Lots of people just whack balls into a net aimlessly

Guilty, more often than I care to admit.

Had a rough 9 holes at my least favorite course in town last night, so I decided to hit the range tonight and work on my irons. Not much better. Trying to work on my out to in tendency but it’s tough.  Hit some decent ones that felt right but had more bad shots than the good. Might get in another 9 Thursday and then I got lessons lined up for Friday right before 18 so hoping for some good drills to help out. Just gotta remember progress isn’t linear!

Even when you’re using the net there needs to be a purpose to those swings / give it a try - it will transfer to the course.

Good luck

Hey I wonder what @Yellow Ball thinks about all that white powder getting on a clean "other" color jacket?

Other than a slight burn in my eyes it's no big deal. A little air time, a roll in the fairway and its gone. Of course I get a super clean when I go swimming.

Actually I'm really cheap- I go to the Dollar Tree store and get their generic foot powder spray for $1.25 a can- I'm pretty sure my clubs don't  mind (know the difference)

First time this season out on the range and on the grass - been on the mats for a couple weeks. As always, a transition. But irons came back very quickly.  Very happy that what I’ve been working on inside all winter is translating to hitting a real ball on real grass.

The driver is, as they say, another story. I have three things I’m working on - maintaining my tilt, tucking my trail elbow, and pulling thru w my lead hip. I get one out of three - pulling w my hip.  What I feel and what I do are two different things when it comes to a rehearsal swing and a real swing. The elbow flys, the shoulders flatten, ball sails to the right… frustrating day.

But to always take away a positive - the Stack work is paying off. - I’m averaging 4mph faster w driver than last year without effort.

Noticed that the starting point for my putting grip is moving a bit further and further down the shaft, just old habits coming back and somewhat feeling comfortable more hunched over the ball, but it leads to pulls to the left.

And it’s wild how practicing putts while simply standing straighter, hands higher up the shaft grip … and I’m putting the ball that much better. Significantly better.

Especially in the getting the ball to the hole part and not leaving it short. That extra inch or two higher up the shaft leads to a high pendulum stroke and the gets to hole or rolls just past it.

I swear, 9 times out of 10, it feels like it’s the little things/bad habits that we revert back to that can throw of your round/game.

Good morning “spy’s “

getting prepped for a best ball tournament this weekend, biggest practice today is finding ing the bottom of the swing, I do that by emulating a “punch shot”.

once I find that I go to full swing, done that the 30 minutes in the bunker, 30 minutes short chips, 30 minutes or so on the putting green!!

heading to physio now then go to the host course to check out their sand, and green speeds… looking forward to some meaningful shots coming up!!

committed to performance excellence

Went to the driving range, focused on the long end of the bag. Was using a tee that allows me to break a wooden tee in half and practice tee shots off the mat without that rubber tee interaction I'm not fond of.

Main goal was hitting the 917 f2 15° I bought yesterday. Teed one up, stretched and ripped one. Didn't even dry run just walked up and whacked a low fading shot about 185 with a range ball. Oo I like it.

Also hit my driver 4w and 5i to practice a nice smooth mid speed fairway finder swing. Gapping will be good, the 4w CAN go as far/further than the 3W if I swing top speed. Main difference is the 3w goes further on a smooth swing and rolls out more with a lower flight trajectory. The 4w with PX LZ 5.5 shaft really flights the ball high.

Finished by picking some 52° wedges off the mat to a flag about 35y away. Good feelings there closed face chipping was spot on, flew a couple pitch shots too far but all in a 5y circle.

It's hard to see but I had pretty tight marks from the ball. Was playing with shaping the ball and the 917 f2 is great for that. The Callaway XR 4w is a straight shooter.

Had a pretty good range session this afternoon! Working, again, on all the 12,437 technical swing minutiae 😝 haha but focusing on trying to repeat the feeling of a good pressure shift, good transition and good (Chuck Martin buzzword) arm structure.

Started out putting .. lagging (heads up to "feel" the distance) and 3-6 footers around the hole looking at the line...

.. then to the range: first some pitching & chipping to various distances; 2-3 PWs to a 90 yd target; some 6i short punch swings with feet together then half swings narrow stance then full swings regular stance; a few LWs; a few 5Ws; a few more 6i's etc.. always mixing it up.

Did work on one new thing .. kinda came out of the "Good Morning" thread (like who knew crazy golfers on this forum would wake up thinking about golf? 🤣) .. a low, running sorta punch or ¾ shot with the 5W to about a 150 yd target which I'm hoping I might be able to use on one of the Par 3s at my course .. well either that or learn to hit my 6i properly!

First time this year I’ve practiced wearing my rain jacket, not good going left right then straight ish 🤞🌧️ 1/5 start day for my 4 day tourney so will play in the rain. Not really keen getting wet for no good 😌 reason 😬

I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…

Not looking for advice. Was gonna hit the range and swim today but my cough would not allow it.  Worked on swing feels indoors instead today. 4i. Got the planemate out to help feel my finishing form. I am getting a little to long in the backswing and not as deep as my coach want with my hands but that can be remedied in many ways. Still working on proper pressure shifts and getting there. Likely gonna take the whole year to fully ingrain. Sticking to a plan through the season and off-season and hoping technique will hold and become more natural feeling.

Took out the new Srixon ZX MKII Irons and ZX5 Driver today. Really just focused on getting a feel for them and trying to distance them vs my others.

Definitely liking the feel of them. Just need to work on my own swing as I started getting really towards the heel at the end of my session.

The ZX5 driver is dangerously lightweight vs my M4. And boy was it long! I think I’m going to enjoy it a lot this summer. Especially for $190🤣

About 15 range buckets into my season and making some good progress, building off of my winter work indoors. It's been incredibly windy the last few times out, so I just usually try to hit straight into or with the wind so that I can get a feel for shot shape (or, in my case, hoping to see less shape). Distance is comical because our range balls just spin so much they balloon and go no where.

I've really been focusing on setup. Feeling more hinge in my hips at setup has really helped me make a better turn with less sway. I also liked this feel and it's helped my pivot tremendously https://golf.com/instruction/improve-backswing-golf-sean-hogan/

So far a bunch of really good range sessions. Can't wait for the actual good weather to get here and the season to start.

Practicing with my rain jacket and not good, not sure what I’m going to do if it’s raining 🌧️ during my tourney, might be in trouble playing lousy golf ⛳️ and not wear my jacket 😬

I’m a hacker who loves nothing more than to change how I play, be that grips shafts and heads its all fair game lol…

Anyone that has read any of my how do you play or my journey thread knows that I have been struggling with putting lately.   I hadn't used my exPutt for a while so I broke it out to see what was going on.  Both face and distance were horrible which is what I experience on course.  Went through all my various putters and was able to get some to improve distance and some to improve face control.  Adjusted grip pressure and got a little better.  Focused on a spot on that mat and got a little better.    Still a ways to go;  definitely need more practice.

Such a useful gadget. Fiddling on the ExPutt is why I'm now more bent over in my putter stance. Bending over more was the only way my path would neutralize, else I swung the putter way too in-to-out to be consistent. I would have never been able to diagnose that without the ExPutt.
