  1. No apologies needed. You are engaging a banter for all to enjoy. In fact I should apologize for just calling you a loser. We all know and most importantly, I know your not. It's part of Yellow Balls persona to be on the edge. You guys hit me with clubs, hit me into trees, ponds with alligators, and yell at me. My only retaliation is to call you guys out in my own unique sarcastic nature. You, sir, have challenged my creative juices the most and it's been fun trying to come up with a creative response. Then sometimes I have to tone it down a bit before I hit "save". It is a family channel after all. But I'm jealous that you are talking to a lady friend. I been divorced many times. Cali dumped me, Hope told me to take a dive into a deep pond. (Santa, scuba gear for Christmas please!) I've been talking to a Pink Lady. But being a lady I'm sure I won't get far. I'm far from a gentleman. Now that Maxfi Tour had that 40 percent off sale yesterday, I know they are going to want to restock Yellow Balls. I gota get busy if you know what I mean. Winter is here and material is slim. The majority of the contributors to the " How'd you play" thread that are still playing have been roasted already. So to keep a weekly post going is getting rough and I'm thinking outside the box. You have added to the thread greatly. So thanks for keeping me on a roll. YB

One I can add, finally. Chili with some shredded white cheddar and bacon bits for garnish. Turned out great, and ate way too much.

  3. ... I was talking to a lady friend and she said "You are being too harsh on the Yellow Fellow. He has feelings too ya know". Well I thought about it and she is right of course perhaps I have thrown around words like Cowardice a little to freely and probably undeserved. So I publicly apologize. ... Now there, with that out of the way I saw Yellow Ball with a high index player and in the desert and bouncing among the rocks and stones much more than any grass and certainly not the fairway. But to be honest I was not at all surprised to see the bravery challenged Yellow Ball try and hide on the back 9. After skulling YB with a wedge and not for the first time (that had to hurt ) we were looking over the back of the green in the bushes where all 4 of us saw him roll ... but we could not find him. Hmmmmm. Finally after calling off the search I looked up when I saw a hummingbird trying in vane and suck the nectar out of "yellow flower" and there he was hiding up in the tree! How did he get up there so fast? And more importantly should I tell his master for the day? It was then I saw the leaves shaking and decided to just let him sit the rest of this one out. No sign of him in here and we all saw him roll into these bushes?!? A little like an easier version of Where's Waldo, there he is hiding in this tree. A shame he missed me rolling in a 15 footer on 18 to get back to even par, something I have not done since my elbow tendonitis appeared.

  5. WEEK 15 WAS A MARATHON. What an exciting way to finish too; seems like many of the matchups came down to the waning seconds of the game. At least the games last night were somewhat competitive unlike many of the other games this week. Congrats to @Mtbryant01@den748@daviddvm@ghost_32@ChrisW@russtopherb@Berg Rymanand myself for advancing to round 2 and joining the blessed few that got last week off. Here's your bracket: Now, things kick up a notch. To advance to the Super Bowl, you must go 3-0 this week. Good Luck!

  6. I don’t think there’s anything much worse than watching the game and agonizing every positive play that your opponents players make. Not how I like to root for fantasy. Just the worse especially when you lose by a handful instead of an onslaught and you second guess yourself when you have points on your bench… not how I wanted to end my first MGS fantasy football season. Thanks for having me anyway.

  8. We actually did that one time on a supposedly upscale course here. We would putt the first one if it went in it counted if not pick it up. What was bad was that they had not told anyone the condition of the greens and had charged full price. People were complaining and the staff sorta smirked as in FU. They were not smiling the next day because a bunch of us got on Social Media and reported it. One guy I knew who worked there said they had like 20 group cancellations the next day about the same the following day. I know they were running $20 specials the next 2 weeks. I have never been down there since.

    How'd you play?

Played a par 3 short course 9 early this morning, before I had to pick up my daughter from the airport. We are supposed to get rain the rest of the week, so this was my opportunity as I'm off today. It was rather brisk (39*), but as you can see from the pic, the sun was out and the breeze was very light (made REALLY good use of my electric hand warmer). Missed a couple greens, but managed to chip those close and one putt. Didn't ever get a birdie putt to drop, as I think I had four a foot or less and another three under 2 feet, so even par on the day.

