Tom the Golf Nut
My 22 year old son sports that look. usually black Nike crew socks. However that is not for me. I wear ankle length short socks with shorts. Unless a doctor tells me that I need to wear compression socks I’m sticking with ankle length. I’m not a fan of no show socks either. They seem to always slide down into the shoe or part of the shoe that extends past the sock line rubs my skin. That’s a bad thing. Blisters are not welcome. sirchunksalot
I seriously considered showing up to the round at Royal New Kent wearing shorts and my argyle knee high compression socks, but figured they might kick me off the course. I fortunately found some shorter compressions that I'll be wearing during the trip since the reason I wear them is my ankle. As far as the OP's original question, I have no problem with anyone wearing long socks if that's what they like. I think the most important thing is they have a respect for the course and the game. TK_
If you’re there to pickup women, this probably isn’t the look. Most likely going to leave you with some wicked tan lines too. Rob Person
It's not the look for me, but to each their own. It doesn't affect my game. Siamese Moose
Fashion comes and goes, and I mostly ignore it. I've been using 4-5" socks (ankle or slightly higher) for as long as I can remember, but current fashion (not neccesarily golf fashion) is for higher, 8-10" socks. I think it's coming from other sports, running, cycling, triathlon, where higher socks have been proven to have a measurable aerodynamic advantage. Once the look is normalized for athletes, it trickles down to mainstream. bellken, Rob Person and Northern Monkey 3 Quote Moose, my cat, is Siamese

Bossfan
I don’t really care. If I’m playing an early morning round I tend to wear whatever socks I wore the day before. I agree with @Tom the Golf Nut, the crew socks aren't for me. I used to wear ankle socks, with many of the new style shoes, the ankle socks slide down the back of the heel. So I started wearing the low-cut/ 1/4 socks and love them. Although, the tan line is now much higher, LOL. 99% of the time I wear white socks, but I do like black 1/4 socks with shorts.
