Byrnzee
I was able to get out this past Friday while on my bachelor party in Austin, TX for a round with some of my groomsmen. We played Shadowglen Golf Club in Manor, TX about 20-30 minutes from downtown Austin. I ended up shooting 89 (42-47) after a pretty disastrous back nine that included six double-bogeys. As some of you know, I've been working on swing changes this year and right before this trip I was trying out a new swing thought. I was hoping that it would help me be more consistent while on this trip, but it had the opposite effect. The driver was all over the place and there were some shots that I'd like to forget ever happened. Luckily the course design called for driver less often off the tee otherwise I really could've set a record for new high score. I'm hoping to get back to the range this week to try and figure out some of the kinks as well as a round or two over the weekend while I'm not watching the Ryder Cup. All in all I'm really glad I got to play with some of my best friends while down in Austin. The course was honestly a pretty good value for the price and would make a great scramble course for any bachelor parties or charity events. Unfortunately the trip ended with the airline forgetting to load my golf bag onto the plane and me panicking for about 18 hours until I was able to retrieve them from the airport earlier today with minimal damage found. Until next round! ParNone
Got out yesterday with some buddies at our local Muni, Pali Golf Course. It has been really rainy lately over here on Oahu, HI. But the day turned out really nice and sunny. So far as golf goes, let's just say we had a bunch of laughs and a bunch of yells of frustration. I played pretty badly. Started slicing a bunch off the tee. It was my first time using my new LTDx driver I had just ordered. Still need to figure that thing out. Most of my strokes were lost on the green. Almost 3 putt every hole. To my defense, it is so overgrown on the green's it is like putting on a shag carpet. I always ask myself, "why the heck do I even bother putting here!" when I play at Pali. The greens are misssssserable. Ended up shooting a 49-51 for a record 101. (Haven't shot over 100 in over a year). Highlight of the day was my buddy hitting his shot R of the cart path right under a pine tree. He had to take a sharp angle uphill to pitch it about 75 yards back into the fairway. He proceeded to blast it straight into the 6 ft tall california grass directly in front of him. I can't contain my laugh whatsoever so I tell him "reload, hit another, don't even worry about it". He reloads, blasts ball number 2 straight into the california grass again. Now at this point we are literally crying laughing so hard. (Me more so than him lol). I tell him to reload again, and 3rd times the charm, he pitches it out and back into play. We both are now on the ground crying our eyes out laughing! Absolutely Priceless! Cheers to another fun round! jbern
Walked 9 at a short, 2700 yard, par 35 course. It was the first time I've played it and it beat me up. I had one of my worst 9 hole rounds of the year at 10 over par. My good shots put me in bad spots and my bad shots were... bad. I had a tough time getting up and down so it looks like I'm going to have to make a date with the chipping practice area soon. Anyway, it was a beautiful, cloudy, 68 degree day and I was happy to be golfing. ZoonORama
Well, I was able to play again today at Kona Country Club in Hawaii. Today was WAY better than last Friday (shot a 90 - couldn’t get my driver working). Shot 40 on the front nine and 43 on the back nine (83). Very happy with that score and could have probably done at least three to four strokes better but made a few errors. I added a couple of pics - today was perfect. Sunny, low wind, and because I had recorded clubs used on a few of the par 3 earlier, did much better this time. Landed one 2” from the hole that rolled out to 2 feet. So close to dunking it. Overall, totally jazzed by this round. Won’t play another one this trip but have a few rounds lined up with @snoopy79 in mid/late October. Fish64man
Played my worst round of the year and shot a smooth 92 at a course with a par of 71 (I am a 4 handicap for reference). skraeling
