    How'd you play?

I joined @mr.hicksta is the foolish wind conditions and off/on downpours. 8/14 FiR 7/18 GiR (missed 7 of them short because every hole was somehow into the wind) 36 Putts -- I can't pay the ball to go into the hole right now Jarred one from 33y today only for it to bounce out. Couldn't tell if it actually dunked, or if it landed an inch before the cup and ricocheted off the pin . Actually nearly did the same thing on that hole last time we played when chipping from just off the green, had a little too much heat on it and it bounced off the stick.

  3. I can never ever recall anything getting out of hand with the members in all the years I have been here. There was one incident involving a member and Adam but it was sorta private. The older members know about that and we will leave it at that and let sleeping dogs lie--- But it really never got real public--- I kinda got caught in the middle because he is a friend of mine but Adam did take the time to PM me and explain because I had only one side of the story and was going to leave here. Glad he took the time and interest to inform me and I am still here

    How'd you play?

I was absolutely embarrassed by the elements today. Sustained 20+ MPH winds, with 40+ MPH gusts and occasional rain made for a very frustrating day. 99 (48/51, 98 ESC) FIR 4/14 (29%) GIR 4/18 (22%) 35 putts As usual there were some positives, but it was just exhausting to be on the course today. I can't help but be a little down about it, but all I can do is keep learning from the crap rounds while chasing my golf goals.

    How'd you play?

1st day of posting, even though I don't post in GHIN anymore. I'm still keeping track of stats in The Grint My shoulders and arms are still sore from tree pruning. Couldn't hit my driver until #5 and missed a lot of greens. Shot 85 with 0 birdies and 3 doubles. 9/13 fairways 7/18 greens 30 putts... 7 one-putts.

79 today with 2 birdies and one double bogey. Wedge wasn't my best friend today -- left several short of my mark. First posting day for us here.

Even 71 today, 3 birdies. Narrowly missed 3-4 others. Could have gone really low with a few more putts dropping. im thinking that the Hogans are giving me little breaks that the old blades wouldnt. Seems I couldnt miss today... so fun, but was over so quickly...

  12. Turns out, I was an anniversary add to the forum: I joined on this date four years ago! Perhaps as a sign of things to come: my very first post was in the forum feedback section, requesting that someone fix a typo Then I went through the typical "only try to win 'contests'" phase. But a couple years ago, I dove in by posting about my basement putting green, and I've been a regular here ever since. When the opportunity came up to contribute by being a moderator, I jumped at the chance, and I love working with the rest of our team to keep improving what we've got here without ever compromising the spirit of the community that already makes the Forum great. As @GolfSpy_X says the blog column, our forum is almost entirely self-policing. On the one hand, that gives the moderator role here something of a Maytag repairman vibe. But really, it frees us up to expand and enrich the best golf forum in the world.

  13. ... What a start to 2020. The herniated disc I suffered thru in December set my entire season back. Thankfully some serious PT has me finally back on track but some family issues pushed my winter in Phoenix to Spring in Phoenix. I am not complaining considering some posts I have read here about fellow MGI brethren's troubles because there are always others in much worse shape than you are. I try and live my life being grateful for what I do have, not what I don't have. That said, I hope to be in Phoenix by the middle off March and have a lot of golf and equipment to catch up on. ... First up will be the Cobra Speedzone Xtreme. I thought the F8 was one of the most forgiving drivers Cobra has produced and the F9 was one of the fastest and longest. I would not be "upgrading" to a Speedzone driver in 2020 that would be marginally better than my F9, and maybe not any better at all. But according to some engineers at Cobra, the Speedzone Xtreme just might be a combination of the best of the F8 and F9. I will start with my Tensei Orange but I also have an Aldila White 130 on the way as well as my Atmos Tour Spec Blue. I have to say that judging by pictures I was not too sure about the wrap around milled face coming up on the crown, and thought it might be distracting. But like many photo's, in person it looks very different, especially down on the ground in the address position where it looks very nice. That was a pleasant surprise. After playing it awhile I will post my thoughts and hope to compare it to the Mavrik and ST200 as well.

