I remember boot camp in your old stomping grounds. February 2009 every day was very reminiscent of whet we have right now.

Yup I think I mentioned in another thread - February (back in the late 60's)  at Great Lakes NTC get up at 5:00 then stand in line in front of the galley/mess building outside at 6:00 waiting for it to open at 7:00 WTH 🥶

Advance quickly to February 2023. Forecast today is low 70's sunny  with light winds  - tee time 12:12. I've paid my dues. ⛳

Yup, I did boot camp @ Ft Dix.  We had only the summer issue clothing when an ice blast hit Northeast, fun times.

Otoh you won't hear me complain when it is 115*. It is very hot and uncomfortable but I have always felt you can cry baby about the heat or the cold, but not both.

There is truth to that, we are enjoying a balmy 2*F this morning which is expected this time of here in these here parts.  Yeah I complain about it but only because [A] natural gas utility bill is double any other season of the year and [B] the body used hard and put away worn gets muscle and joint aches when it gets down to single digit still air or wind chill (or sitting too long in a room below (69*F)

Summer in the PG region inland required Nomex gloves to touch anything metal including personal weapons.  The only skin exposed to air was chin in middle of the chinstrap, nose and cheeks above chinstrap and below goggles, maybe 4 square inches total, everything else protected by heavy camouflage uniform, heavy desert boots, Kevlar helmet and 60 lbs of body armor and ordinance.  Daytime highs in unbroken sunshine were up there but vehicle air conditioning could bring it down 20*F ambient and vent temps were only about 95 that could be directed up an ungloved sleeve - refreshing!  Agreed, can't be a wimp about both ends of the scale.

Sorry to all who are going through that cold snap! Keep warm and hope all goes okay.

We are in a warmer wet season which is well annoying. Too wet to enjoy golfing, walk the dogs or do much outside but nice enough to really want to.

... Quite a difference ain't it Tom? I think you played in similar conditions I played in the midwest where one big rain could soak a course for a few days and then rain again a few days later. Spring was always abysmal. Now living in a desert the courses are all sand based and usually ready for play right after the rain stops! Especially the greens and although some low areas off the fairways that are a mix of clay/sand can have some standing water, it never lets more than a day.

Funny you should say that. I am still on distribution from my old course that is getting the same rain systems as I am getting. They come up from the gulf head up toward TN and slide across into NC. Daily I get a message that the course is closed in TN. (Red clay soil) I haven't seen my new one closed yet. (sandy soil) I'm not going to run out in the cold rain and play but I could if so inclined. Simulator is much easier, dryer and warmer!

... Oh I remember those days well. the last 2 May's before I moved from Chicago were the 2 wettest Mays in history and even the few days we could get out it was too wet to mow. Balls one inch off the fairway had to be stepped on to be found because the rough was so long. My first winter out here it didn't rain once from November thru the first of June. It was like a spaghetti western! This fall and winter we have had a ton of rain, or more accurately a ton of rain for a desert. Probably less than 3 inches in 4 months and none forecast for the near future. 🤪

We got a crazy day, +9/10, slightly foggy this morning but turned into a sunny overcast day. It was so nice that a local course opened for the day! I have never played golf in February before, so that was a cool experience. I unfortunately walked with my tour bag on a course with over 200' of elevation changes.... But still worth it

I like golf. You should like golf. If life is tough, play more golf!

Don't worry pay back is a b***h. When it's a beautiful 85 degrees here and it's 110 degrees there we will be sure to rub it in.

... 110* is my jam because I like it hot! And oh my does the ball fly at 110* 😇  Now when it gets to 115* you can rub it in all you want.
