Good choice. Had a couple with dinner tonight. It's nice tonight, only 84* although cloudy, so no stars.

I've heard that the diet drinks make you crave more sugar so you might as well drink the real deal to start with.  :D

I never had it any good? I love beer all kinds

Bags

It's ok, better than most mainstream Australian lager styles. Its the "premium" offering from Australia's biggest brewer. I think it's now owned by SAB, who seem to own half the big breweries all around the world. I'd usually prefer something more craft beer, for about the same price.

Although Champagne  (for that matter, any sparkling wine) is not a favorite of mine, your selection of the Veuve Cliqout Rose is a particularly nice one.  Both the vintage and the rose selection make for a very good sipping wine!

So, Rev, how was it?  Never seen a Kirkland brand single malt... I live in a state where all distilled beverages must be sold thru the state store system... remnant of prohibition, and now a cash cow for the state...

Also, not to sound like a scotch snob, but - I would offer, try your single malt straight up- no ice (or if you need it chilled, invest in the metal or marble "cubes" that you freeze, which will chill the beverage but not dilute it.

Second, before you begin - add a single drop (one can use either an eye dropper or pipette - or a clean finger) of room temperature water to the scotch.  This opens the bouquet  (actually breaks the surface tension and releases the esters, releasing the aromas that the distiller intended).  I know this sounds silly - how can a single drop of water change the complexity and open the flavors of a scotch- but it does.  Try it and let me know what you think.

Yes I the drop of water trick - best if it's distilled. But thanks for the advice. It was pretty good actually - in line with mid level 18s.

What does the state store do to prices? Let's compare - I can always find MaCallan 18 for under $200 if I shop around. Standard 12's - Glenlevidt and the like around 33.

What do you pay?

I suspect you're getting gouged

As I mentioned, I am not enamored with most sparkling wines- however- several years ago, while working in the industry, I worked a birthday dinner for gentleman who founded the Marin, CA Food and Wine society.  Most of the wines came from his personal collection, and, to be honest, I volunteered my time that evening so I could be a part of it and (potentially) experience some of these unique wines-

Without going into great detail about the menu or parings, the wines included 1953 Chateau Lafite Rothschild (in magnum), 1870 and 1864 Rothschild, also in magnum, as well as some other fine vintage wines in celebration of this gentleman's 80th birthday.

While the opportunity to sample these unique wines was in and of itself a once in a lifetime experience, the most memorable wine of the evening was served as an intermezzo, between the salad and entrée... and it was a 1963 Dom Perignon in magnum- and it was transformative!  The bubbles were velvety and lush, the hints of fruit and sugar well developed but not overpowering- the flavor actually exploded in your mouth, and lingered for some time afterwards- it was WONDERFUL.  Probably the most delicious sparkling wine I have ever had the opportunity to taste.

Thanks for reminding me of that wonderful experience!   I will raise a glass of whatever I am drinking on Saturday evening to you and yours, and to your friend's health and better days!

VA Charges in the 40's for standard 12's - I will actually shop on the local military base, where the prices are more comparable to those in "non-state store" jurisdictions, and there is no sales tax...  When I am in MD I can go by any number of liquor stores and get reasonable scotch, but the real secret used to be a Rite-Aid drug store in Annapolis, which was somehow grandfathered in to allow liquor sales- and they carried a very nice 16 year old Single Malt called Scapa- for about 40 bucks - very nice indeed

When I was working in Silver Spring, MD many years ago I could walk across the street into DC and pick up most anything very cheap.  It's a wonder that Congress ever gets anything done!!
