My grandparents lived on what is now Golf Links Road. Many was the weekend afternoon we drove past HSCC (two courses) and I saw the golfers out there enjoying a weekend round. That experience was probably what planted the golf bug in me; my dad never played. Grandpa played (he was stationed in NC in the Army and occasionally played Pinehurst) when he was younger but by the time I came around he was solely a fisherman. When I was in college, I worked for the athletic department and one of my coworkers was the son of an HSCC member. He invited me to play HSCC one weekend. I don't remember much about that round except the dog holed a shot from the fairway for an eagle. But it was a nice course. Popular Post SirPrised
8 hours ago, EnderinAZ said: I have been reading Every Shot Counts, a book by the guy who invented the strokes gained matrix. He says for pros and amateurs over all putts are worth about 15% of your total round. The other 85% are the other shots. So I had 8 putts that could have gone in, so 8 strokes. I also had a ball that went out (brain fart), two fat pitch shots, two skulled chips (on the same darn hole) that ended up with a triple. And some other issues. The thing is all of the non putting errors had the potential for greatness. The missed putts, just one stroke. I am not sure if the author is correct about strokes gained, but I do now see his point about counting putts. This requires more golf and research. It's a bit weird how it's presented because it's about the difference in skill between players, not actual number of strokes themselves. The difference in skill between what makes the score of amateur golfers and what makes the score professional golfers, when it comes to putting, is only about 15% of the total score. One example he gives is that when it comes to two-foot putts amateurs and professionals are both so close to 100% that there is virtually no skill difference to report. This difference in skill gets bigger the further away from the hole we are and the greatest difference, as it relates to strokes gained and ultimately the differences in our scores, comes from ball striking. I found the book incredibly interesting, but I haven't yet found it particularly useful. Popular Post EasyPutter
Good morning MGSpies from feels like summer for one more day in WNY with a downturn in the weather coming in the next 24hours here on this Wednesday after the long trip. Work computer sorting itself out on the network for what is expected to be a day in email jail thanks to being away from it for 6 workdays golf did not happen yesterday thanks to miscommunication with playing partner and him having someone need him at work, so it was a compulsory rest day and one I was glad of planning in after learning from previous meetups. Golf is more PGA HOPE session volunteering for the rest of the week, tonight at Glen Oak GC home of the WNY PGA HQ, tomorrow last session of 6 at Niagara Frontier CC and Sunday last session at Southern Meadows GC - it never fails to amaze me how fast 6 weeks pass when involved in the HOPE program at a site. Popular Post ejgaudette
Good morning all! Was a very nice yesterday indeed. Kids and I went to the lake to wrap up the day while mom did yoga. Always a fun way to end a warm day and nice to have time just myself with them. We had a blast and ended up staying later than I expected. Our youngest fell asleep on the car ride home, and the other two passed out earlier than normal which is a win as well. Kids are off to the dentist today, hoping my sons extra teeth has behaved. He has two extra and one last they looked was moving up not down so they pulled a couple baby teeth to hopefully give space so they come down and we can avoid surgery to take the extras out, but the dentist was clear that was a bit of a long shot. Up with a run first this again this morning, sky was beautiful if portending of the thunderstorms expected this afternoon. Enjoy the golf @Northern Monkey and stay dry if possible. Popular Post Wheelieb
Morning All, It's been a couple days since my last post. I did get out for 9 and shot the lowest score on 9 holes for me. It was a 40, but the interesting thing is I missed all but one fairway. With that said, the rough on the base course here isn't really that bad. I was pleasantly surprised to say the least. This week and into next week is a two week drill. So add that on to the already 7 days from Monday to Sunday last week and we are going Monday to next Thursday. I believe that is 18 days straight with no days off. Thankfully I got special liberty for Friday to go play in a scramble. After that I will have my final review of the Sqairz Velo shoe up. Overcast cool start to league day Wednesday: storms and thunderstorms in the forecast. May be cancelling league play for the second week in a row... dang it! If so the game plan is to go home and get the green out and roll some putts with the Spider and the Mamba. I have about two weeks worth of data to get into the L.A.B. thread once there is a break in the action. Went ahead and signed up for GHIN yesterday to get a more accurate handicap rating, and lo and behold, I got it! Not too far off from what the Golf Pad app had, but the GHIN number is recognized better, so I'm glad I signed up for that. Hoping to get in the league play tonight.... Popular Post Dead Solid Bogey
Good morning MGS. as Josh Parker stated, it will be hot again today. The heat index is suppose to hit the 116-118° area. With the heat, not much in the way of outdoor activities is planned. Golf will also depend on what the Medicos tell me today and what the wife person does to me with that information. I am sure I will get hammered for losing weight ( although not that much )… so, to be a senior citizen smart arse, I am thinking of changing some food /meal metrics. … Have a wonderful Wednesday my fellow spies. Have cake !!! Northern Monkey, Merlin1313, Josh Parker and 10 others 5 3 4