Suppose I should post my last round where I did some discovery. Was just a fun round with two of my usual partners (my dad and my neighbor). Was a midweek game and we had damn near the course to ourselves. Always fun when that happens. For a laugh I cranked my 10.5* driver up to 12.5*. I loved it. Loved it so much I ordered a 12* head off eBay. But back to how the stock one played cranked. so let’s journey down this round. I didn’t practice with this setting at a driving range just trial by fire. Hole 1: Not knowing how this would react and with my miss already being left I held the face open a tad much (cranking the loft also closed the face I think 4*?). whoops it was a straight flight but pushed too far right or aimed that way too much. Reteed instead of taking a drop. Retee hit was playable…. Yay Hole 2: straight nutted. It stopped on the fairway woo! hole 3: the regular tees were way up. Sailed this thing straight into the woods on the fly. Caught me by surprise. Did find it and punched out Hole 5: usually a hole I do well on driving. Well that memo was missed. Topped this beauty. A decent layup and then fatted the wedge into the water lol (all three of us did, golf amiright?). Hole 6: good shot just caught up in heavy rough so no roll out. Buried in the trees to punch out city again. Then snap hooked my hybrid far left of the green. Putt lipped out which would have saved bogey. Hole 7: nutted again. Actually rolled off the fairway into the rough. Difficult feel shot as if you miss long it’s down the back slope into the water. I miss played and should have gone for the big fat part of the green. Last driving hole #9: whacked the **** out of it but hit a bunker. Damn. Topped my hybrid out of the sand and then dropped a dime off wedge…. Into a 10ft deep bunker. A miracle wedge out that landed 4ft from the hole to save a par. TLDR: cranked driver to 12.5* and f****** loved it. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Much better morning nine today. 46 with 2 pars, 3 doubles and 4 bogies. Two of the doubles were due to some recovery situations i got into and one was due to a three putt. Had two 3-putt holes today. Drove the ball better and hit approaches better. Realized I need to keep a slow/slow/fast tempo and really go for it at impact . Helped gain some distance on my irons that way as well (~5-7 yards). fixyurdivot
39/37 at Cimarron this morning. Started out with 4 pars, then 4 bogies, ending with a birdie. The bogies were maddening, three of them 3 putts . Only one bogey on the back. This course is closing for overseed on Sunday and they were out mowing (more like scalping) the fairways. Drives were longer than usual. My drive on 18 was 254 yards; catching the crest and taking the downslope. I've never been that far down that fairway off the tee. No wonder the pros have excessive distance issues. I'd definitely move back a tee if our fairways were always this fast. jbern
Played another 9-hole course. The course was in great shape, greens were firm and fast, fairways were soft and freshly cut, rough was lush and mildly thick. My buddy and I basically had the course to ourselves because rain was looming the entire round. I shot a two over 38 with 8 pars and one double bogey. The lowlight: The double was on a par 3 and I missed long right and on that hole you do not want to be long or right. Then I chipped it a little long and it rolled about 15 yds through the green - then another chip back towards the pin and a two putt. The highlights: I drove the ball well and had my best drive of the entire year on the 9th hole (279 yds into 10mph wind). My lag putting was solid with 5 tap-in pars (within two feet). Syks7
Got a chance to play with @GolfSpy SAM. I did not have my best game today and did my best impression of Team USA. SAM, well SAM played like Europe today. I was a lot sloppy on approach today and if I wasn't bad there I was bad off the tee. I gave myself plenty of reasonable up and down chances, but could not buy a 1-putt on the front 9. Easy cleanup, but the first one woldn't drop. The back was marginally better and I did cap off the round by going par/birdie for a grindy 44/42 86. I would have thought this reasonable last year but it feels like a lot left on the table today. Josh Parker
I played today, or at least showed up. Head was 100 different places and we as a family have a stressful week coming up. I thought getting out and playing would help clear the head and it only created issues on the course. First hole, I was 115 out and hit to front of green and 3 putted. Went on to bogey the next 3 holes before finishing out with pars the rest of the 9. I was not feeling it at all and it wasn't calming the brain down which led to mistakes after mistakes. Caught up to a group of 5 at 15 and just said the hell with it and skipped 15, 16 and 17. Played my shot from 18 at 203. Hit pin high just off the green and made par. It was one of those rounds you really just couldn't find a groove. cksurfdude, ejgaudette and MattF 2 1 Quote Paradym TD Driver w/ Ventus Blue 6S 3W MKII ZX 5's (4-6) w/ KBS Tour V MKII ZX 7's (7-PW) w/ KBS Tour V Vokey Wedges 50* 54* 58* DF2.1 Putter
