How long have you been playing golf? I’ve been playing golf since I was around 10. My grandfather would take me a 9-hole course that hand sand greens and everything was cut one height. It was $4 to play and most of the time that was on a honor system.

What’s your handicap or normal score? I got down to a 7 handicap, I’ve grown my family over past few years so my golf has taken a backseat to my priority and I currently have an 11 handicap.

What do you love about golf? The competition against myself and knowing I can always do something better.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I think I originally got on for the testing (never been chosen), but I am using it now as a social platform. I don’t do facebook and/or Instagram and right now I’m stay at home dad so I don’t get a lot of socializing. I am a high school teacher and at home for the summer with my kids.

Where are you from? What is your home course? I am from the central Virginia area, Charlottesville being the closest city. My home course is Greene Hills.

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? I can’t complain about the golf in my area. Wish I had a few more courses to pick from.

What do you do for a living? I am a high school physical education teacher.

How’d you pick your user name? I went to Emory & Henry College and our mascot was the Wasps. 007 is a number that I’ve used a lot, nothing to do with James Bond.

Callaway Maverick driver, Mizuno 3-wood and irons, Cleveland wedges, TaylorMade putter. Primarily play with Oncore golf balls

Welcome to the MyGolfSpy forums! We’re always glad to have new members contributing to the best golf discussions on the internet.  If you’ve already created an introduction thread, feel free to re-introduce yourself here!

If you haven’t yet done so, take a moment to check out the Moral Codes that shape how we treat each other here.

You’ll find that this community is very welcoming to newcomers so come on in, take off your shoes, and get comfortable. Tell us all about yourself. To help us get to know you, here are some questions you might answer in your new member post. Feel free to share some fun pictures of your golfing ventures as well!

  1. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

  2. What do you love about golf?

  3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

  4. Where are you from? What is your home course?

Hey spies! Glad to join this community!

1.) I've been playing for three years. My handicap is 26.3 and I typically score in the high 90s to low 100s.

2.) I love that it can be both casual and competitive. It also allows me to connect with a lot of close friends and professionals in a different environment.

3.) I've read a lot of posts on MyGolfSpy over the past two years and liked the content.

4.) I am from Delaware. I play Deerfield weekly and I also frequent Back Creek and Patriots Glen.

5.) I think the best thing is the number of golfers to connect with. The worst I would say is the low amount of courses in a close proximity can cause overloaded courses at peak times.

6.) I am a Regional Customer Service Manager.

7.) I picked the same username as my X account.

Hey All! New to this group, new to this game. Just started playing golf this March. Never knew how infuriatingly fun it could be. You know everyone talks about "what's the shot that made you come back and play again" my answer is all of the bad ones. The ones where I top the ball and it rolls 40 yards. Or i hit it 30 yards left instead of on the green. Its similar to baseball where its a game of failure and you have to minimize the failure to get better.

If you told me 10 years ago that id be playing golf in my 30's i would have asked what drugs you are on....Yet, here I am lol

I am not familiar with North Hills at all so I didn't comment on it.  It may be the equal of the other two i just dont know.  @funkyjudge is from the area and has played quite a few courses, he may have a review and/or suggestion for you.

I have played Wyncote often and it is a favorite of mine.  It is a links style on most of the course where there are options to run the ball onto the green if you need to keep it low and out of the wind which is prevelent there (a couple holes aren't quite a links style set up).  The conditions have always been fantastic every time I played.  I have only played Hartfeld a few times over the years in some DWGA events with my wife but the layout is very challenging and the conditions were also fantastic the times I played.

Wanted to follow up on this: Wynecote was fantastic. Such a beautiful property and course. 100% believe that course is easier to play the second time around, with all the blind shots. But absolutely loved that course and will be back.

Hartefeld was also great. The elevation changes and views were really enjoyable. And the club itself, particularly the outdoor patio, were wonderful.

North Hills was also really nice, but a very different course. Definitely a city course on a small property, so tight fairways and errant shots ending up on other holes. But it was a nice, challenging, very historic course. I believe it was founded in 1908 and it feels historic in a cool way. Worth playing.

Very excited to be here and to be apart of this community!

1. I've been playing golf since 14, my dad was a former D1 golfer and tried to get me into the game at a young age, but unfortunately I have a habit of hating things I'm not good at so it took a while for me to come around to the game.

2. If everything is an appropriate answer then I fall under that category. Nothing in this world that I've experienced yet in my 30 years on this planet can bring me the most joy anyone has ever experienced and 5 seconds later bring me right back to reality, it's amazing.

3. I don't know any other spies (hoping to meet some new people!) and I think I stumbled upon this website through an instagram post?