Short game was terrible. Front nine doubled all the par 4s, par on all the par 3s, and birdie on the par 5s. Back was all pars with 3 bogeys. Driver, 3W, and putters were performing well. Struggled with some pull hooks with my hybrids.

  17. Congratulations to MGS and especially its founders and moderating staff - great job all!! Having stumbled from a train wreck of a golf forum to this one, and having briefly sampled a couple of others, I can say unequivocally that MGS is the best. Also hats off to all of the forum members for being very self managed and keeping the vast majority of threads inside the fairways - well, at least inbounds anyway . Just short of 2 years with the forum, I feel like I know many of you even though we've never met. Thanks to everyone for the great input on an array of topics, the light hearted banter/trash talk, and friendship. I hope to meet and perhaps play a track with many more of you as the years roll along.

    Golf cart herd

I'm sure there have been many, many, many posts related to pace of play at all levels of golf. But, I got routinely stuck Saturday behind a herd of golfers and their carts. Likely they were all members and my complaints wouldn't have done me any good if I had tried to lodge any, but holy crap. I don't mind people playing in a group of 4 or 5, but when that group also includes every golfer having their own riding cart instead of pairing up, it turns into a traffic nightmare. And I'm not even going to do anymore than mention their magnetic attraction to trees.... Guess I just needed to vent my frustration one more time. P.S. the group of 3 members that my playing partner and I let skip us while we ate at the turn were super cool. They had been hung up just as often by the herd and were stuck at the 18th tee when we arrived. They ended up inviting us to join them for the 18th and a good time was had by all.

    How'd you play?

Played 18 on March 1st. Absolutely amazing that I'm out so early. Hoping the good weather keeps it up! - 45/47 = 92 (+22) / 90 ESC - 7/13 FIR - 3/18 GIR (1 birdie) - 31 Putts (1 3-putt, 12 2-putts, 4 1-putts, 1 chip-in) - 2:20 Round Time I had to drive a bit to find a course that was open this morning, but I really wanted to hit something other than range balls. I'm very pleased with my round, especially if I remove my three worst holes. I had five pars and a birdie, so it's sad that I walked away with the score I did. No frost this morning, but the owner warned me the greens may be a bit frozen. I should have heeded his warning. My approach pitch on the first hole looked like it hit concrete, bouncing high and hard over the green. Started the round with a triple bogey. Played pretty well throughout the round, but snap hooked back-to-back drives OB on 16 and 17, recording a triple and quad bogey to really ruin the score. Overall, however, I hit more good shots than bad, and given slightly softer conditions and less wind (gusts approaching 30-40 MPH at times today), it will be fun to see where my game is at. Felt so nice to hit real golf balls again. Took advantage of the hard fairways and had drives of 285, 272 and 293. More importantly, my misses today were left, and that's huge considering my misses in the past were slices off the planet. Struggled a bit getting speed right with the putts (super slow compared to my winter practice indoors), but overall had a good day with the putter and had a wonderful day chipping. So ready for the season to get into full swing.

  28. Happy 10th, My Golf Spy. I have been playing this game for 61 years and the last 10 have been the best. Getting to meet and play with guys every year, even just looking forward to seeing them has been exciting. Got a couple rounds planned next week with RevKev & CG2. Followed by a visit with Mattf & 00Sportsman. Life doesn’t get much better. BTW, my 10th Anniversary with MGS is on Monday, 3/1/20! Wow, how time flies. 29. Yo gang - The rest of the staff already said everything that needs to be said, but that's never stopped me before Thank you all for making this forum such a great place to call home. Your character, humor and love of the game make all our jobs not only easy but a hell of a lot of fun. I enjoyed my tie as one of the forum directors, and I'll tell you what, the job Rob, STUD, Stroker and MPR are doing is way, WAY beyond anything our group could have ever come up with. You really should see the behind the scenes discussions these guys have - it's truly next level stuff. I've been lucky enough to play with a batch of you guys over the years - @fozcycle, @revkev, @HighFade, @MattF and others (I'm sorry if I've forgotten you - I'm old, it happens) - and I hope to tee it up with more of you in my travels. This place would be nowhere without you, and I"m really proud to be a part of it - even if I don't get on here as much as I used to. On behalf of the folks in the Head Shed in Yorktown, thank you for a fantastic 10 years, and personally, thank you for a great 8 years!

