Tinnitus

Recommended Posts

I'm two months into Tinnitus aka ringing in the ears. It came out of no where, but, hearing loss (Sr Golfer) seems to be the culprit. Anyone have success reducing or eliminating it? There aren't too many success stories out there. Most say try to tune it out. It's pretty depressing. Also, if anything golf is a great distraction. My wife says nothing seems to hurt you while playing golf.

I suffer from tinnitus as well, and I found that once a year going in and getting an ear Irrigation really helps. Now it's very un- comfortable and Takes a while to recover, maybe an hour, but afterwards, I feel it helps alot

I have it very bad too.  The loud ringing is constant in both ears and can keep me awake on real bad nights.  I have not found anything that helps yet but i am willing to try more golf!

I tinnitus and hearing loss also. The only thing I've found to help with tinnitus is hearing aids.  If I don't wear the aids the tinnitus gets so bad I want to scream and wearing the aids helps tremendously.

Fortunately I get aids from the VA.

Do the hearing aids help immediately or it takes some time? My T is from hearing loss.

I've had it bad for decades, my fault for being a drummer in very loud bands with zero hearing protection as a kid. I've found that the more hydrated I am, the less the ringing is. When I'm dehydrated, it definitely gets louder and more annoying.

I've worn aids for a while now and I don't remember the sequence when I first started wearing them and everything was new and different, but pretty much immediately, if I remember correctly.  These days I don't always put my aids in when I get up in the mornings and the tinnitus will get louder and and louder and very annoying. And when I do put the aids in the tinnitus goes away immediately.

Hearing aids help a lot, within 10 or 15 seconds.  The brain is straining to find the missing high frequencies that is the most common hearing loss.  Feeding the brain with hearing aids that boost hi freq. is a big help.  My Widex Moment aids cost me $6,000 and are worth every penny.  A good audiologist will let you try an aid for a few weeks, until you find one that works for you.  The Moment has long warranty, comes with a battery recharger.

Also, I take a tri-cyclic anti depressant, nortriptyline.  It rebalances the brain electro/chem makeup , reduces the number of brain cells that are misfunctioning.  Nortrip is prescription.  It has common side effects: dry mouth and dry/slow digestion tract speed, tired/fatigue.  I got over the side effects within a few weeks.  It cuts my noise in half.  Some ENT docs no longer prescribe it due to the side effects.  I suggest anybody should talk to your doc and give it a try.  I was up to 75 mg a day, functioned about 80-90% of normal.  Now, on my 2nd set of hearing aids, I am down to 20 to 30 mg of nortrip.  Talk to your doc and I repeat, try nortrip, start at 25 mg, within a half hour you could notice some lower noise.  I now function normally but I have to avoid loud places.  Sometimes my noise goes way way low.

Overall health helps, hydration, exercise.  Avoid silence, it drives your brain crazy.  Radio, tv, music, chirping birds, gurgling water, podcast, whatever you prefer.  I listen to music very quiet at night, no problem.  Turn on the TV in the morning, low volume if I don't even pay attention, tune in the golf channel if nothing else just to feed your brain some sounds.

There are tinnitus support groups, many have monthly zoom meetings.  ATA.org.

Keeping yourself occupied is also key.  Washing dishes, or playing golf, anything in between that keeps your mind involved.  The happier you are, the less stress on your neurology in your brain.

Tinnitus can drive you up the wall. I’ve had my fair share of those ringing ears, and it’s no picnic! If you’re looking for help, I’d recommend checking out an ent specialist singapore. They know their stuff when it comes to tinnitus. I went to one last year, and they took the time to explain everything to me.They even suggested some coping strategies that made a world of difference. Finding someone who understands what you’re dealing with is essential, so don’t hesitate to reach out. Remember, you’re not alone in this. There are ways to manage it, and you can find relief. Just take it one day at a time, and hang in there!