  12. Hello! I have been lurking and reading reviews for a several years and finally decided to join. I felt the urge to report my personal sucess with Super Speed Training system. It's awesome BTW. Off to the pressing questions! How long have you been playing golf? What’s your handicap or normal score? I've been playing golf since Tiger first appeared on the scene. It must be 20+ years. I had to take a 10 year hiatus while my two kids were growing up. I was able to take back up about 5 years ago when kids were old enough to drive. What do you love about golf? I like it's solitary nature. It's a battle with oneself even though one is playing against others. I love the feel of a pure strike whether it's a drive, chip or a putt. It feels fantastic. What brings you to MyGolfSpy? Do you already know any other Spies? I love how the reviews are conducted. MGS attempts to be as data driven as possible. Although I think in many cases, it could be done even better, but it's far better than any other source out there. I don't know any other spies. Where are you from? What is your home course? Originally from Korea, moved to the States as a preteen. I live in Massachusetts now. My home course is Green Meadows GC in Hudson, NH. Unfortunately, the 36 track is in the process of being sold to be developed into massive warehouses majority of which will be occupied by Amazon as distribution centers. I may have played my last round there last week. What are the best and worst things about golf in your region? Worst thing: Long brutal winters. Best thing: Long brutal winter which allows you to train while others aren't. What do you do for a living? Develop software How’d you pick your user name? I tried 'pakman' as a play on my last name, but it's always taken. So pakman92 it is. I hope to be proactive member moving forward instead of a passive lurker.

    How'd you play?

Played Desert Hills today and put a Vice Pro Plus against the #1 ball in golf. VPP 46/42, PV1 43/40. Started off the round a little shaky but settled in a few holes into the round and hit pretty well. Big Red held its own off the tee but did seem a few yards shorter overall. I had two sets of drives on a couple of holes that were near mirror images and provided some nice comparative data. Not much difference in approach shots, or holding greens, and both felt very similar off the putter. I must say, the red color is easy to see. Hole #14. My line off the tee is over the tall palm and catch the hard rough and kick back into the fairway. I have a couple balls in that palm... I know where they are, so technically not lost . Those things are catcher mitts.

  14. Greetings from normally muggy miserable , but today 44 degree, windy, drizzly Lexington, SC. It has been some time since we were not here in high summer June/July/August and I'd forgotten how pleasant it can be when I'm not melting. My in-laws live on and are members of Lexington CC so my FIL and I took the cart over to the range today and spent a couple hours in the cold (the only two doofuses out there) BS'ing, talking golf, and hitting my FIL's collection of Mizuno irons. (MX23 - MX 25 -MX 300 - JPX 850 forged. Let's just say that it was chilly enough to behoove you to make good contact or you'd spend the next few minutes wringing your hands out even though it was highly beneficial to be hitting irons as buttery as Mizunos. I really, really, liked the 850s and they definitely accelerating the push toward Mizunos. Practice wise I will say that I was presently surprised with my striking ability today. It was cold, the equipment was different, the flex was wrong for me, but I still made good contact, still was able to put movement on the ball, and had good enough hand control to compensate for the tendency to pull or balloon. It was a very pleasant surprise as every time I've been out here before I had to really work to even get comfortable with the MX23s. Progress maybe? Wedge wise, I may have to sneak the Mizuno 54/6 into my luggage. Be fun to see how I play when we go out in the next couple of days.

  16. Don't trade with @blackngold_blood The guy is a master wheeler and dealer and somehow always seems to trade himself into an incredible team. Fantasy Golf is a little different than football. Golfers don't play week in and week out. You will have weeks where you have all your players playing and weeks you have none. It is about finding a balance. You need players playing to get wins and get you into the playoff but then you need players that are in the playoff events and the two don't always overlap. For example Brooks played in 19 events vs Sungjae Im played in 33.

  21. So I went to the local Dicks sports today to finish up shopping...their golf store is phenomenal. The shape of the MG3 was surprising and is much different than prior models...I like how the line from the toe to the heel is a much straighter profile. Rather than rounded out it resembles more of a PW from a set and truthfully, it's very appealing. I didn't buy one today but based on looks alone, it certainly has my eye.

  22. Not to be outdone, let's not forget that the Circus league playoffs start this week as well: Now the format is quite goofy with SIX BYES plus it carries on past the end of the regular season. That's my bad as I should've done a custom bracket for Circus as well...but here we are. The Circus winner will be the team with the best score in Week 18. Good luck!

  24. Thanks for putting this up @STUDque! @daviddvm@Scott33 and @den748 going to be a epic battle and regardless of who wins this week I'll be going to for you to win it all! Unfortunately I don't think any of us will put our best lineups forward with covid, but at the very least will be entertaining! Also nice to see a variety of high and lower seeds make it through to the semis. Good luck to all and can't wait for the week to begin!

  25. When seeing an advertisement for a new course we always say “beautiful 36 holes of golf”. That was a slogan on a billboard for a course on route to the vacation lake. On one trip we decided to stop and play the “beautiful 36 holes” , only to discover it was a 9 hole goat ranch that you played four times! We played 18 and still get a good laugh out of it.

