I had a notification of someone coming to the door today while I was playing a round. Shouldn’t have checked, as it was a cobra box! Hard to focus on those last 5 holes. Anyways, here are the beautys that we’re waiting for me inside the box! Already had a tee time for tomorrow morning. Excited to test them out. Love the Copper face/black KBS $ shaft look from first glance. More pictures to come later.

Oh my, those do look fantastic (and proper since they’re facing the right way, sorry @txgolfjunkie 😉 )

Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the snakebites too!  The full face looks better in your pic than the online renders.

I got my first round in with the MIMs and Snakebite wedges. Didn’t record this round in Arccos as I’m waiting for the woods to come in.

Shot an 81 40/41. 7/14 FIRs, 7/18 GIRs. Results might now show it, but I really enjoyed the MIMs for my first round with zero range sessions. It felt like I was flushing most of my shots, even those in the rough. I went from 90g to 120g in the shaft, so it will take a minute to get used to that as I left a couple out to the right, but all in all I really enjoyed them! The Snakebite wedges were great as well. I was playing on firm and fast greens today. It’ll take me a couple rounds to get used to them, but overall was very happy. I think I’m going to like the full groove face on the 58.

Let’s talk about the finish on the Copper MIMs. I was warned about this at my fittings, but sand will take some specs off the finish. The range was sandy, and it didn’t take many swings to notice some specs forming. Below is an 8 iron I hit 5 times on the range. I didn’t clean off the balls and some of them had a more sand specs on them. This was right after the range, it wore off and wasn’t as distinguished after the round.

DAE68A5E-F461-4E91-9C27-DA642FCC8C6B.jpeg.5f01582bf3bf92ee7a3573e5509f95ab.jpeg

Here is my 7 iron below that I didn’t hit on the range but hit 4-5 times during the round. I really think the sand on golf balls or a sandy range could play a factor into more wear on these clubs. Will have to watch and clean off the balls on the range for now on.

7CC5561A-6458-4D3A-8297-CCB39D461312.jpeg.9f5683ea595a76f8872b3aa79a60e5e1.jpeg

I've only hit off mats or tee/fairway/rough conditions with my Copper MIMs and there are a few light scratches starting to show up. It's to be expected. I'm too nervous to hit these off a sandy range...and the next time I hit into a fairway bunker during a round, I just might take a penalty and drop outside the bunker to save the finish.

Sandy range balls will tear up any iron, regardless of finish. I remember taking my new Ping i210 irons and seeing the hydropearl finish get torn up after one session on a sandy hitting area.

Ditto, here. I hit a lot of shots on the range with both my wedges, and use the practice bunker a bit with my 58. Nothing more than normal wear. Certainly not the same matte black anymore, but it looks well used, in a nice way!

But just incase, make sure you always hit the center... it will look great with a wear spot right there. 🏌️‍♂️

Is it crazy that this is one of my motivations to become a better ball striker? To have an impressive wear pattern?

And the black finish wears pretty good when you hit a ball off the hosel as well? Asking for a friend.

Off the toe I can tell you it holds up well... if you're asking about shanks you'll need to ask @GB13 about those.  😉

Just kidding, Greyson, I remember you had the chrome MIM wedges so we'd never know.

Double just kidding.  Really just tagged you to see how you're doing, we need some of that youthful exuberance in here to get these competitors fired up!

Well I still haven't had any clubs arrive, which is absolutely terrible for my work productivity. I'm having them delivered to my office (since no one is at home during the day and our front porch is steps from the road), so every time I hear a truck drive into the parking lot I start bouncing up and down in my seat listening to hear if anyone comes through the door downstairs. The real question is at what point will my boss start to notice....!

That would mean finding shafts and spending a couple hundred dollars for the shafts and the new build. Don’t think that is in the cards.

Bummed

If your initial feedback on the iron heads is good, what about just doing a shaft swamp on your current iron shafts?  That way you can get a better feel for things.

