10k training run today. Focused mostly on heart rate, trying to keep it lower than 150 so not the fastest run.

On Wednesday, I finished an 8 workout, 2 week program on the tonal called “Add on, Burn Out” and it was a lot of fun! Basically, each workout would start with one exercise (e.g. bench press), then the second set would be two exercises (e.g. bench press & rows), then the third set would be three exercises (e.g. bench press, rows & bench flies) until you reached six sets. The final set would be two exercises in “burnout mode” that always got me sweating with a high heart rate!
IMG_1731.jpeg.7bd033dcb80cfbff122e3ec08cf44a7d.jpeg

Yesterday I started a 12 workout, 3 week program called “muscle build up” that is supposed to be a burn fat style of exercising.

I’m going to be going on a family vacation in the middle of it so we’ll see if I stick to any exercise routine through that, but I’m going to try.

LiiFTMoRE week2 Day2: calves/hamstrings/core, run two miles, walk one.  I finally set up my net in the garage.  Trying to hit a 100 balls everyday I can.  I can only use clubs up to a 9 iron because of the ceiling height…but you might be surprised at how many calories you burn just hitting balls

About how many calories does whoop tell you you’re burning when hitting 100 balls? Might be a good excuse for me to tell my wife that I need to go to the simulator! 😆

This is about 100 balls.  Working on not getting stuck and flipping my hands.  Prosendr is really good.  Mostly half swings, working on hitting down on the ball.  I’m only allowed to use the yellow hard foam balls in the garage for reasons I won’t talk about…

Wow, that’s an impressive amount of calories! Now that I think about it, I hit 70ish balls the other day in the simulator and I was sweating pretty good.
Sounds like you need to post the reason why you need to use foam balls in a “Story time” thread! 😆

What was supposed to be a 12 mile run almost turned into a half marathon run after the trail I was headed for was flooded. The alternative route would've added another 1.1 miles and went up a significant hill which finished me off. One week till the San Diego Half Marathon and 11 weeks til the Rock-n-Roll Marathon.

The hills killed me today. 832 ft in elevation climb with 1,002 ft in descent.Screenshot_20240317_135009_Connect.jpg.1d7766b92af707fd95e06ff6dc48b94e.jpgScreenshot_20240317_134950_Connect.jpg.9ecaa404f856d9f67bd6342f40d133e1.jpg20240317_113049.jpg.d0557deebe13d2e4e33a24f7e0a431c1.jpg

Back in the saddle from vacation! I did not formally track a single calorie last week, but still managed to keep my weight relatively stable. I had one day where I didn't think about anything, probably because of the six poolside drinks clouding my judgment. Either way, it was a much needed break from everything and I'm glad I was able to get a way.

I'm back into the progressive overload cycle until the FFG app launches, and back to tracking everything. Protein goals have returned, with a minimum intake of .8g / lb or 156g / day, anything more is a bonus. Still working towards getting down to 184 as an intermediate goal. I really don't feel too bad about being around 193-195 and not making my goal in the timeframe I set as I have put on muscle and lost fat - I actually have two abs starting to poke through and reappear. My annual bloodwork came back and everything is where it's supposed to be, so I feel great about my overall health.

Today's Workout: Push - https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/14465676873

Weight: 195.6 (pre-poop. I'm pretty sure I'm back down in the 193-194 area after exercising the cruise demons.)

Things have really gotten on a roll here. After a short vacation where I managed to maintain which was the goal. Things are moving back down. Running still, 3 to 4 days a week but got my desk treadmill back working for the off days so I can put in 3 hours and about 7.5 miles while I work to keep things moving. Eating has been the biggest thing though, getting back to the more thoughtful and plant based diet really helps. Also this weekend we had some trees cut down that I not get to stack so 2 to 3 hours of that the past couple of days has been some good working as well.

Down about 10 lbs so far. Looking to keep things rolling this week!

When I first moved to San Diego, I did not realize how hilly and mountainous it can be. The first two years here, I lived at a higher elevation than when I lived in Western Maryland. Thanks for the support!

Great work! I'm down about 6lbs from my highest point and want to get down another 20-25lbs. Beer is probably my biggest problem getting to caloric deficiency. I'd probably loose more weight if I'd just cut down on alcohol consumption. Keep up the good work!

I've know a few people who have gone through meniscus injuries and surgeries. That's tough. I tore my achilles in 2020 and thankfully fully recovered. I don't do trail runs. I've jacked up my ankles by rolling them and not probably rehabbing so the idea of running on uneven surfaces makes me very uncomfortable.

Thanks and nice to have a fellow runner around here. Unlike many I enjoy my runs and when I am in good running shape I feel the best. Not there yet but maybe some day again.

For those golfers that really want to exercise for golf fitness----I found a great book just for golf even with a 11-day fitness program.  "Get Yourself In GOLF SHAPE" by Cindy Reid w/Steve Eubanks.  It has year round drills to build a strong flexible golf swing.  It explains which muscle groups involved in the golf swing and so on 200+ pages.

5k recovery run. Tried to pick up the speed some but my legs were still sore from the long run on Sunday. Looking forward to the race this Sunday. Didn't have much time between finishing my run and getting my boys from school so had to just do a couple of loops around the neighborhood by their school.

Last night's workout was all legs (squats, lunges & deadlifts on repeat). It was brutal and my legs are feeling it this morning. I haven't had one area of my body so tired after a workout in a long time. Today is supposed to be an upper body day, so we'll try to fit that in and see how it goes!

Good luck at the race this weekend @FallenSaber!

Steam room sounds great!

Have you ever done ice baths? They're a pretty popular recovery method right now.

For me it's not so much the day after a crazy leg session where I'm feeling tired, but the following day where everything is super tight and painful. Hopefully you don't have too many flights of stairs to walk down!

And to reiterate - go kick some butt this weekend @FallenSaber!

I have not - although I am interested as my anecdotal information processing suggests that they decrease recovery time substantially.

I will sometimes take a full blast cold shower immediately afterward - sometimes it's cold enough that I'm gasping. Never done anything full immersion into actual ice water though.

@GolfSpy_KFT's article has a section specifically about hydrotherapy and mentions the benefits of "cold plunges."

https://mygolfspy.com/news-opinion/recovery-strategies-for-golfers/

"Hydrotherapies have gained traction as another way to improve recovery time after exercise. One method is cold plunging. The health benefits that have been associated with the cold plunge method are strong. These may include:

Reduced inflammation

Better sleep

Enhanced immune function

Improved injury recovery

Potential reduction of delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)"

I might give them a try for days like today!

This article is great @GolfSpy_KFT . One of the biggest things that helps me recover is the use of my foam rollers. I have a 36" one and a 6" lacrosse ball and sometimes I will couple them with a 10mg THC/CBD beverage before spending 30 - 45 minutes on them. I don't utilize this super frequently, but when I've had exceptionally high intensity workouts I will grab a can and go to work with the rollers. I'll usually do this an hour or two before bed and then I'm out cold all night, waking up and feeling like a million bucks in the morning.
