TM has the 3 woods that are called the "Rocket" three woods.  Same head size (I believe) but lofted down a degree to 14*.  I personally prefer a 3 wood that I can loft down and open the face.  I want every club in my bag to look like it won't ever go left.

Well, I got my box home and got it opened. When I saw the driver in the box, I felt like a 14 year-old Arthur pulling Excalibur from the stone.

Like I mentioned in my bio, I have never had any new tech in my hands. It has always been a couple of years old and used. I was impressed with the packing as it arrived safe and intact.

Once I unwrapped the driver from its packaging, the headcover was next. What a cover it is. It is clean in its design and with a simple Qi10 as an identifier. After these two items came out, there was the build sheet. One that the customer would get when they purchase one. It has all the specs.

Here are views of the driver head. Since I have the Standard version, I didn’t get all the adjustable bells and whistles. It will adjust for loft, higher and lower than the factory setting.

Note on the top of the driver, just a simple logo as an alignment aid. The other point is that the face is pristine and virgin. I plan on changing that tomorrow with a trip to the range and to the course.

I’ll pull numbers from my launch monitor for you all as well as a description of how it performed on the course on its initial outing.

set at 9.75* ( 1.5* open)

Taylormade Q10 max has more of an upright lie at standard too , I believe .

I have to agree with all on the accuracy front.  More to come when I can write more up, but playing yesterday I hit an unheard of (for me) 71% of fairways.  Now I did not hit driver all the time, but when I did even mishits went straight.  And I agree re toe hits; those also went straight or a little right but not OB or even near.  They went high and pretty straight which was good to see.  
 

I have not yet unlocked the distance potential but I think that is a swing issue (casting - costing me lots of clubhead speed) that I intend to fix at the range in the morning and then report back.
 

So far I am favorably impressed.

I went back and looked at driver data from the round at Old Corkscrew. 
 

 

I hit the Qi10 driver 7x.  4 were decent swings.  As I said yesterday I have a casting problem I need to fix today.  Of those four three were in the fairway and one missed just left.

That is an improvement in accuracy.  I typically don’t miss horribly when I am swinging better, but I do miss right into the short rough frequently.  The Qi10 has not yet shown that tendency.  

It was great to knock some winter rust off.  I played with my brother and we had a great time, and we ended up tying with poor scores, which eases that pain.

 

Now I am off to the range to fix the swing again, I hope, and gain some data to share.

Is everyone else impressed/surprised that the driver made it to all locations without a scratch? Are our expectations too high? Or are others (e.g., DTCs) overdoing their packaging?

I’ve had a great time reading everyone’s progress so far. I’m can’t wait for the next installments. Already the first numbers coming through on your postings are pretty, pretty cool.

I’m impressed with the write ups thus far…your posts so far have been nothing short of great.

Now that we’re in the 10K era, I am interested in seeing the Tour players putting Qi models in play and helping to drive retail sales.

It’s clearly a performer and as someone who isn’t a TM guy, I would absolutely give this a look if I were in the market.

But how many Tour players truly want a 10K MOI head?  Aside from the 14 club players who are contracted, I’m looking at the guys who play 9 or 10 club contracts who will voluntarily choose these as their best option.

I see the obvious benefit for us however will these features that are geared IMO, towards a higher handicap golfer be a deterrent to the elite ball strikers?

TM driver usage has declined recently and I believe the YouTube social media golfers are going to be bigger influencers (sorry another pun) in pushing sales.  

Just something to discuss within this testing thread…

Good range session today with the Qi10.  This driver is accurate!

My swing is still flawed.  After the winter layoff, I am coming over the top, my hands too high, and my takeaway is too inside, so I am losing distance.  And the local range here in Bonita has pretty spongy range balls.  (Enough with the excuses, Indy!)

Thanks to @GolfSpy_BEN for the tee holder recommendation!

That said, any decent swing with the Qi10 sends the ball into the imaginary fairway.

I am very impressed with the forgiveness of the Qi10.  Very.  Look at these bad swings and check out the accuracy!

 

 
After banging balls with the Qi10, I hit just a few with the Paradym TD and the Otto-Phlex shaft.  There was an immediate increase of 2-3 mph of ball speed, even with my current power leaking swing.  Of course it is too soon to reach any conclusions, but this will be interesting to track!

All data is from the MLM 2 Pro with spongy balls.

Thanks Jason!  The weather is glorious.  My swing will get better if it kills me.  The accuracy of the Qi10 is so impressive!

The 2 videos were pretty consistent shots@IndyBonzo…looks like 2 fairways hit with almost the same distance.

They really were.   And all decent swings were pretty much the same.

I will post more complete data when I get into a sim. There is no doubt the standard Qi10 is forgiving and consistent.

... Amen and spot on. The modern 460cc driver and ball just want to go straight. Really straight. Back in the day the ball spun and curved much more and the lack of perimeter weighting in driver heads allowed you to work the ball a little easier.

... That said if you have a stock shape, you go with that. I play a 3-5 yd draw pretty consistently that will sometimes just go straight but I never hit a fade. Because the ball wants to go straight and my stock shot is a draw, it takes much more effort than it is worth to hit a fade. When I did, I would turn fades into slices because I had to exaggerate keeping the face open because my natural swing is always closing the face through impact. Nelly Korda played the Stealth2 HD and currently playing the Qi10 Max because she wants t see a draw on every swing. When you play the right side, you want to see the ball moving back to the middle.

... Of course there are exceptions to the rule and if someone puts in the work and likes to work the ball both ways, that is quite an accomplishment and I tip my cap to them.

I listened to that last night.  Enjoyed it and i am seeing the samw thing as they did on High Toe misses.  Very impressive

I've recently switched to a Qi10 Max 9deg (playing at 10.5) (Tensei AV Blue Limited 65R) from a Cleveland Launcher Halo XL (Project X Cypher Fifty 6.0S).  My club head speed has increased by 6mph (now hitting consistently in the 100-101mph range- don't laugh!), ball speed has increased as well to 143-145mph range. I am hitting much more consistently nearer the center sweet spot and much less heel strikes than before.  My average carry has increased to 255yds (from 240 on the XL) and my launch angle is now also much more consistent in the 12-14degree range (I was in the 9.5 to 11 degree on the XL)  

My biggest gain from the Qi10Max has been dispersion (I had a wickedly pronounced slice!).  I am now hitting much more fairways than with the XL- now in the 70% range compared to 45% with the XL.  I am comparing apples-to-apples (Taylormade TP5 2024 on my local ION/Full Swing simulator).  Will be a solid 6-8 weeks before the start of golf here in Ottawa... will keep posting results as I go.

Others might be packaging too well based on how all these drivers were packed and all arrived flawlessly. I do like how I can buy one club from some brands and then use the box/packaging to ship a set of irons or something! Haha

This was my thought exactly. I’m almost surprised to not see the Max in more tour players bags. There must be enough distance gains with the LS or maybe the Max spins too much?

Y’all have stock shots? I’m just happy to find the fairway all jokes aside I have developed a nice cut but I think it’s more working out things in my swing that has always been a huge slice. I’ve worked on it a lot and haven’t hit big slice in a few rounds which is nice