No way in hell I’m touching my Mizuno/obans.

If it it was as simple as putting a new driver adapter on, maybe. My Mizunos fit me like a glove and I’m not going to do anything to jeopardize those.

I’m going to be doing my best to give as much feedback about the MIMs as possible in with the build cobra sent me. If anything, it will provide everyone with a reminder to never sacrifice your fitting results because a certain shaft is back ordered.

... Amen jlukes. I think the average player would be shocked at how much tip weighting OEM's use. If you change shafts and then try to re-install, you will never get them exactly the same again. Different weights, amount of epoxy and feel for a better player will all be different.

Yup. And it paid a lot of money to have them built by True Spec to very specific specifications. I don’t want to undo anything they did during the build

Another round in the books and I'm starting to see some trends with these clubs...

Driver and 3W need additional weight in the head. Both are light and I'm losing feeling in the swing. I ordered some weights for the driver and they should arrive Thursday but I'll just use some lead tape for the fairway. Drives are still short low draws (use to hit high fades) and 3 wood is a pull draw instead of a pull fade. The driver is still double digit yards behind my gamer and I'm hoping the weight helps with that.

Irons are flying straighter than I'm used to. I usually play a slight fade to hold the greens but I'm just hitting straight ball after straight ball. I hit a good number of greens today but of my 18 approach shots, 15 were right of the pin. No fade. I lived on the right side of the greens all day.

Wedges are really great. Really, really great. The greens were soft and grainy with not much run out which allowed me to fly my chips closer to the hole. Great spin control around the greens and on half shots.

Overall it's still a learning process and I just need to aim for a straight ball off the irons and aim down the left fairway off the tee box. We're getting there... Slowly but surely.

I also found the fairway to be draw biased at stock settings.  I opened the 5 wood up all the way to -1.5 and it has been an absolute weapon for me since.  Have you played around with those settings at all to see if you can get your preferred feel?  Also, great round with a bag full of new sticks! #TEAMCHAD FTW!

I've got all the woods at -1* but I will open them up even more. I do notice during take-away that they do want to close down and then it's difficult to get them back into position. It's the craziest thing but every manufacturer is different. Thanks for the suggestion!

Very interesting. I too ham seeing pull draws with my Driver. Something I had practically eliminated with my gamer driver.

I am playing the driver in neutral, the 3w at -1 and the 7 wood at -1.5 right now. The lower loft is mainly to give me a slightly more open face look at address

I played early this morning in Galveston, TX and the mosquitos really killed the mood. We were in such a hurry to get through the round I didn't get many good shots of the maiden voyage with my new Cobra sticks. However, one mosquito did land on my ball just before I hit and this was the end result:

A10DC99F-11EC-4A5F-9CE7-3368038367F3.jpeg.6463baeb378d9d82c1edf237de028069.jpeg

I'll clean up some video and add some shots/round summary with the arccos.

The wedges around the greens were the biggest surprise of the day. Just amazing feel and excellent spin control, even in the wet conditions.

The next time you play in Galveston I expect an invite 😂

damn those copper irons are sexy!

My miss with my current driver tends to be a push slice, so all this talk of pull draws had me excited for my clubs to arrive!

My F7 driver was very draw biased as well, I ended up having to order some different weights to straighten it out some

Oh man… I’ve been gaming a hobbled together set of irons for a year (bought used beads, was going to buy shafts, but they needed parallel tips, so i used pulls from the club pro)… hit my preferred shafts last night at a srixon fitting and immediately ordered them… get the right shaft! It’s important!

Good (is that the right word to use?) to hear that you notice this as well and it's not a sudden swing change on my end. Crazy arrows, it's never the Indian!

It all seriousness, I'm hoping the added weight in the driver head, and some lead tape out on the toe of the 3W will help straighten out the ball flight. You would think the added weight will keep the head from closing down too fast at impact.