4. I'm from Lancaster, PA. Currently not a member anywhere, more of a traveling nomad playing rounds at all of my buddies country clubs around the area.

5. The best is the variety of golf courses within a 1 hours drive, there are some truly special courses in central pa in my opinion. The worst is trying to play 18 at a public course on the weekends, standard minimum is 5 hours for the most part.

6. I'm an Account Manager at a marketing agency.

7. Instagram handle.

Hey everyone! Been a mygolfspy lurker for a bit now but finally decided to join:

1. I have been playing golf for a year. Handicap probably 40? My last score was in the 100s

2. I love the individual nature of golf, as a person who participated in organized team sports all my life it’s been kind of nice to switch gears and just worry about what I’m doing and how I can improve. Skateboarding has been a large part of my life since probably high school so the individual nature of that translated really well into golf, if something goes right that was all me and if something goes wrong that was all me as well.

3. I know no other spies, but I came to MyGolfSpy pretty consistently for reviews and equipment news within golf, I am a big equipment addict (I.e. cleats for different sports, skate tech like wheels and trucks, basketball shoes, even art equipment) so I always want to learn about the stuff I like and how it’s used, finally decided to join what seems like a nice community of like minded people.

4. I am from New Jersey, South Jersey to be exact and I don’t really have a home course but I guess I’d consider my first course I played on as home so, Kresson Golf Course in Voorhees, NJ.

5. Best thing about golf is I have a ton of friends in the area that play and are down to hit a range, worst thing is the weather, due to seasons that we get in the North East, can’t always go out and play or even go to a range.

6. I am a manager at a retail store. Trying to get out of retail though. Use my degree and stuff.

7. My username is just my name and my favorite number (Shaq is my favorite basketball player ever, his rookie year in Orlando was 32 and my dads favorite basketball player Dr. J wore 32 with the New York Nets in the ABA and my dad was a huge NJ fan but definitely a bigger Nets fan when they were in Jersey)

Hope to contribute and be active on the forums now that I’m apart of it!

So in terms of playing golf, taking it seriously playing more than three  times a year I’ve been playing for about 3 to 4 years now.
Most of my playing is in a nine hole leagues where my average is 42. I guess what I love about Golf is it’s a new challenge for me. My first true passion is archery. I used to shoot competitively and was very good. Played very little to no Golf up till about 10 years ago and as I stated before only really started taking it what I would call serious (2 or more times a week) about 4 years ago. Unfortunately, in upstate New York. We can only play from about April till the beginning of November. Usually my golf season ends in October because of archery season. I would love to start playing golf again, after archery season but it’s too cold  here and most of the courses are closed. I came to my Golf spy because I read or have read a lot of your reviews. Worst thing about Golf in my area is I pay the same price for a course membership as my dad in Florida he gets to play year around and I get to play for about seven months. One of the best things is playing golf with new people and being able to while the leaves are changing color. What  pays for golf and archery is being a lineman.

Hi, forum!

1. I started swinging clubs with a purpose from 15-17, then stopped until Covid when I really decided to lock in on the only thing we could “do” socially. I’m a 12, but I started the year as an 18 and the year before as a 24, so by that logic I’ll be a +8 in 3 years 😉

2. I just enjoy how fun the challenge is, and I have a knack for learning new skills that I’ll only need once a round that I see on YouTube (ex: the Tiger Woods chop 5 wood out of the rough or a punch draw from under the trees). When you let your mind open to golf and choose to see different routes to the hole other than a straight line, that’s my favorite.

3. I’ve been reading MGS articles for years, probably 5 I think? Honestly, I read the forum too just forgot I didn’t sign up

4. I’m from NJ, and play most of my golf on Galloping Hill (the course that overlooks the parkway).

5. The best is the quality of public courses, the worst is they’re all largely an hour from me lol, union county only has 2 courses that are 30 mins from each other.

6. Business development

7. In 2010 all of the HP Compaq laptops came with a free techno album installed called Ninja Tuna, and then I made that my Xbox Gamertag (I was 10) and now that’s my non PII.

I started playing golf when I was 15.  My Grandfather gave me his old golfs, Hogan Director Blades.  I remember having my Mom drop my friends and I off at the course.  I stopped playing in my early 20's because everybody went their separate ways and I did not have any golf buddies around and I found love...LOL.  I was married at 25 and our daughter was born 1.5 years later.

Fast forward to COVID.  One of the few things that you could do during COVID was to play golf.  My son started playing with his friends and I bought a set of used Clevelands and got back into playing and have not stopped.  BTW, I'll be 55 on Monday.  So it was quite a long layoff.

I love the competition of golf.  I was a D1 soccer player, so I've always liked the competition.  I also really enjoy that this is something that I can do with my son.

