It was a great day for vacation golf. The humidity was awful and the overnight rain made the course feel like a sponge but every day is a good day for golf. Course played very short today but the greens were miserably slow causing a lot of near misses. Can't complain about a round with 3 birdies but this one had the vibe where it could have been a new personal best. Still, I beat my son heads up and my brother in law and son played against me in a best ball format and I managed to beat that too 73-75. Match play I beat them 1 up. Now it's time to sit back and enjoy a lake beer. Or three.IMG_1503.jpeg.2ecdf98d737eadc38828666fa7fb8fb2.jpeg

9 hole round

CR/CS = 66.4/110

I played amazing this evening. This is a personal best. I parred 2 holes, bogeyed 1, and double bogeys on all the rest. No penalties and no blow up holes. Plenty of areas for continued improvement. Keep building on the progress, gaining consistency, and reducing mistakes.

Happy 4th of July everyone! Good ball striking day. Hit 8 fairways, 14 greens and had 32 putts. The greens were not cut because they let the staff off so, they were extremely slow and bumpy. However, had 1 double off a poor tee shot and 2 bogeys. This was offset by 4 birdies. Many lip outs today. Played the Blue Tees with slope of 123 and rating of 69.1.

Play like a champion today!

Played with my normal group today and played quarter skins.  Had a really great front 9.  The bogey on 4 was an odd hosel rocket 2nd shot and then the 3rd I stuck it to 8ft and left the par putt an inch short.  The back nine was solid and the bogeys, I can't be mad at as they were simple mistakes.  11 - I hit a tree branch that overhangs the fairway and had to pitch up around the bend and then made a great bogey putt.  12 and 18 are tough par 3's and I didn't hit the green and ended up 2 putting.

Super happy with the mini driver and it has currently replaced the spot of the driver in the bag.

Sorry @GolfSpy SAM for the lack of photos and quality recap.  It's over 100 degrees and I'm feeling it after being out there all afternoon!

35.2/128 with one birdie.

Originally was going to play 18, but it was so hot and the group in front of me was so slow, aborted after nine. That nine took 2 hours and 40 minutes.

Today began with Mark throwing down the gauntlet saying we were going to get smoked. I don't think that two strokes is smoked but a loss is a loss just the same. A chip-in birdie on number 12 from about 40' with a 9 iron was a high point of the day

Ugh, got hot today.  Also stiffish.  Also started drinking way too early.  Someone my age should have learned by now.  But, it's good training for Sunday's round.  91°F today, 101°F forecast for Sunday.

Didn't do my best, or my worst.  Slow play and a rowdy couple that we joined up with on the 7th hole let me lose a bit of focus.  Also, trying new swing feels on the course usually doesn't help, so not feeling terrible about the outcome.  Once I learned how to straighten out with more lag I was hitting 15-20 yards further.  Three whiffs on tee shots don't do a score justice, and my overcorrected pull put my FIR down a bit from last round.  Broke 15 putts on the back 9, so was a great putting day.  Had four barely missed putts from 30+ feet, so short game needs some work.  Still a good average round for myself on this course.

Yesterday, I had one of my "average" rounds.

Here's today's round (left) and for so far in 2024 (right):

image.png.bdf0f4f85cc175b5a04b8188df15f3ed.png  image.png.f4e58bc9b3f906feeea1836a155067b8.png

I shot one more stroke than my handicap and all the other metrics were just about average so far this year.

Two shots that stood out in my "average" round.  Our number one rated hole is a long-ish par 4 with OB on the left, water all the way down the driving area and a lined trees/mangroves that creates a squeeze for the second shot.  For me, I typically play it as a par 5 feeling good walking off with a bogie.  Yesterday I hit a decent drive, a marginal second and was in the right rough hitting to a really tough back-left pin placement.  As I walked up to the 90 yard shot I remembered that a few months prior I had holed out from about the same place for birdie.  I stepped up with my approach wedge and stuck it 2 feet away from the pin.  I guess it's the power of approaching a shot with a positive attitude.

Second was on our par 4 fifteenth hole.  I was in front in three after coming up short on my approach.  Somehow, I knew I was going to make the chip shot and didn't even bring my putter.  Sure enough, I holed out the chip for par.

Besides the two good shots described above, my play was very consistent:  pars and bogies.  On several holes where I was starring a double in the face, I made a good recovery shot and putt to save a bogey.   I often think that those types of recovery are just as valuable as scrambling for pars.

I can't wait to see what Saturday brings!

Javs, very nice round. Well done.

Josh, very nice round and in 100 degree plus weather.  Well done.

Appreciate it, but this was a test post. The developer has made the requested changes to the inputs and leaderboard, so moving forward it should clear up some apprehension regarding course handicaps. Since they are no longer an input, they should no longer cause the members heartburn 😁

Pretty good round despite the heat and wind. The front was a little rough but I survived. The back was phenomenal and started with a 315 yard drive up the hill that landed on the green about 15 feet from the pin. I picked up another birdie on 15 with a 50 yard pitch that stopped about a foot from the hole! The big achievement on the back was only missing 1 GIR! I got a little handsy on a par 3 and it happened to be one of the more firm greens so it went of a few feet. The only real issue I had was figuring out the green speeds. Surrey is in a transitional phase and some greens are hard and fast while others are a little softer and much slower.

Good Catch!

a note has been sent to the developer to get this corrected, but it looks like the system is rounding up or down based on the number. Should be an easy fix.

As long as the par for the course is 70, everything is fine. We have moved away from the use of course handicap and net scores, so your gross score to par, is what should be showing.
