutely loved that club. Even though it was standard lie and not a tiny smidge flat as In prefer, and even though it didn't have the requisite wrap-style grips for my gloveless hands, I choked down about 3/8" at most to compensate for the lie and swung away. Almost couldn't miss. Shots felt like money. Trajectory was great. Titleist hit the jackpot with that one. Great golf club. But the 9-iron is stronger than forty degrees in that set. Almost to super GI level. I would have to completely change the way that I like to configure my set, or else find somebody to make me a cart bag with sixteen full-length dividers plus a putter well. I'm almost glad that they frustrated me that way. I loved that club and may have spent more of my kids' inheritance on a set. Divorce court wouldn't be off the table either. I already bought clubs this year. But people misunderstand when we old grumps talk about strong lofts. The golf clubs are very hittable. The clubmakers know what they're doing. It's just hard to fit them into a set with a familiar, comfortable configuration. Syks7
Well, I found some demos -- at least in a few days. In advance of that I spent a bit of time in one of the bays at a Roger Dunn hitting ZX7's and JPX Forged, as far as I know the most similar Mizuno (they had no MP-20 MMC left). Same shaft too. Nippon modus 120 so it was a nice little test. I gotta say that, unless the 223's are light years better than the JPX Forged I think I may still end up preferring the ZX7s. Theoretically, the Forged should be more forgiving for me, but I just seem to hit the ZX7's better (more consistent, accurate, with better flight, and better distance). Go figure that I can hit a players club better than a player distance. Still really excited to try the 223's out though. And on the plus side, this is the first time that I've picked up the ZX7's that I was making good contact consistently. All that practice hasn't been for nothing. 18 minutes ago, BostonSal said: I not that long ago hit a Titleist T200 demo 7-iron at a practice facility-- Titleist hit the jackpot with that one. You have 2 options. 1) Find a shaft with the R9 adapter. 2) Buy a shaft and install an R9 adapter (https://www.golfworks.com/taylormade-r11-s-r11-and-r9-shaft-adaptor-sleeve/p/tm0016/). For option 1 it is just loosen the screw, pull the head off, put head on new shaft, and tighten screw. For option 2 you have to prep the shaft and epoxy on the adapter before you swap shafts. (The lone exception is if I can ever get my hands on the G425 Max driver I was fit for back in June. Apparently the shaft I need is golf’s version of Sasquatch. There are rumors it’s a thing, but nobody can find it.) 2022 is going to be about golf, not golf clubs for me. I know I have quality equipment, so now I really want to concentrate on getting my game back to where it should be. I agree 110%---- I am not really looking because I think I am set with my current signature and my poor old back thanks me too--- Still like to experiment some on the range which is good exercise for me--- Yesterday experimented for kicks and giggles with a Ping Zing2 BECU LW a friend of mine on WRX gave me. Also messed around with a persimmon Penna driver with a factory Penna Signature ( Aldila HM-40 graphite shaft) Also messed around with a Big Bertha Warbird sole Driver with a factory RCH-90 graphite in it. The Bertha is 8*. Also piddled around with a long old favorite Cleveland Designed By 8802 style putter. I usually use the Persimmon drivers to help my ballstriking with the Modern metals and due to my nerve issues have not hit persimmon and steel for a while. I also use a 8802 or ironmaster style putter to help in the same area. If I can hit that dime sized sweet spot then the Santa Fe is also a no brainer. But as far as front line playing I believe the bag is set pretty much for the coming year. Like I said me and my back are happy. Have been playing pain free the last month or so. I haven't played it in quite a while but it was a great club from the rough, from a divot, for getting the ball quickly over a tree, or for a nice vertical descent on a tough to hold green. Made monumental ball marks. It would be absolutely plausible to see it back in my bag with just a new grip. Now I'm going entirely from memory here, but off the top of my head, the only frequent MGS poster who routinely bags a 9-wood is the Rev. If I remember, he goes striaght from there to a six-iron, although his 6-iron, if I recall, is close to my 5-iron in loft. He's a Ping fairway wood guy as I recall, and the Ping 5-7-9 metal combo is from all accounts a nice, hittable set in recent models. Unlike Floridian Rev, I've got an entire winter to think about it, but as a senior, a configuration like that might be favorable for me as well. Anybody else in the gang looking at a 9-wood? I sometimes slip the V-Steel 9 wood in my bag. It is 24*--- right now with the current iron lofts in my signature set the 5 Iron is 23.5 * and it hit a little better trajectory with it. Now with my SOP of carrying only 12 clubs it leaves me room on either end. Some courses if there are some high carries I will slip the 9 wood in for a higher carry but I also have to take the wind into consideration here. On the bottom end if I play a course with fluffy greenside bunkers I will slip one of my higher bounce 60* wedges in usually a Ping Eye2 or a Hogan Sure Out. But I mostly stick around my home course so the 12 club set up in my signature is my norm BostonSal 1 Quote Driver ---- Callaway Big Bertha Alpha Speeder 565 R flex- 5W TM V-Steel Fubuki 60r--- 7W TM V-Steel UST Pro Force Gold 65R----- 9 W TM V Steel TM MAS stiff---- Irons 2015 TM TP CB Steel Fiber 95 R--- GW Callaway Mack Daddy 2 52* shaft unknown junk pile refugee. juspoole
