Here's The Steve Gleason Bit That Got Three Atlanta Radio Hosts Fired

Today, former Saint Steve Gleason guested on SI's MMQB—no mean feat since he's in the later stages of ALS. He types using a program that tracks movements of his eyes, and his 4,500-word column took him four hours to compose. Around the same time the column was published, an Atlanta sports talk radio show did an entire segment, based on the premise that his computerized "voice" is hilarious. It was really, really bad.

This morning, 790 The Zone's Mayhem in the AM did a bit where hosts Steak Shapiro and Chris Dimino interviewed "Steve Gleason," played by co-host Nick Cellini. Outrage immediately spread, largely thanks to the Tiger Droppings board. But no one could find the audio, until New Orleans station The Ticket aired it this afternoon. Here's the segment:

I have not heard about this and it is old news now, but I thought, before listening to the segment, that this would be a case of someone over reacting. Wrong. This was seriously bad taste and not even funny to boot. I just sat here and got pissed off about it.

What the hell, why does work and life always interfere with me playing golf!!!

To steal a line from Jase of the Duck Dynasty, "If you are too busy to" play golf, "You are just too busy."

My wife bitched about me playing golf every time I went for 3 years. Solution? I now have a different wife that does not mind.

Interesting solution, my hopes lie in my daughter and son wanting to play~!

That was not really the solution, just as golf was not really the problem, but it makes a much better story.

Same here, I'm really pushing first tee and hoping to steer them away from tball, soccer, cheer leading, and whatever else my wife might wanna get them involved in. If they choose the other sports I'll be happy to coach and such but man do I want them to pick golf!

My last day at work is Sept 20th, which should eliminate most of the time I waste being away from the golf course, AND I got the tire replaced on my wife's lawn mower, too!

I should be able to focus on important golf stuff, without TOO many distractions, in a few more weeks! B)

I would never ever talk to someone about their own children, and Dude, you know what I think of you as a person.

A lot!!

The only thing that I will say is that unless a physical/medical condition would make it unsafe for a child to participate in a particular sport, I would encourage them to follow their interests and curiosity into whatever sport/activity that it takes them.

A lot of those team sports/activities teach a child much more than individual athletic skills. I believe that the group interaction and team concept that is taught/coached is very important in "rounding" a person out and hopefully showing them that there are times in life where the other person or a teammate/team must come before themselves, not to mention the lessons learned from competing in a team format vs. an individual sport such as golf and tennis.

And what I notice with a lot of these children who's parents are hoping that their child is the next Paula, Stacy or Ricky or Rory(forget about Tiger, just get it out of your mind right now, lol) is that the parents sacrifice, whether it be time, money or most likely a combination of both, and while the child does "sacrifice" in that they must practice & play, in their small circle, the sun rises & sets on their asses.

While they might appreciate the sacrifices that their parents/family make, with all others in the outside world, who may not and probably won't treat them as though the sun rises & sets on their asses, they have a sense of entitlement, especially if they are one of the 1-2% athletically.

And I love the game. My favorite sport, even when I was playing football. I just think that children should be encouraged to go where their curiosity and desires take them, whether it be soccer, baseball, cheer leading or golf or tennis, or maybe it's not a sport, maybe it's art or the piano or guitar.

I dated a cheer leader in college and she was on scholarship just as I was, and as she was from "out of state," she saved her parents over $100,000 over four years.

And the most important thing is that as classy as you are as a person, I have no doubt that your children will carry these same traits & behaviors with them, regardless of the field/course that they step on.

And, that's the most important thing :)

I was half kidding with that but see what you are saying and totally agree with you. Truth is though we gave tried soccer, baseball, and Tae Kwon Do with Jake and he doesn't get excited about any of them yet. Granted, he is 5 and may get into them as it goes but it just isn't happening yet. I am asst coach for his tball team and he doesn't even want to be there most of the time. I will never push the kids to do a certain thing and I will support whatever they choose for sure. I just kind of hope golf is high on that priority list because that will always be something we can do together. Zoey may get into cheerleading as she likes gymnastics. If I had my choice I would love it if he wanted to play baseball and wrestle as well. I was a baseball fanatic by the time I was 7 so I guess we still have time to get him hooked. Plus I actually know a little about golf so I feel like I can help them more in that area. And by the way, no chance of a Tiger or Rory coming from this DNA. I'm more of a KJ Choi build minus the swing and talent. Lol

I think I had a few of those double posts myself mine were due to that antique computer I had and my low blood sugar issues. Got sugar under control and got a new Dell Windows 8. This Windows 8 is touchy though kinda like getting out of a big truck with no power steering and getting into a Vette ----- Touchy!