  31. I feel fortunate that the trails had already been blazed by the time I joined up. All we had to do was lay down a little blacktop here and there. Membership has been great for my game too. So much knowledge shared helped me make so many good choices for my game that led directly to improvement and lower scores. This forum goes nowhere without the members and we've got an amazing bunch. ======================== Always on the clock, let me transition to forum news......we've gone social! There's a new Official Twitter account for the forum: @ForumMyGolfSpy We'll be using the account to promote noteworthy threads, spark discussion, and of course announce testing opportunities. As part of our 10th anniversary celebration, we've got 2 opportunities for prizes right off the bat:

  32. Sunday at the Honda was a content monster. For those who didn't get to see it, here's the backstory to our three poll questions: (1) Do European tour wins count as much as pga tour wins? (2) Is Azinger a doofus? No better way to fire up an entire continent than alienate the population on live TV. When talking about Fleetwood's attempt for his first PGA win, Azinger's monologue on his comparisons between the Euro Tour and PGA were certainly cringe-worthy. Calling it "that other tour" and citing that you haven't won until you've won on the PGA. In his defense, this is him toeing the company line by promoting the PGA tour. Additional, Fleetwood was previously quoted saying "if you want to be one of the best in the world, you need to win in America." Which side of this do you fall? (3) What should be done to spectators who yell something during a players backswing? Standing in the par 5, 18th fairway, Fleetwood needed birdie to tie Im for the lead and force a playoff. From 253y, he decided to go for the green with water right. At the top of his backswing, a spectator yelled "Get in the hole!" and, well, just watch the result for yourself:

  34. That mental side is a killer. My issue has been not committing to a technique, so I stand over a ball and don’t know how I’m going to swing! I’ve committed to a chipping style, and I’ve committed to a pitching style. Now I just gotta get the reps so I can trust that part and just focus on distance control. No wonder Pros still don’t break par every time. There are SO many aspects to this game to work on to the detriment of areas not worked on! Sheesh. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

  37. How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I’ve been playing about 11/12 years. First started playing while in college and never stopped. I usually shoot low 90s or high 80s, with the occasional low 80 score where I go 4 over par through the first 11 holes and then the wheels just completely fall off for the last 7, like I did last week in Florida. Never broke 80 yet but this is my year. What do you love about golf? I love being able to get out and play with family and friends. Just shooting the s*** and enjoying each other’s company. I also love the competitiveness, but I enjoy competing against myself more. 3. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I love MGS, I’ve been a reader/follower of the site for years. I like the fact theirs actual research that goes into the reviews, the honesty of it all, and that they have the best interest for the reader/player in mind. I don’t know any other spies. 4. Where are you from? What is your home course? Chicago northsider born and raised. I don’t have a home course but if me and my playing partners are looking to stay close to home or walk well play Glenview, winnetka, or mt prospect etc. If we want to play a nicer course we’ll go to Highlands of Elgin, Bowes creek, or thunder hawk etc. 5. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? I don’t know what the best thing about Chicago golf is to be honest. I guess i could say we have a lot of courses in the Chicagoland area and we are Centrally located for golf trips to Wisconsin or Michigan. Worst thing is courses are usually packed in the playable months. 6. What do you do for a living? I’m a small business owner. 7. How’d you pick your user name? Ish is a nickname I’ve had since I was a kid and it stuck.

