    How'd you play?

Had a few meetings this morning then decided to play for a third day in a row. Better today. 41/40 81. Played reasonably well today. I was much better on approach and still mediocre off the tee. I very often today had to take my medicine and chip back onto the fairway when my tee shot left me no opportunity for a shot into the green. My putter and wedges were on fire today though. 28 putts including one 30 footer for birdie on 15 that got me back in the breaking 80 game. The birdie put me at 7 over starting 16 and I knew I just needed to par out to make it happen then I hit my tee shot. Great contact to right behind a lone tree...I took my medicine and chipped out to 110 where I promptly dug a trench for my third shot. . I collected myself, then hit the resulting 60 yard shot to 10 feet and converted a nervy putt for Bogey to put me at +8. I still had a chance though needing one birdie from two holes, one of which I birdie reasonably often. 17 is the +3 handicap hole it's straightaway, long, and often right into the teeth of the wind. I hit a reasonable tee shot that left me with 184 to the flag in what I thought was a 1 club headwind(should have gone up 2). I hit a great 4 iron to the front of the green but had 70 feet to lag to get close enough to convert for par. I managed to get pin high but left myself with 4 feet to cleanup for par. Managed to convert and left myself Still sitting at +8. I felt confident on 18 and hit a conservative and reasonable tee shot. The second shot is where I made a mistake. There are trees midway down the fairway on both sides. They are normally not in play for me, but today that happened to be right in the landing area for my 2H. So, I conservatively pulled my 3w thinking a nice easy swing would easily power past the trees.... Disaster. Drop kicked it right into the trees on the left. No clean shot at the green and 190 out. t. So I tried to pull off a low hero draw. Hoping to at least give myself a long birdie putt attempt. Solid contact with a decent amount of movement but not enough to get on the green. Pin high in the right bunker very close to the lip with 30 yards to the pin. I tried so hard to hole it out (damn near did it). Rolled about a foot right of the pin out to 15'. Wind kind of came out of sails at that point and I was a little sloppy setting up for the par putt. and brushed the edge but ran 6 feet past. Not going to lie, I was disappointed. But I was also pretty excited because I was sitting at 8 over after bogey on 14. I told myself that I was going to par out, almost strategized my way there, and only added a single stroke to that +8 over the next 4 holes. Most fun I've had playing in a while and I think I might have a good idea of how to strategize keeping myself that focused for future rounds.

    How'd you play?

Swing feels fantastic. Driver was fine on all but two holes, irons were great, short game wasn't bad. Had some of the best swings of the season this morning, but I couldn't putt at all. Six three-putts en route to 38 total putts. Just miserable as I couldn't get speed right all morning jumping from some heavily dewed greens, some with only light dew and others that were mowed already (the joys of morning golf!). One really bad hole (+5) where I slipped on my driver downswing and lost the ball under a pine tree well right and couldn't get back to the fairway. Otherwise, besides the score struggling to stay below 90, one of my best golf swing rounds all season? So bizarre.

Was playing a decent round today, not great, but not bad....putts weren't falling and just burning edges on several putts.....and then disaster strikes on #14 with a triple bogey followed by a double on #16. Limped in with an 83 for the round.

  4. Got out yesterday afternoon at my old home course for a solo round. Shot 36/40-76. I hit 13 greens and had 0 3 putts. Two birdies on the front as I did it on both par 3s. #2 was the shot of the round as I hit a 6i inside a foot. #8 was a 4i pin high and I made the 12 footer. The back 9 is much tougher, and I had two penalties which hurt a bit. I think some of what I was talking to @chisag about last week is starting to click as this was my best round in over a month. Also I picked something up from Tiger. He supposedly had 5 rules for scoring. -No double bogeys -No 3 putts -No bogeys on par 5s -No bogeys with a wedge (2nd shot) -No blown up & downs Based on that I had a few mistakes yesterday #1 (bogey with wedge), #12 (double), #15 (bogey par 5 penalty), #18 (bogey par 5)

  5. I haven't posted in a few weeks about how I've been playing recently. But before I get into that, as most of you know I am a dew sweeper. First one off in the morning and you can follow my tracks down the fairway and I'm usually right behind the greens mower and roller crew. I have perfect greens every round. Recently the last two rounds I played were afternoon rounds. What a difference seven hours make. Much more roll in the fairways which is a good thing. But the greens do have many more imperfections due to either careless repair or not repaired at all and the traps are more compact from the sun drying them out. Not to mention some lazy asses that don't rake the traps. Last week was a great round. Partially due to firmer fairways and having nothing more than a 9 iron into greens. I had three birdies and 1 bogey for a solid 69. Yesterday afternoon started off great as well. Lots of roll short irons in and I finished the front even par 1 bogey and 1 bird for a 36. Usually my back 9 score is better than the front. Started off the back 9 with a par on a tough hole. 413 yard par 4 all uphill and guarded by two large bunkers in the front. Then a perfect drive on 11 and 80 yards off the green. Right after I teed off on 11 the phone dinged with a work related email. Some bone head at the office messed up and the customer was complaining to me to rectify the situation. Immediately my mind was not in the game and I was pissed off. Double bogeyed 11, then par, bogey, bogey, par, par, bogey, par for a 40 on the back. I'm not sure when the last time I shot 76 (I know what you are thinking, poor Tom complaining about a 76) was, but what was more important was that I allowed work to get in my head instead of focusing on my round. Hey, but I didn't lose a ball during my fits of internal rage on the tee box and wanting to smash the ship out of the ball! Couldn't focus on the putting. Note to self, Leave the phone in the golf bag on mute or in the car.

