Updating the top of my bag

Recommended Posts

Looking toward next season and gaining some consistency at the top. Looking at a 7w (sub70 or a 21* UW) to replace my inconsistent 3H and then maybe a 5h I can swap in and out with my 4i. My 4i is a GI type club so it is still ok to hit. Just wondering peoples thoughts. I’ll post my SS data p avg. mind you my 5i is used a lot in punch out situations.

Not going to lie to me it looks like you have 3 clubs where you could very well have 2.

If your 5 is close to a 200 yd club then something that fits in the 212-216 range should hit the sweet spot for you.

I'm in a similar situation and ended up ditching the 4 iron all together. Could easily play with 13 clubs and not feel like I'm missing anything.

Edit: or a really strong 3 wood could be added?

Thanks. I thought of a strong 3w but i really have no use to it. I went for a 4w as something to get more air on to go after greens and a second tee club as a second reason for it. I like the 4i for the most part when I'm not hooking it like crazy. I have hit some amazing shots with it. I could easily put in a 7 wood (my ideal) and keep the 4i as they would play different roles. I could also either go hybrid after the 7w or utility after the 7 wood and have that as a punch out and special tee distance cases. My 5i is close to a 200 yard club on paper but is yet to be seen in the data. I could also drop the 5i, keep the 4, maybe bend it week a deg or 2 and then play 13 clubs or get something like mentioned above. Likely i need to go for a gapping session and then find what can fit the top of my bag (or just experiment 🙂 )

Options:

a) 7w and 22-24* hybrid

b) 7w and drop 4i and play with 13 clubs

c) 7w and drop 5i, weaken 4i and play with 13 clubs

d) add a 14th specialty club to b) or c) (utility, maybe a chipper, hybrid, mini driver, hammer driver (j/k))

You clubs form top to bottom have bad gaping. You should be closer to 12-15 yards in your wedges thru mid irons. Then on the 10-12 range for your longer irons then for your worlds figure out what numbers you need.

Ignore lofts on clubs and test different lofts and lengths to find the right setup.

But also using total distance from these apps is a bad way to gap the bag. Gap off carry distance

ya i need a trackman gapping session to confirm things. The on course data is a starting point but not an absolute since all clubs aren't hit stock as punch outs happen and so forth.

You won't get carry distance with SS, but you can get more realistic total distances if you are marking your punch/chip shots as positional.
