DiscipleofPenick
Played at home this morning only moved up to the whites, playing with sober older guys who are also regulars. Double bogey on the opening 305 yard par 4 ( hit hybrid instead of driver and stuck under a tree) but then kick in birdies on #4 & #5 righted me. Missed a short bird on #9 but even par. Back 9 things got away from me a little bit with balls in the hazards on #15 & #16, shot 41 but rallied to par last two and another short birdie miss on 18. Popular Post fozcycle
Played Pebble Creek GC today. I shot 40/45:85 with 2 birdies, #8 & #10. I lost my 2nd shot in hazard on Par 5 #8. Curtis Atkinson
Got out on this warm afternoon for a round with a buddy. Guy I play with the most who started playing around the same time and most similar game. First time I think we've both shot in the 80's during the same round with him shooting a best of 84 and me one off my best round with an 86 43/43 = 86 (+16) 1/14 FIR (7%) 7/18 GIR (39%) 36 putts (3 3-putts, 12 2-putts, 3 1-putts) Highlight: On the last hole I was left of the fairway just up against the outside edge of some trees and decided rather than punching out to try to open up my club face and fade (slice) a PW up and over and ended up just off the front. Highlight was probably my buddy's 3 hole birdie streak which all included birdie putts over 10 feet. As a then 16 handicap I birdied 15, got up and down out of the left bunker for par on 16, parred 17 from right of the green, and parred 18 from the rough by the fairway bunkers on the right. So, one under par over the last 4 holes. I don't remember any of the other holes on the course, but I will always remember those 4 holes. Oh... and the round cost $52. Yeah I totally skunked 16 and pulled it left. I would have been boo'd and probably had a drink poured on my while chipping. It's super cool though to imagine the stadium stands and put yourself in that moment. 17 however, I was the only 1 of 4 who drove the green. I put it about 3' on the front right corner. Missed a 12' putt for Eagle but put it within 1' to drop a birdie. Driving the green for birdie totally made up for 16. cksurfdude, CarlH, sirchunksalot and 3 others 6 Quote PXG 0311 Gen 5 9°/ Fujikura MotoreX F1 6X F6 3 Wood 14* / Kuro Kage Silver 65X F8 6 wood 20* / Fujikura MotoreX F3 6S RADSpeed Hybrid 24* TS1 4-GW / FCM Precision 6.5 Rifle TSW Wedge - 56/12 EAS 1.0 / Grip master 2.0 MAXFLI Tour CG
Popular Post edingc
Busy holiday weekend with golf! Walked 18 on Friday, Sunday, Monday and this morning and also managed to get out for two seven-hole practice rounds with the wife. My legs are feeling it - I figure I've walked about 50 miles in the last week on the golf course. Playing really well, sometimes the scores just aren't following. I'm hitting the ball wonderfully and having a blast so that's all that really matters: Friday: 42/38 = 80 Sunday: 40/37 = 77 Monday: 37/43 = 80 (Bummed on this one - took a triple on No. 17 after hitting my drive OB left!) Tuesday: 44/38 = 82 One of these rounds I'm going to go low on both the front and back and have a really nice score for me. So close! I mentioned over in the "What are you practicing thread?" that the 60/60/100 drill from Chris Ryan has been a huge help for my ball striking. I'm starting to see some better distance out of my irons and especially with my hybrid and driver from the tee. Now, just to keep the driver in play more often... Popular Post Wolverine784
Finally decompressed (and dried out) from the 12 man golf trip to Northern Michigan at the end of June. I won't bore you with all the details but wanted to share a few highlights and help anyone out that might be thinking of golfing up in Petoskey. Friday - Was fortunate that the rain storm let up enough to play Blythefield CC (home of the LPGA Meijer Classic). All of their improvements put in over the last year paid dividends and there were only a few holes were finding a dry place to hit from was difficult. Great track to walk and very appreciative of my rain gloves so I could shoot a mid 80s round that I will take given the conditions. Saturday - Crooked Tree - Rain, Rain, Rain. Probably the worst conditions I have ever been a part of. I stopped tracking my round half way through b/c the conditions were a bit comical at times. We made it thanks to some decent drainage and lots of gear but next time, I will quit when it gets to that point of saturation. The best stat of the day was it took 2 days by a fireplace to dry my shoes. Sunday - Bay Harbor (Preserve/Links) - This course is one of the nicest and most picturesque I have played. Some holes had me feeling like I was back at Bandon Dunes. Definitely a learning curve on some holes on where and what you can hit to be safe but whenever I had a bad shot, there was a view