Know I started this as a dog day thread but feel like it can be a centralized dog thread…. really lost, last week found out the youngest pup had a liver disease. Brought him in thinking he may have had a bad tooth or something and the vet anticipated him to have less than a month….we struggled all week to get food in him or for him to take his medication….we had to help him along yesterday morning as he was not going to eat and just was not himself at all. my wife was going through pictures today and had over 1000. He was a photogenic, lover of his people and crazy soul. We called him little gronkowski because he was just all over the place. He was the only one to survive his littler and that’s why we named him gunner, a survivor. We had to let him go way to soon and it really sucks. “If heaven doesn’t have dogs, I want to go where they went”

  30. What is funny I have always been a 588 fan ever since they came out. Now recently I had to add a 52* gap wedge for the current set up. I had a Mack Daddy 2 Cally I rescued off the junk pile a while back Raw and rusty. I had messed with it some and came to like it as I can hit some amazing shots with it. I also have the 56 that goes with it. Tried it Saturday in all of its Rusty Glory and liked it better than the modified PM 56*. So it has been raining and cold the last 2 days and so both of them have been in the Vinegar and Coke Soak. Man they turned out good grooves sharp and all. No wear whatsoever can not figure why someone literally threw them out. Someone at the course the other day chided me as in thought you were a Cleveland man? Yep but By God these were after all designed by Roger Cleveland and it says so right on the back. And yes I am playing pain free still with the TMs with the Steel Fiber Shafts-- Have gotten to hitting those pretty good but still have to learn them on distance control shaping etc. Kinda having control issues for me Saturday as in I can not cut them as much and when I really nut them they go. I was kinda grumbling but one of my buds stressed that I had hit blade Macs for 45 years so I can not get used to those TMs in a month and a half. But eventually I will figgure that out But basically my golf stuff is set for me unless I find like some antique at the thrifts or something--- But thanks again old buddy for your encouragement and imput on those shafts. You basically helped save the game for me--- Merry Christmas

  35. Background: I have been using "GolfShot" which is a GPS app that tracks basic information and such but does not provide shots gained info. I like to do a bit of analysis so previously I was screenshotting each shot so that I could go back and recalculate what happened during the round. Very cumbersome. It gives basic yardages that I have started to ignore as I get closer to the green since I use my rangefinder. I was looking at getting a shotscope V3 to get better tracking but then found the myRound Pro app that is, amazingly, free. I was suspicious so I had to investigate. Purpose: I want a historical record of my rounds, distances and strokes gained. Obviously I could do this with Arccos or Shotscope but to get this available in a free app is ideal. I am fine with some editing as long the user interface is good. First impressions: My first impression with the app was not great. I didn't really understand the interface and some of the shot inputs were not intuitive (especially putting). Major caveat here, I did not read the instructions. I just dove in. So that's my bad. To be honest, after about 3 holes I figured it out. Now it is no problem. You initially setup your bag and then set the handicap you want strokes gained against. For me, I am a 5.0 and so I set it at 5 hdcp but in the future I might move it to a scratch handicap so I know where I need to get better. Let's talk through how it works on a hole: Hole 1: You start with a digitized view of the hole, it doesn't give a ton of context to the golf hole so if it is a new course this won't give you much insight You then hit the "+ Shot" button which means you are initiating a shot. The GPS will place you somewhere but you can tap on the shot and move it to a more accurate spot if needed. (Note: you can do this during the round OR after the round in edit mode) After you hit your drive, you walk up to your next shot and hit "+ shot" which will then tell the app you have arrived at the ball off your first shot and it will mark it again. You can indicate the club to be used on the 2nd shot and the lie. Again, I use a rangefinder as well so if the GPS doesn't have me in the right spot I can move it based on my range finder yardage. You can also move the pin by tapping on the flag icon and sliding it around (you can do this at any time including after you have finished the hole). Once on the green, you can start adding putts. To make sure I get the right distance on putts I walk them off (I have been doing this already to calculate strokes gained putting). You then mark a putt (or putts) like you do shots. See the first picture below where I am moving the pin: The next picture is me marking my first putt. And then finishing the hole: Okay, okay. That was a lot of screenshots. First of all, many of you will look at this and say "jesus that looks cumbersome/takes too much time." You might be right! The first round it was not intuitive to me to mark my shot before taking it but really you are just setting the start of the shot (or the end of the previous shot). By the second round it was pretty seamless and I shot my lowest 9 hole score ever (-3) not necessarily because of this app but more I am trying to show that this app did not "get in the way." I play all my rounds on public courses which are slow and slammed anyway so this gives me something to do instead of getting annoyed standing over my shot. I edit the shots in real time since I don't always remember every yardage I had but I could just as easily do it after. Marking putts is the most sensitive and time consuming part but it's also one that is very important to me. This app also keeps score and, most importantly, keeps strokes gained stats. I played 9 holes yesterday (thus it is averaging out to be a 64 because I shot 3 under which is not normal) and I can look at across an array of stats: I cut off strokes gained so here it is in full: Then your classic stats which are not as relevant anymore: Finally, distances by club which I messed up a little since I hit some punch shots and a few pitch outs which screwed up my distances. The app gives you the option to not assign a club to a particular shot so it won't mess up your averages so I will likely do that in the future. Anyway here are the average distances: So, this app basically does everything I was looking for ShotScope v3 to do but in a more manual and slightly obtrusive manner. Most people will probably not want to do all the editing and manipulating but for me it is an easier process than I had before. I will likely update this review as I gain experience with the app but wanted to put it out there as a FREE option for those who want strokes gained data.

