Kept coming up short on my approach shots for the first half of the round but my putting and chipping was saving me. It was a bit cool but the course was pretty open.

Had a miraculous birdie putt on #3. It has 2 tiers and everything slopes very hard towards the front and a little to the side. I was sitting on the fringe at the top. Pretty much all you can do is tap is just light enough to get the ball rolling and hope you don't have a 20 foot putt coming back up the hill. I left the pin in out of laziness but it paid off. The ball made its way down the hill and hit the pin perfectly to drop in!

This round is being used for 2MuchSnicerz in the forum players tourney.

Okay, so here we go.  Definitely would've been a much nicer day score-wise without the two blow-up holes (9,10), but overall, a really, really fun round with lots of good shots (especially with the 6/9 irons I'm testing), and some good putts that JUST missed making this even better.

Course: Vista Valencia Golf Course

Par: 61

Tees played: Blue ("tips," if we're being fancy, lol)

Long Drive: 252

Closest to pin: 16 ft (missed birdie putt, thanks)

Only 1 three-putt on the day, and that was from the very back of a long green that I lagged well (distance-wise), had about 5 feet to save par and left it high and lipped it.  Oh well.  Hit my irons SO well, overall.  My buddy and I played with a couple of guys that are easily some of the most-fun dudes we've ever played with, and it was sunny and warm, so overall, a fantastic day - managed to get home in time to shower and get to my vasectomy with plenty of time, so one of those days where I felt VERY productive 😉 (just not very REproductive. Ba-dum-dum.  I'll be here all week.)

Nice day, friendly companion, walk was brisk no pace issues, wind was punitive, more than the 12mph as advertised as much as 20 on gusts which seemed to be when I was headwind into a long par 4/5.

Play was suboptimal and that's being nice. Started double double and my focus drifted from there, gradually becoming a semi practice round where I kept a score I didn't care about.

I've decided playing 3 days in a row is too much and leads to fatigue. I also think playing 3-5 times a week is leading to not appreciating as much when I'm out there it's focus time, not I'll do better tomorrow. I will start playing once a week for a while. Maybe a week off in the mean time.

Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992.

Shot my age again today!  Best round I have ever had on my home course wrt GIR... 12!!  Problem today was I could only make one of those birdie chances;  putts were just too long.

Saturday's round was my average score:  85.  If I go back over the last 15 years of posted GHIN scores, my annual average score was 85 -1.1/+.5 (when I discount the two years when I broke my neck and had other surgeries:  assignable causes).

image.png.c5edac36cf897dab1960ab553d5bb60a.png

On several par 4's I was in position to get up and down, but failed to execute.   My playing partner and teammate commented I was "very un-Norm-like".   I've finally adapted to the current borrowed driver, hitting over 70% of the fairways.   Hopefully Ping will work out the specifications from my fitting and send me my new G430 Max driver next week.  I can't wait to put it into play!
Here's hoping that next week's scores are better than average!

What a round! After a week from one of my worst rounds ever played, I turned it around and played one of the best I've played at one of the toughest courses I've been playing at in town. Was dialed in on my short game and putting (Learned to trust that initial line), slices were still ruthless on the drives but I played them every time except towards the end. Kept it as close to bogey golf as I've ever come to before with only a few breakdowns. Last 4 holes I absolutely fell apart, but not enough to diminish how the first 14 felt. Great day of golf! Hoping to keep this going forward as this seasons only just begun. Gonna ride this high into the night and I'm already itching for my next round!

I’m not really sure; I could look it up on our old scorecards but I would say probably 7-8 times over the past 22 months.  I had a couple of times after I turned 74, and maybe 6 more times when I turned 75.  I hope to have many more when I turn 76 in May.

Not that good of a day.  Weather turned again; chilly and breezy and my hands got cold.  Shot 41/39.  I manage to make a birdie on #2 after an opening hole bogey, but then it was a day of scrambling.  Only 6 GIR today.  Ugh!

1st real round of the year and since my back locked up on me in January.

Played ok, but had major issues hitting driver and ended up leaving it in the bag on the back 11 holes.

Hit my irons decent with a couple fatty’s in there but over all pleased and about what I expected.

After a bit of a time off... and after my low expectations round last Friday... I started "thinking" again... which resulted in highlighting my rusty short game.  Amazing how fast you lose your touch around the greens when you haven't played in a bit.  But all in all a pretty satisfying round.  Hit my driver well, hit my irons well... still loving my new iron set... REALLY good on mishits (sadly I am keenly aware of this after the last round.. haha).

Added my rounds in reverse chronological order.  It was a series of progression, towards the better!  Strangely, my last round didn't get me much other than a better score.  Nothing spectacular stood out as far as net birdies goes, but had a lot of good things happen in the round.

I wound up joining another single and had a great time playing with him.  He gave me  a great observation that should straighten my driver out quite a bit.  Was hitting a lot of good draws and didn't duff it nearly as much as I usually do.  Had a couple of holes where things fell apart a bit, but otherwise was happy with how the round went.  Dropping 20 strokes from the beginning of the week is nice.

Also, pace of play was quick.  We wound up finishing at 3:30, mostly because the group in front of us on the back nine was playing slow.  The first half we wrapped in 1:09, took a bit of a break to grab some brewskies and took a leisurely 2:15 on the back 9.

This had the potential of being a decent round, but I had a couple of disaster holes that ruined it.  Mostly poor putting and getting stuck in the sand.  I royally screwed up on #4, as I had to option to pull the ball out of the bunker due to it being a lake, but took an extra swing at it anyway.  Not that it would have saved the hole.  Also, they've done something different at Glendoveer that makes the greens much tougher.  They roll forever and have a bit of break that they never had before.  Turning a birdie putt on #3 into a 6 (it was really 5 putts, entered the score wrong.  Had hit it onto the green to 7 ft) was a total bummer.  #11 could have been ok, but 4 sand shots and 4 putts is an instant snowman, no approach needed!

I did learn from the greens and did better on yesterday's round.

This round reminds me of the Hall & Oates hit "Ball-Eater!".  🎶 'O-o here she comes, watch out boy she'll chew you up!' 🎶 🕺

I think I lost 7 balls, including two of my prized and beloved 348 Protos.  The first one was on hole one second shot.  Hit a 4 wood, bounced off the cart path on the right of the green and slammed into the blackberries along the fence line.  No hope of finding it.   Then it was at a rate of one per hole for the next two holes.  The last four I lost on the back 9  on 16 and 17, which both have some serious water in play.

Still a natural bird on #5 after a mishit was enough to keep me coming back.  It inspired the Friday round in order to get revenge.