of the lake to calm me down. Putting woes continued as the greens dried out and speed was an issue but I will take the 85 and money I won. Monday - Bay Harbor (Links/Quarry) - Another magical round with views that are hard to top. If I was going to play one of the 9s twice, Links would be my pick and I did 4 shots better with some course knowledge (and a driver that didn't flare to the right). More consistent green speed helped as well thanks to no rain for a couple days. If you golf in northern Michigan (and you don't mind splurging a bit) play Bay Harbor a couple times to get in all of the 9s but if you can only do one 18, make it the Links/Quarry. Managed an 83 and a few dollars in my pocket thanks to a skin, CTP, and some of my trip mates having some blow up holes. Tuesday - Boyne Monument - The last day is always a tough one as the consumption leaks from your pores but besides a woeful first and last hole, this was by far my best round on the trip. The course is carved through a forest for much of the 18 but the greens are what made it tough. Quickest and most severe of the trip but my speed issues were cured a bit since I was leaving everything short the other days. The 83 was good enough for 4th in our secret partner calcutta and secured my positive winnings for the weekend. I always forget about Boyne when planning an up north get away but I won't sleep on it in the future. Great golf, fair accommodations, and some views that are second to none. Popular Post Berg Ryman
An 82 this weekend in my skins game, 40-42. Plus 5 each side. Highlight of the round, fewest putts I've taken this year with 30, but a late round hiccup (double, triple on a water ball) cost me that 70's round I know was coming. Also had a chip in for eagle on our short par 4, little bump and run 8 iron... perfect speed, won me a skin of $4 dollars. I also played the round with the Srixon Q Star Yellow Divide in Blue and Yellow. Here's my review of the ball, played like a Q Star Tour, maybe not as grabby on the pitch shots as I thought with the urethane matte cover, but I'm comparing it to a ball like the Pro V1X. I enjoy using the Divide to putt and chip as the blue and yellow is very striking visually for the short game stuff. However, and this won't be a surprise, hard to find if it's primarily blue facing up in the fairway or rough. Heck, I hit a shot onto a green that was blue side up and I didn't see it until I was like 5 feet away from it. So the Divide? It's a decent ball for casual play, or even some competitive play, but get it in red/yellow or orange/yellow if you plan on playing. If you're looking to practice, I'd say go for the blue/yellow over the other colors. cnosil, GolfSpy_SHARK, sirchunksalot and 8 others 11 Quote In a Hoofer Lite bag TSR2, 10 degrees, A1 setting, Fujikara Speeder NX Blue 50-S Stealth, 15 degrees, VA Composites Nemesys 70-S E722, 19 degrees, Oban Devotion 80-S JPX 921 Hot Metal Pro 4-P, Nippon 950GH Stiff Flex CBX Zipcore 50* (bent to *49) and RTX Zipcore Tour Rack 54* (bent to *55), DG 115 Spinner, Tour Issue Staff Model TG 60*, Dynamic Gold 120 S300 SIK Golf Flo-C Tour B-XS (2022 Model)
M. Parsons
Los Altos - ABQ, NM 43/44-87, 15/19-34putts (4,3-putts) 4/14 fairways, 4/18 greens, 8-pars, 5-bogeys, 5-doubles Played a 5-club challenge yesterday and used my 3W, 5-iron, 9-iron, 54* and putter. I would've liked for the putter to stay alive like it was on the front, but it just didn't happen. One of those doubles came from hitting my tee shot OB on a par-5, so I had to hit 3 from the tee box...got on in 2 from there and 3-putted. I played with a bunch of guys...4 tee times in all, and we did a low net 3 score for skins. Basically you add up the 3 lowest net scores for each hole from your foursome, and if it's the lowest score your foursome gets the skin. Edited July 6, 2021 by M. Dealing with 60-80% humidity and higher growing up in the south and living just miles away from Lake Michigan, it can get very uncomfortable in the low 90's and 100 is just crazy hot. Had my first day of dripping sweat here in Phoenix last week and was shocked to find out the humidity was 28%?!? Seems 4-9% humidity in the desert is more the normal and of course I sweat, but it dries before forming on my skin. Even 18% humidity gets a little sweaty. So 110* with 4-8% humidity isn't bad at all while 105 with 28% borders on too hot to play. Just through some might find this interesting as it has been a real learning weather experience for me. That said, I would still trade 115* and 28% humidity with sunshine and greenery for wind chills below zero, snow covered ground, with barren trees and no sunshine for up to 30 days in Chicago. I hear you! Still 102 and 16% humidity today. I've lived here for 51 years and I've gotten used