A couple different things at the moment. My 4 iron T200 has really become a weapon and a go to off the tee, that I'm thinking about a U505 utility 3 iron. Currently have a TSI3 2 hybrid that I like, but I'm a bit straighter with an iron even though a hybrid is more consistent with contact. Second - wedges. Going back and forth if I should get fitted or buy the new Vokeys (sm9?) once they come out. Third - Golf Balls - going to buy the Bridgestone Tour B XS when they come out. Love both the Tour B and B XS, but the durability has been very bad on the 2020 version for me. Hoping they get this squared away. Grand Stranded
My bag is pretty solid right now, the driver, putter and iron spots are better than they’ve been in a long time and my hybrids and wedges have been behaving fairly well. I really shouldn’t be looking for anything, but I’ve come to the conclusion I’m always going to look to tweak something. I’m looking to try the 18* Cleveland Hy Wood. I’m so bad with FWs… my 5 wood is all over the lot, so I’d love to put something with a little more pop than my 3 hybrid in my bag, and the Hy Wood has me interested. I’ll wait until Callaway comes out with the new Rogue line in a couple weeks though. If they have another pure distance hybrid like the Rogue X line from ‘17, that’s how I’ll go. i should just take the 3 wood out of my bag, it’s only purpose seems to be to aggravate me, and it seems the ones I buy have the shelf life of a gallon of milk. I never learn or stop looking though, I’m sure I’ll be trying a few when the ‘22 versions come out. I really should leave well enough alone though. I’m playing pretty good golf right now, but the combination of the new releases, and a couple extra clubs to trade (see the extras in my sig) will make it hard to do. Current thought is building a set of the most super SGI Maltby irons. sirchunksalot, Londo, Kenny B and 1 other 4 Quote Follow my golf journey to break into the 80s Tester for the Titleist TSi Driver Spring 2020 MGS Tester for the Fujikura Motore X Shaft Updated 07/15/2022 Driver: Rogue St Max LS - Autoflex Fairway Woods: Rogue Max St 3HL and 7 Wood Irons: JPX 921 Hot Metal 5 to AW - Aerotech Steelfiber i95 Stiff parallel tip Wedges: Glide 4.0 54 and 58 Putter: PLD Custom Kushin

I buy found balls from on line sellers. What's the difference if I buy them or I find them while playing? When I get them, they have play wear and marks and logos. They haven't been refinished or refurbished in any way. When is a brand new ball not worth playing anymore? One round...two? If I find that ball while playing, is it somehow no good anymore? I suppose if I were the caliber of player that you and some others on here are, I might notice a difference, but even then, I don't have the disposable income to play $50.00 a dozen brand new balls. If I could afford to play pristine courses and pay $50.00+ greens fees all the time, I suppose I could afford those $50.00 balls..... but I still wouldn't see the sense in paying that much when I can get the same balls for half that and less, with a few marks and dirt stains that the brand new balls would have after three holes anyway. I'm not knocking you or anyone else that disagrees with me. If you can afford it, have at it. It's just not something I feel the need to spend that much money on. Lots of folks here are always on the lookout for a cheap bargain, myself included. I play twilite golf for $24 here in Phoenix with a Sr City Card while most courses are charging $100 - $350. "Found balls" can also be recycled balls too, there is just no way to know? The thing is there are just so many killer bargains for new golf balls it just doesn't make much sense to take the chance that your bad shot was the result of a defective used ball. Maxfli has the Tour and Tour X on sale for $104 for 4 dozen and MGS posted a code for 40% off a dozen of those same balls a week ago. Kirkland Signature balls are $12 a dozen in a 2 pack. And you can usually find cheap deals on premium balls from previous seasons as well. GaDawg, Londo, silver & black and 1 other 3 1 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... GaDawg
Golfers can play with many type golf balls. New, Used, Found, Recycled, Refurbished, etc. If you select some of these types, you very well could be hurting your golf game. Possibly losing 10 - 20 % on yardage, especially if they have been laying in a lake for a long period. I love a bargain as much as the next guy and you can find premium golf balls if you are selective. chisag 1 Quote Driver: TSI3 - 10*, Hzrdus Smoke 6.0 Stiff Driver: Stealth Plus - 10.5*, Oban Kiyoshi Purple O4Flex-65 Grams Purred 3 Wood: SIM - 15*, Graphite Design Tour AD DJ5 Stiff Hybrid: TS3 - 19*, Hzrdus Smoke 6.0 Stiff Irons: 5 - PW T150, with Nippon Zelos 7 Reg, 4 iron - U505 with Project X HZRDUS Black Stiff Wedges: Vokey SM 8 - 50*, 60* Standard Wedge Shafts Wedge: Milled Grind 3 MG3 56* S200 shaft Putter: Studio Select Newport 1.5 Putter: Phantom X 5.5 Ball: Pro V1x