  40. Made it out to the Boston Golf Expo again this year. This time I went on Friday as soon as it opened to avoid the crowd. Headed right to the Callaway booth and got my specs for a Mavrik driver. That thing is sweet. Not a big fan of the color scheme this year but it is nice. After that I explored. There were tents from the major manufacturers .... most had at least 1 trackman but there was no screen and it was on either an ipad or phone so you really couldn't see much. They had driving range mats and you hit into black netting. And most of the tees for driver were 2 inches. No bueno. Along with the hitting booths there were used clubs galore and some interesting finds... There were some good prices on things and I ended up with an Odyssey #9 for 20.00 Who wouldn't want a BAZOOKA in their bag ! This Alien looked like it had been barely used.... I mean look at the "grooves?" on the face !! What would a golf Expo be without the beloved Ping Eye2 lob wedge and some SLDR drivers.... Who couldn't use a 12 iron... Honestly? Who? Titleist T400 They're beefy but really look nice. A '49' iron... the PW is 38 degrees so I guess this is a gap wedge ?? That is one thick sole The topdown view wasn't horrible... PW compared to the t300 and t200 The CNCPT iron heads had their own carry case, were still in the plastic and by "appointment only" LOL; I didn't even ask. Who wouldn't want a 1, 2, 3, 4 Titleist iron set in their bag.... c'mon. This would be cool. The Wilson Launch Pad irons are going to give the Cleveland Launchers a run for their money. Easy to hit, long and designed so that the back of the club kind of 'disappears' Wilson also has a hit on their hands with the D7 Forged.... so, so nice. Didn't know about the 'Cobra Custom' shoes option but both those and the Ascics were really cool. The Cleveland Launcher HB Turbo driver looks a little like the 410 from the top and I thought was the sleeper of the expo. Felt good, looked good. Terrific price - I could very easily an happily game this. Sad to say there is no way I could game the new Mizuno Driver. There is a distinct color difference on the head that I am not a fan of and could never get used to. Best putter by far - looks and feel - is the new Ping Heppler. The black and copper is magnifique, the black shaft is spot on and the feel is superb. Last but not least, MGS was represented at the Snell MTB-X booth. Yay! Had a great time there.... I won't bore you with the CBD booth stuff. LOL. Best irons I hit - D7 forged Driver hierarchy - Mavrik > TS3 & Cleveland (already hit the SIM at PGATSS, no interest in Mizuno, Ping had the old g410 and I've hit that many times) The Mavrik barely edged the other 2. Best thing that I did - 10.00 for a 10 minute 'tune-up' from a PGA pro...I've never had a lesson and he immediately saw something and helped me fix a flaw. I really need to get a full lesson.

However, I upgraded m6 Apple Watch to the series 3 so I could use it with Arccos......after a couple months, it started locking up on the back nine. Customer Service tried a few things but eventually they “gave up” on me. So I gave up on them. Now I have a Shotscope V2 and am getting used to the pin thing. I find it somewhat difficult to edit the rounds afterward and have not signed off on a few rounds where there was too much editing to do. So far I like it. Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy

    How'd you play?

84.... 43% of fairways, 33% of greens. Played the 3 wood all day since I have the driver up for sale. After the 11th hole my back started to have the nerve action starting, so that’s when I start standing up, and get steep. I had one 1-putt all day. Not the best round, but I keep telling myself, “Just 5 strokes from 79...” I just want to be in the 70s every round. Went to the range after and hit about 40 balls to get the feel of rotating and doing what I learned in my last lesson. Just gonna take time... Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  49. Went to the range first, hit a large bucket (40-50 balls), fought early extension the last 1/3. Frustrating. Went to the chipping green and spent almost an hour chipping first, then hit pitches. Figured out the PW is the choice for chipping, and the 54* for pitching. Then worked on putting speed since our greens are in tough shape. I gotta keep spending the time in the short game area. This is where I’m going to help myself the most in my quest for all rounds in the 70s. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