  38. I agree @BigStu, we have no problem playing a “goat ranch” course. Just tell me up front and charge appropriately. It seems “truth in advertising “ is a thing of the past and aeration specials have also gone with it. Fortunately in our area a $40.00 and up course is rare as most are $30/35 m-thur, but typically $25 for seniors at 50 years and up. Our State Park courses are $26 May thru September and only $20 Spring and Fall and are some of the nicest courses around with zoysia and bent grasses superbly maintained.

  39. I'm still using the original ball I started my testing with back in November. The RCTs get a big positive mark in the durability category. I have not seen a significant reduction in ball speeds or anything like that. As the cover has worn, and since the FlightScope firmware update, the estimated reads have gone up significantly, however. For example, from Sunday's session: Driver - 6/63 (9.5%) Balls captured Actual Spin 2 Hybrid - 2/7 (28.6%) Balls captured Actual Spin 4 Hybrid - 0/7 (0%) Balls captured Actual Spin 4 Utility - 6/18 (33.3%) Balls captured Actual Spin 6 Iron - 6/14 (42.9%) Balls captured Actual Spin 7 Iron - 5/8 (62.5%) Balls captured Actual Spin 9 Iron - 3/5 (60%) Balls captured Actual Spin Full 54 Wedge - 12/18 (66.6%) Balls captured Actual Spin Partial 54 Wedge - 3/14 (21.4%) Balls captured Actual Spin Sunday's session was with the Mevo+ set 8 feet behind the ball on the concrete, on indoors mode, with about 13 feet of flight. Mevo+ was set to 18 degree tilt angle, and the ball height parameter was set to 2 inches since the Fiberbuilt Flightdeck I use is about 2 inches above the Mevo+. These settings seem to get accurate peak height and direction, but the lack of spin is a little concerning. There does seem to be a cutoff at about 140 MPH ball speed where spin seems to be significantly more difficult for the Mevo+ to read. That's right between my 4 utility and 4 hybrid. A good test will be for me to use a new RCT the next time out and pick a similar selection of clubs. Hoping to get out there sometime Thursday for another session.

  40. I do not have any problem with a goat ranch in fact they can be fun with funky bounces etc----- But do not charge me a preminum price to play it or misrepresent it--- Ever since the Chinese Group called Founders group bought 21 courses here it has became rampart and I am afraid it is going to reach up and bite the golf industry in the butt here. We used to have aerification specials but lately they do not tell customers or give reduced rates. Now my course I am a member at is not a pristine Tourist Themed course nor is it a goat ranch. The walk in rates for non members is around $35 $45 in season compared to like $65 or more at the Tourist courses. And I have seen our owners on walk ins tell them if they had aerated like normally the rate is say like $35 just give us $20 because we just aerated. Exactly how my Old Man would have done it

  44. I like your idea of using the 5w shaft as an experiment to start with. Measured at address position my 3w is 42.75" . If I remember correctly D1 adapter setting opens the face about 1* and results in a 15.75* loft. This club goes about 10 -15 yards further than my 15* hybrid which is shorter at 41.5". The 15* hybrid is like a 5w distance for me. Both were selected to fit a yardage I was looking for.

  45. We're making a unilateral change on this. The idea of Best Ball is more popular but it just doesn't show up properly in live scoring so no one ever has a clue where they stand without using workarounds. Because it degraded the quality of the league, we're going back to Start/Sit. 5 starters, 5 bench.

  46. I think there have only been a handful of winners from the forum. Last year, I won a wedge because I was able to be the first to answer one if Adam’s questions. I think it is that either people have no interest in being on a forum or they don’t know it exists. I have my MGS headcover which means I get some comments occasionally so we talk about MGS. Lots of people are just interested in the results of the most wanted testing….or “winning” a forum test opportunity.