Popular Post GolfSpy SAM
I recapped most of this in the VCT thread, but I'm so sorry but I need to talk about it some more, lol. So last Friday I played a round where for the first time I broke 80, and did so with five birdies. I've never done either (most birdies I've ever carded in one round is two), and I've lived on the memory of that round all week. And then today happened. I started with a double, and then a par, and jokingly said to @Syks7, "now that I've doubled the first, I'll probably play great." Apparently my subconscious was listening. +5 thru 9, which wasn't great, but I was striking the ball pretty well, and left 3 birdie putts short by a few inches each, so I was giving myself some looks. And then the back 9: rattled off 5 straight pars, and then hit a beebee with my Caley 3-iron (driving iron) to the back of the green, on a 211-yard par-3. Left the 50' putt about 8' short (not a great effort), and then had the par-putt do a full 200° turn around the hole and settle 2" from the hole. Ouch. On the next (16th), I made a 40' putt, which somehow felt like karma making it back up to me. I made a (for me) ridiculous sand save on 17 to keep me at even on the back, and then got a nice gift on my drive on the par-5 18th: hit a cart path (presumably) and it rolled it to 321 yards, leaving me 189 in. I nutted a 6-iron to about 12(ish) feet, and then drained the eagle putt for my first ever eagle, and my first ever 9 under par. It was... Crazy. I was shaking like I'd just won an award or something, lol. Anyway, finished the 18 with a +3, 75. Still kind of can't believe it was real, except @Syks7 (I made him, btw, because I wanted it recorded JUST in case I finally made one) recorded it for me. So here it is: my moment of Zen. (I start walking not because I was "walking out in," mind you, but because I thought I'd over-read another putt and was going to walk over and tap it in, lol. Sounds like you need the cameras on more often! Maybe we bring a recording team to Bandon to capture the magic. Congratulations on having so many personal bests Matt! I love that you got you're first eagle on camera and love the reaction. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Posted in VCT for my combined nines. Today was icing on the cake as I shot a 44. Was a few putts away from really going low and one bad hole as well where I mistruck my driver OB. Short game and approach play was really good. Had my first mishit with the Caley that I pushed into another fairway but still had good distance. Hit a hell of a 7i to try and give myself birdie. Sadly misread the downhill putt and three putted. Need to remember on putts like that to just try to get it to stop close. On the hole prior just missed a 12’ for birdie after a beautiful baby draw off the tee with my nine iron. Overall a beautiful morning and a fun round of golf. fixyurdivot, BallsLeon, cnosil and 5 others 5 3 Quote Follow my journey to enjoying golf and going low Driver: Epic Max LS TD Cat 4 70g (back up Ventus Black 6x 44.5" ) 3wHL: Rogue ST LS 75x Tensei AV Blue w/ xlink 7w: Apex UW 21* MMT 80S DI: Caley 01X 18* with PGH Stiff plus 95g 4-AW: 0211 with Tour Stiff 2.5* up 3/4" long, Soft stepped, MOI matched Wedges Zipcore Putter:Directed Force 2.1 69*/35" in blue Ball: Prime 4.0 Shot Tracking: Bag: Vessel VLX 2.0 Grip: Lamkin Sonar + Midsize Glove: My Reviews: Caley 01X Driving Iron Review 2023 Max Swing Speed Training and Speed Progress: Current Speed 120 in the MGS Speed Challenge (updated 3/15/23) TAIII #2 Review here: TAIII Impact #2 Putter ) Zipcore Tour Rack 54/full and 58/mid (review here) 0211 2019 Unofficial Review
BallsLeon
Broke 90 this morning, but it was on a par 63 course. Cheapest tee time on GolfNow, and honestly wasn’t that bad. Played from the blues today cause it lined up with my handicap. Had a great run holes 13-15, all par 3s, with par/par/birdie. Only 35 putts on the day which I’ll certainly take, greens felt awfully slow today. fixyurdivot
37/41 at Cimarron this morning. Three 3 putts on the back including a DB finish on the par 5 #18. Third shot rolled into a greenside trap, downhill lie , short-sided, and on wet packed sand (damn sprinklers). Thought about trying to putt it out, fairly flat edge, and probably should have as I dunked it into the lake on the other side .
