What would you do?

I won around $1,200 in my fantasy football league this year. That’s my second win in a row after a 2nd place finish so 3 years cashing in a row. It’s a keeper league, my roster is about to go caput and I had to trade my number one pick next year to bolster my receiving corps.

 

At any rate I will have them keep my $175 buy in and tithe my winnings to Damar’s charity.

 

After that I have around $875. My wife reaffirmed that those winnings are mine to use for golf equipment. 
 

How would you spend that max money? BTW this is how I’ve ended up with new drivers the last three years.

This year I would probably get some wedges or just save it for a nice golf trip somewhere somewhat close by. Do a night and 2 rounds or something!

I think @GolfSpy_BOS had the right idea with a golf trip. Equipment comes and goes and unless there is a true standout for you right now this season I would say see if you can swing a weekend trip or experience. I am sure there are other spies that would meet up or join you depending on where you go. 

At least that is what I would be looking at doing!

Other than donate a large percentage to the Saint who walked you through resizing your pictures for the LAB review, I’ve gotta agree with the “trip” idea. If not a trip, maybe taking three of your buddies to a great course you never play - something (to quote Cousin Eddie) “reaaaal nice”. 

they’d be thrilled, and you’d get to feel like you shared the spoils - good for the soul, for sure.

As I get older, I reflect on the experiences rather than the things I bought. So not sure if that helps your thought process - I'd definitely go for the trip/round that's been on your bucket list vs equipment. You'll always remember that experience 10 yrs from now vs. a piece of equipment that's been deemed obsolete by new and improved 5 times over in that 10 year span.

I've got to say that I'd put it towards a trip as well, even if it is the start of a larger "trip fund" that is a bucket list type experience. One thing I have on my bucket list is to visit Ireland (where my family heritage comes from) and play a round of golf there. As others have stated, equipment comes and goes, but those memories and experiences are once in a lifetime and are irreplaceable.

Seriously, take the wife to a nice restaurant and maybe surprise her with an overnight hotel stay. That’ll earn you an some extra days in the future to play golf.

I agree that equipment might not be that satisfying, and it sounds like you're in good shape there anyhow. I would personally use the money toward a membership at a local track (silver package or something not too outrageous). Alternatively, you could save toward a sim set-up in your home. I have a Skytrak and GS Pro. Nothing beats being able to go in there on a Saturday night with the TV on and some beers and playing a round at TPC Sawgrass, Pebble Beach, etc.

These are great suggestions. I’ve actually done some of them - played Sawgrass. It was unforgettable especially since I was the only one in the group on the green on 17 and that included a pro.

I belong to a very nice club. There’s really only one club in my area that would be nicer and it’s out of reach for me - $1000 wouldn’t make a dent in its buy in. Several spies have played with me at Bayou and I’m sure they’d agree that it would be hard to find an upgrade. Plus they’ve done a lot of work on the course and it’s in great shape. 
 

I’m thinking this may be the time to play a couple of the Stream Song courses. That’s where I’m leaning at this moment if any of our Florida spies were interested. 
 

We are also playing a cool format for the playoffs. Submit a roster with 2 QBs, 3 RB, 3WR, TE, D, K and get their total points through the Super Bowl. Winner take all.

I won 1 league and finished 3rd in another and as my wife said it's my fun money and I can do what I wish. Not often I get blanket support like that. As @tony@CIC said experiences are the best bang for your buck. All that being said I bought a drone with my winnings to play with.

Buy a set of the Kirkland Signature irons from Costco when they come out and see if you can flip them for a profit on eBay. If so, spend the extra money on your trip. If not, just return them, go on the trip anyway. You’re playing with house money now.