    How'd you play?

Played in a charity scramble today which means my team didn’t win because we played by the rules of a scramble. We had 2 young guys in our group so I joked that I would never hit driver because it wouldn’t be necessary - until they said 65 and over were playing up a set of tees. I only missed 1 fairway all day and we used a number of my drives. Just not hitting my irons well at all right now. Taking a lesson on Sunday after church.

Played my Thursday afternoon league match today instead because of work issues and shot a +2 39. 2 birdies, two bogeys, and the always lurking stub chip double made for an entertaining round of golf. Could have gone lower possibly, but in all, a solid round where I know I crushed whichever opponent I end up playing.

    How'd you play?

So today was an interesting round. Shot 105...But!!!! For those that dont' know, I'm in the middle of having cataract surgery on both eyes. My Right eye was done two weeks ago, my left eye was supposed to be done yesterday but had to be canclled due to an emergency with the surgeon. So I decided to give it a go playing with "one eye" It was interestng. Hitting off the tee was not a probelm really, but hitting off the turf was. First I would often see 3 balls until until blinked a few times and refocused. Still it led to some pretty poor shots that resulted in several penalty strokes througout the round. Putting was difficult at first, but then I found a method that worked ok. Even made some nice 5 to 8 footers, and one 15 footer for par. We're in the stretch run of our league and playoff spots are at stake. So I don't want to sit out the next three weekis. As long as I show up and play I get the points for that, and who knows maybe a "blind squirl" will find a CTP every now and then for some bonus points.

Played the back 9 today n my home course. A much better result. I shot a 52. The driver was working really well as was my hybrid. Once again my chipping is giving me fits. And a bone head move on the first hole cost me a lost ball. I wanted my 7 iron but pulled my 4 iron and didn’t notice it until my shot sailed well over the green and into the woods. My putting as more suspect than usual. But overall I was pleased.

    How'd you play?

I haven't played golf in 10 days. I spent the last two days on the range and practice green working on my swing from Monte's clinic in Seattle a few weeks ago. I wasn't going to play today but my wife and two of her ladies league friend needed a token male. Shotgun start at 8am since the course had a scramble tournament going off at 1pm. The bad news: shot 39/42 = 81. Not bad until you find out that the 39 (+2) included a triple bogey and three birdies. The 42 (+7) included a triple bogey and one birdie. The good news: I was very pleased with my ball striking today. I only missed the fairway off the tee twice (#1 and #3; bogey and triple)) and a couple of drives were much further than normal. The work on a bigger backswing seems to be working. Also, I hit nine (9) GIR... count 'em... 9 greens!! Usual for me is 4-5 GIR. I only had two "not great" iron shots with my Macgregors; both shots were the correct distance but pushed right. No fat shots today!! Three of my birdies came on par 5's; one on a par 4 and all birdies were putts between 10-25 feet. It was one of those "see the line and just hit it" putting days. Woulda, shoulda, coulda been another shoot my age round except for those nasty triples.

Sllooooowwwwww 9 this morning. I was behind a foursome that was playing from the wrong tees. They really should have been playing the forward tees. But oh well. Had a decent driving day. In more fairways than not. Including a 224 yard drive on the first hole. Only one 3 putt for nine holes. I also had a nice 24 foot one putt. My irons developed the “tops” mid round. My chipping game was better than my last round but still needs a lot of improvement. But it wasn’t raining, the day was sunny and I was golfing. So it was a good day.

    How'd you play?

Owen and I played the back nine at River Heights today. I started out rough as per my usual custom going double double before getting to twelve which is a short par four. Meh drive followed by a wedge that came up just short of the fringe. Chipped to within a foot for a tap in par. On thirteen I had a decent drive and a horrible 7 iron. I hit my love wedge to the elevated green and it stopped in the fringe just beyond. Managed to chip in to save the par!! Fourteen is the only hole I haven't gotten par yet. After a wayward drive and a recovery out of the trees that rolled forever, I put my wedge to twelve feet and JUST missed the putt for a tap in bogey. (This par is coming soon, I can feel it!) After a poor drive on fifteen Owen decided he was going to fix my swing which lead to me going triple, bogey, triple, bogey the rest of the way. Randomly sunk a thirty foot putt to save triple on seventeen, lol. Finished with a +13 49. Putting is coming along and my short wedge game continues to prop me up. Driver isn't great but hasn't particularly killed me lately either. Irons, hybrids and woods are just abysmal though. Hoping to get some work on that soon.

