How is your grip strength through the bag?  Do you use a stronger grip on the long sticks and a weaker grip on shorter sticks?

I've been tinkering with a weaker grip on 9i through AW as part of trying to reduce dispersion.  Having moved to a much stronger grip following a Monte Scheinblum swing video analysis and lessons locally in 2022, it has really helped remove the weak fade and right side of the course. I pretty much try and repeat that same grip position through the bag... at least full or near full swing shots but find I have a tendency to pull approach shots left and started wondering if the strong grip was part of the issue?

Is grip position something you consciously adjust in your set-up?

@fixyurdivot I’m still focused on a consistent setup and swing! Hoping someday to get to working on a controlled fade / draw. I don’t think I have the mental capacity to add grip strength to my setup. Haha

I use the same grip through the bag. The only exception might be with chipping/pitching but even then it’s rare to adjust my grip.

Same grip all the way through for me as well, save for if I take a putting grip if I'm chipping greenside.

I guess different is the answer I should pick?   For full swing clubs it is the same;  for short game it is weaker sometimes and sometimes a putter grip;  putter has its own grip.

Both Monte and an instructor at my club have told me almost the same things about my grip...

1. use a much firmer pressure than you think you should (both debunked the old bird in the hand thing);

2. use a very consistent pressure throughout the entire swing.

For me, I like firmer with full swing clubs .. and putting .. and try to keep what I think is a neutral grip; otoh slightly softer pressure with wedges .. plus depending on what specialty wedge shot I'm trying (emphasized 😉) to accomplish my grip may be stronger or weaker to set the face angle.

I use a stronger grip on 8i thru driver and a weaker grip on 9 - wedges.  I had to weaken the grip on thise clubs to avoid a heavy draw.  I can hit those shorter clubs much straighter with the weaker grip.

For all full swing and partial swings the grip is the same throughout the bag. The grip changes for chips

An interesting not that comes up in lots of threads about changing grips for certain clubs.

Weakening grip to fix a draw is a common misperception for what needs to change just like strengthening a grip is to fix a slice

Had an high level instructor tell me that the person who had me weaken my grip because of my draws and pulls was giving bad advice. The issue was my swing and how I come to far from the inside.

Interesting thing is this came up recently in a thread on wrx and Monte confirmed the samething about it being typical and incorrect things  people do to fix draws.

I use the same grip strength throughout the bag because it creates consistency with all of my swings and removes some "moving parts" that could cause poor shots. Switching the strengths as a fix for your miss-hits just feels like you're addressing the symptoms (bad shots) and not the problem (a "bad" swing).

I've chosen a grip strength that gives me the most control, flexibility, and power in my swing that I'm comfortable with. I've tried switching up the grips on a per-shot basis in the past, just to see if it would help, but I ended up getting in my head too much thinking stuff like "that grip was not weak enough" or "that was way to strong, that's why I hit a bad shot." This variability had me thinking too much about the grip and not enough on the shot I was hitting.

Same grip and pressure throughout bag. Switched to MCC Plus4 grips a few years ago and it helped me not grip so hard which in turn freed up my swing.

I use the same grip throughout the bag, but the same with others when it comes to chipping.

Recently when testing a club at Golf Galaxy I was paying attention to the club and path info on the trackman. As someone above stated, sometimes your hook or slice may not at all be about the club face but could be the path.

Seems to me it would be better to keep grip the same throughout every club and then work on ball placement and path for shot shaping.