to the dry heat in the summer. The nice thing is that most years I can play golf every day in the winter. Sure, it's cold but usually not much precipitation. I grew up on the wet side of Oregon, and if I were still there, I likely would not have taken up golf, as I hate slogging in the rain. Rickp, M. I have only walked off a golf course twice due to the heat. Many years ago playing in Myrtle Beach the temp hit 102 with about 90% humidity and not a hind of a breeze. I was playing alone and a ranger came around when I was on 12 and said they were closing the course due to the heat and I was the only one left on it LOL. They said just place the cart key in the slot at the shed and leave the cart parked there. I played 2 more holes and decided enough was enough and got there just as the last guy was leaving so gave him the key and went back to the ocean and could not jump in with my kids fast enough. Similar scenario in Chicago, 105* and very high humidity and the course was pretty empty so I flew around til hole #13 when I caught 2 foursomes so I just kept driving to the clubhouse. Kenny B
OK, not me... I stayed home today. However, my wife played in a Ladies Golf Outing at our only private club in town... Meadow Springs Country Club. She wasn't going to play in this event, but one of the ladies from our club had surgery and the entry fee was paid. The Course: The 18-hole "Meadow Springs" course at the Meadow Springs Country Club facility in Richland, Washington features 6,957 yards of golf from the longest tees for a par of 72. The course rating is 73.3 and it has a slope rating of 132 on Rye grass. Designed by Robert Muir Graves, ASGCA, the Meadow Springs golf course opened in 1971. This course used to host a Korn Ferry Tour event each year for many years backed up to the Albertson's Boise Open. This ladies event had 82 entrants. My wife was the low gross of the ladies from our Columbia Point GC with an 88 and a net 71. Course rating/slope from the Forward tees is 69.2/120. The low net was 66 by a member of Meadow Springs... duh!! My wife has been trending in the right direction ever since her lesson with Monte in March. edingc, cksurfdude, Rickp and 6 others 8 1 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”
CarlH
Kind of a "meh" day. 40 on the front (started off with a double on the opening hole) and 41 on the back (again with an opening double). I was striking the ball okay, but my partial shots felt jerky and wasn't making crisp contact, flubbing several pitches. No birdies, despite having several opportunities. Played before the high heat hit. Think it was about 95 when we finished about 1:30. Sluggo42
I’m telling ya, Evan (my evnroll er3) is scared silly about the Edel fitting on Thursday, and doing his best to stay the main dog in my bag. I had 8 birdies today, (6 on the back 9) and others were close. 28 putts, but unfortunately didn’t score very well overall considering how it could have been a PB had I not had 7 bogies as well…. Just in the last 12 months it's blown up by about 30% and shot our budget all to hell. According to a buddy in the area, the techies from up north flooded the area once they could start working from home and wanted to escape the rat race.. so that jacked up the market. Weather there is slightly cooler but it's golf/outdoor season all year round. It's a hefty price to pay for physical and mental health but worth every penny if one can afford it. Personally 110 is the absolute max that I can handle with dry heat. Anything more than that, I'm staying home. Phx/Desert golf in mid summer is definitely its own animal for sure and shouldn't be done without preparation. Here are the 3 things that I find I can't live without (Stu's Desert Golf Survival Kit) This is a 1 gallon double walled water jug. $25-$30 at Walmart. That's insanely cheap for a 1 gallon jug and the thing's a beast! I'll drink one of these + 2 - 32 oz bottles of Body Armor in a round. Electrolytes.. and more specifically, these Trace Mineral drops. The bottle's kind of pricy but these are a lifesaver for me as I have a tendency to get pretty gnarly cramps after spending too much time in the high heat. I take these as a daily supplement in my water and they are far better than any electrolyte drink IMO. I'll hydrate the day before and also add about 50 drops to my gallon of water. The bottles lasts a good while so it's also worth the price. Lastly, another life saver is the Chilly Pad by Frog Toggs. This is probably the best cooling towel that I've found. If you have a cart with an ice chest, just keep it in there in between uses and it's like air conditioning when you use it. Even without ice, it holds about 15* cooler temp than the air and that's a decent enough of a difference when you need it.
