All Time Favorites: Comfort Foods

Feeling Inspired from the recent Chicken and Burger recipe threads I figured I could kick off one for all those comfort foods we may or may not be indulging in right now as a lot of us have more time than usual to cook.

This can be a entree or dessert or even a snack.  If it's one of your favorites lets share!  recipes are great too so we can try it out!

To start off I'll share a more recent addition to my "most famous" cooking:  The Steak and Cheese Ring.  I basically follow this recipe here:

My favorite brownies... 3 ingredients! Yep. Three.

2 cups graham Cracker crumbs
1 1/2-2 cans of Eagle Brand condensed milk
1/2 bag to a full bag of chocolate chips

Mix it all together. Put into a glass baking dish. Cook on 350* for 15-20 minutes, or until when doing the toothpick test, a toothpick comes out clean.

Best. Brownies. Ever.

Right now it’s sausage gravy for biscuits and gravy with soft fried eggs. Don’t buy the premix packets you can make this from scratch. So easy!

1lb of Jimmy Dean style sausage.
Some flour
Some 2% milk
A roll of Biscuits

Break apart the sausage to small sizes and brown. Once they’re done, sprinkle approx a Tbsp of flour (I’m not a baker, I cook by eye) to coat the sausage. Next, pour in about a cup of milk and stir. Then add another tbsp or so of flour until you see it thicken. Then more milk. Repeat until you’re satisfied with the density and quantity. Salt and pepper to taste.

Breakfast pizza...

It’s been absent from our menu for a long time.

It’s making a one time comeback next Sunday.

Now there's two of my favorite categories covered... now If we can somehow make a breakfast pizza taco? I might just die and go to heaven right then.

How do you make yours?  Still with pizza sauce?

I love smoked meats/BBQ and I love pizza.

Smoked meat + BBQ + Pizza = my ultimate comfort food.

Homemade molasses wheat dough. Smoked, chopped pork loin. Smoked homemade pork sausage. Fresh mozzarella from our Italian deli. Homemade BBQ sauce.

Oh no, Sir.

Homemade Sausage Gravy, eggs, bacon, etc. either the pre made croissant wedges turned into the dough, or sometimes we make our own dough.

Cool the crust for a few minutes; then add the gravy.

Cheese too if you like.

My favorite comfort food is my dads coffee rub steak. He is a culinary teacher and previously to that chef at a restaurant in Boston. The s*** he makes I couldn’t even think to concoct. In comes coffee steak....sounds terrible but let me tell you wow. It’s the best steak you’ll ever have. He puts a sauce with it I forget what it is I’ll get the recipe if anyone is interested.

Oh coffee rub is awesome!

I use these as a bases on a lot of red meats when I smoke.

TJ's has some really good out of the jar seasonings that don't need much alteration, but maybe added salt.

The umami is great on pretty much anything!

acceptable resolution.  Ashley just informed me that we have some coffee rub in the house too.  Who knew!? Her grocery list is going to be a little bigger based on these food threads!

That definitely looks delicious! Growing up, biscuits and gravy was my favorite breakfast food, well... it still is. We made breakfast for dinner tonight, it was so good. Bacon, sausage, French toast, biscuit and gravy.