With my long layoff in playing I went to the computer when I was getting back into the game and I found My Golf Spy.  I enjoy all of the articles and the good information in the forum.

I currently live in Westampton, NJ which is located in the northern part of Burlington County (south jersey).  I usually play the public courses in Mercer County.  I really like the two Mercer Oaks courses and Hopewell CC.

The best thing about golf in my region is the number of courses close to me.  The worst thing is the cost of some of the courses are simply not worth what they are charging.

I am a CFO for a company that manufacturers pool liners and covers.  As a CFO I have vendors who like to take me to some nice courses.  I've played at the Ridge and Back Brook, Tavistock, Springdale (Princeton Univ), Jericho National and Philadelphia Cricket Club.

My username is first initial and my last name, I know not very creative.  We are Disney Vacation Club Members so we go the Florida quite often.  So far, I've played Lake Buena Vista and Oak Trail.  We are going in November and I will be playing definitely once but maybe twice.  I will play Magnolia and if I can get two rounds in, I'll play the Palm.  Disney also owns property in Hilton Head.  I've played at Old South, Hilton Head National, Oyster Reef, Palmetto Dunes Jones.  We will be in HHI next summer.

Greetings from the great state of New Jersey

I started playing more serious golf about 3 years ago when I started working in a golf department at a retail store. I grew to love the game from learning about it for my job and since then I have become a golf junkie.

I quickly exchanged my strata starter set I had for a set of Rogue st max irons, some Callaway jaws wedges and a stealth driver. I will say just from that initial bag refresh it dropped my score dramatically to the lower to mid 90’s within a year of playing, which is why I love researching golf equipment.

I’m sure everyone knows the struggle of inconsistency but I love the game of golf because it is a competition between yourself. My current handicap sits between 13 and 14 my best round being 83 three times. The courses in my county are all incredible and even the public courses have some great deals to get out and play any day of the week. My biggest issue is pace of play mixed with golf etiquette. Crazy statement but I think everyone should be required to take a golf etiquette class the same way hunters do to be able to go out into the woods.

My bag setup consist of a Cobra Darkspeed Ls driver and 3 wood, I have a Srixon Zx utility 2 iron bent to 16 degrees, 23 p770’s 4-P 1 degree flat, and 2 Cleveland rtx 6 wedges and a rtx full face 58 degree all are also 1 degree flat. Current putter is the newest Never Compromise.

Hope to learn some interesting things from everyone and break 80!

MGS New Member Introduction: Mid-Atlantic Region

New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia

  5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

  6. What do you do for a living?

  7. How’d you pick your user name?

Good day all and it's a pleasure to participate in this community!

1) I've been playing golf since I was about 7 so it's been a long time, but I did stop for a decade or so and came back during Covid. I play to a 4.5 , and I'll typically shoot in the mid to high 70s.

2) I love the mental aspect of it and I love the walking! There's such a sense of peace especially when I'm fortunate enough to do an early morning round.

3) Long time lurker and I find MyGolfSpy has some quality content that unbiased.

4) Now I'm in Essex County of New Jersey, and I suppose my home course would be Hendricks Field

5) Best thing is that there's a healthy selection of public courses within a 20 mile radius. Worst thing is that it's beomce more and more expensive and challenging to book given how popular golf is nowadays.

6) I'm a Director of Luxury Packaging in NYC
7) Don't ask 🙂

So I have a bucket list: play a round of golf in all 50 states. Despite me living not too far from New Jersey, I haven’t played a round in NJ yet! Anyone from Jersey here have suggestions for courses to check NJ off my list?

Happy to be here & love the content MGS is putting out!

How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score?

-Been playing most of my life, started when I was about 10, now 32. Played in high school then fell off in my 20s, taking golf seriously again the past few year. Currently an 8.3hc fight to break 80 as often as possible.

What do you love about golf?

- My late grandfather got me into the game, so I love feeling a connection to him still. Otherwise, I love the challenge it presents as a player and the opportunity to be outside in beautiful places.

What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies?

- Found MGS last year while heavily researching new irons. Ended up getting fitted for Mizuno irons and read everything I could about them.

Where are you from? What is your home course?

- Currently living on Long Island, NY. Play Bethpage most often (not black, but I have played it).

What are the best and worst things about golf in your region?

- Best is a large number of courses, worst is extreme competition for tee times, especially at Bethpage. Also it's hard being so close to multiple top courses in the world that I'll never get to play.

What do you do for a living?

- Account Manager for a Luxury Vacation rental company in the Hamptons.

How’d you pick your user name?

- Just a play on my name.

- TM M2 driver, Titlesist 909 F2 3wood, Paradym 3hy, Mizuno JPX 923 HMPros, Cleveland CG14 wedges.
