This is from a couple of years ago. It’s slightly shorter now... but still pretty long.

I will never forget that game. I smoked cigarettes (only do that when extremely drunk) shot whiskey with strangers, and left quite an impression on my gf at the time (now wife).

The most messed up thing is that one of her friends met a guy for a blind date that night to watch the game. He claimed to be a Leafs fan, so why the hell was he on a blind date on a game 7, I don't know. All I know is that is if I had met a girl for the first time on that night, I never would have called her again.

And it's all somehow Phil Kessel's fault.

I won't lie, there's some bitterness as a Detroit sports fan about Boston sports. Still have nightmares of Tori Hunter flipping over the right field fence at Fenway trying to grab Ortiz' home run ball.

I'm also a little jaded because I spent a summer in Cooperstown interning at the Hall of Fame and everyone is either a Yankees fan or a Red Sox fan. Too easy to jump on the bandwagon. (Though Yankees fan are undoubtedly worse!)

 

Detroit had Barry and there will never be anyone at that position as good as him. Say what you want about Payton, Jim Brown, Emmett Smith etc. No one moved like Barry and if he were on a better team, it would've been easier to convince folks that he was the goat RB.