I do this quite regularly and it definitely helps to keep me in a round I might have otherwise given up on or been disappointed with. I've recently started trying to focus specifically on 3-holes at a time - from the first tee all the way to 18 green - and have seen some improvement with that as well. I find it especially useful during a difficult stretch of holes to help me temper expectations better. Sounds like you had a pretty good day. Keep it up!

  29. For some the source of the money is an issue and for others it isn't. If we look at anything in society people make choices and those choices are a big deal to some. We choose employers, we choose friends, we chose doctors, we chose who we buy things from, we chose manufacturers for products, we make choices on everything. The US is in turmoil because of peoples choices and people not accepting the choices that some make. If you don't like LIV, what it stands for, where the money comes from, or for some other reason then don't watch it. Maybe something will occur and they will shut down or maybe they won't. The PGA tour will do what any company does when they are losing employees, figure out why and try to make working for them more attractive. If Coca-Cola had given $2B to start the league the Pepsi lovers may not be happy. How about if it had been a gun manufacturer or planned parenthood?

Probably as you can manipulate most clubs to do various shots. We had specific tasks that we needed to do so there wasn’t a lot of time to experiment or figure out exactly how to elevate shots. I did like the club and based on my results in many cases my results were better than my normal club selection. The Ball seemed to have a lot of ball speed coming off the face so some shots weren’t the best but given a couple of hours to experiment it would be a solid addition to most players bags.

I will always call them that, I think they are original and cool. Why change them is my question? if someone can't figure what what a boom stick or shiny metal are are they MSG material in the first place. That's kind of a joke but not really.

  36. I think there is a difference between putting a family member/friend on the for a few weeks and their being a full time caddie. Brookes sister is always on the bag and is in essence a professional caddie. Also each players use if the caddie is different; some just use them to be a friend, hand them a club, and rake the bunkers; others get them engaged in club selection, calculating yardage, and green reading. What did Brooke’s sister not get done that would have potentially gotten her more wins?

  38. Don't disagree. I provided my opinion that the money being allocated seems to be going to the top players; which based on your statements about the LIV players; have enough money. Hearing PGA players repeatedly saying they playing for the traditions of the game are those that don't need more money and have enough for their lifetime so why allocate more money; let the tour survive based on tradition, being a good employer, and TV viewership. If the players are greedy they will go to LIV no matter how much money the PGA tour comes up with unless the PGA gives the PGA players LIV like money which I don't think will happen. If the product is as good as everyone thinks it will survive on its own merits. This is no different than any person assessing their current job and a new job offer. At the end of the day why is having another employer a bad thing? You can work for them if they offer you a job otherwise you can work for someone else. If you don't like the product that is produced don't watch.

    Riding Golf Carts

Live near SCG. One thing you might try is to inquire as to whether there is an email group for SGC. I live in Pebble Creek just south of SGC and there are carts on sale nearly everyday. I personally have a 2012 EZGO RXV with a jeep body which is pretty sporty. I will echo the comments on batteries. In AZ, lead acid needs really attentive care. I just went to Lithium, Roypow, and feel that is the way to go. However, in the six months I have had mine the price increase is around $800 to around $3500. Replacement for lead acid has also gone up. Tender loving care will get you about 5 years for lead acid in AZ. The lithium is guaranteed for 5 years but indicate something like 3500 cycles which is a lot more than 5 years of use. BTW, if you spent time in the service or are federally retired, check out Falcon Dunes attached to Luke AFB. It is a really great course to walk in the winter. Not all flat and very challenging.

  41. You assume, like the PGA tour and the players that support the tour, that it will lessen the players on the fence. We don’t know who is on the fence and what will make them go one way or the other. I personally see this as another employer making unsolicited job offers to people: You can accept the offer, you can reject the offer, and/or you can go to your current employer and ask for them to provide more. just like in this thread people will judge all the parties and say one or both the employers are bad, the person leaving is bad, they are greedy, etc. Companies go out of business regularly because they have lost great employees. The PGA tour is responding by doing what they think will enable their company to survive. As you said, LIV has a bottomless pit of money so the questions is whether the PGA tour will be able to compete with that. My thought is no because they don’t have the resources and regulations for non profits will hinder them. I believe they will have to find other means, besides money, to keep players and in my opinion, focusing on the top players is a short term fix that won’t survive in the long term.

    Ping ChipR

For those that don’t follow MGS social media you probably missed that they are doing a lab type test to evaluate the ChipR. I participated yesterday and found the product intriguing but with some limitations. The head is much heavier than I previously thought which I think helps avoid the chunky shot. I think with some practice it would be great for bump and run and chip shots were you have lots of ground to utilize. Basically the ball is going to roll out as you don’t create a lot of spin. When you need to elevate the ball or want it to stop quickly the club may be a disappointment. With the upright lie angle, thickish sole, and lower loft opening the face doesn’t produce reliable results. I think for a player that struggles with fat and thin shots around the green this could be a game changer. For players that want to do different types of shots around the green you will be disappointed and think it is a waste of a spot in the bag.
