2018 Official Forum Member Review - Wilson C300 Irons

Recommended Posts

Have gotten a few rounds in over the past week.  Clubs seem to be pretty solid and forgiving;  I am seeing minimal distance loss on mishits or thin shots.  Distance across the board is on par with my Callaway x-hot pros.  Not seeing any issues with the finish on my clubs.

One of my friends just got a set of the forged out of the blue. He loves them

I hit them a few times- wasn't real impressed...

Kind of “clicky”, to me.

Nothing wrong with that. Sound preference is different for everyone. Other than the sound why weren't you impressed?

The feel- not as soft as I was expecting mentally. But again, I only hit a few shots, so one could get used to anything. But remember, I'm a converted mizzey guy. Playing ap2's Now, on graphite, so that probably makes them feel soft too.

As a new member I have not read many of these reviews yet, but like others have posted, I love that we get this "intro" Stage 1 review.  It's fun to understand each reviewer's background and current level of play.  So, great Stage 1 reviews to the 4 that were chosen!  I'm looking forward to reading the Stage 2 reviews.

My guess is you hit one of the irons with the "power holes", which feel a little tinny to me. The 9, P, and Gap have a much more satisfying forged thump to them.

I think that is personal perspective. It was one of my questions coming out of stage 1; I was curious about how the feel/ sound and performance changed when the power holes went away. I don't notice any difference between the clubs. But that is me, it will probably depend on how sensitive you are in feeling the club during the swing and at impact.

I am quite sensitive. I cried during the opening short before Incredibles 2

^^^I was just going to post this. I don't agree with his comments on the C300 standard feel/sound, but I also don't play forged irons at all so I don't have a frame of reference. Also some of it's personal preference - what I think sounds like a solid "thwack" to him may sound clicky.

Yeah.....it's weird when he tests clubs in which he is not the target audience AT ALL for them and gives his opinion.

I hit both of them at demo day and agree with his opinion on the feel ... the forged just felt much better off the face than the cast did...that's not to say the cast didn't feel fine but there is a noticeable difference.

I'm liking the feel of them. As to the sound outside of the first time I hit them which sounded a little clunky I don't notice anything out of the ordinary. But I've played with them extensively - so maybe I just got use to the sound of them?

I'm finally getting to the range tomorrow to do the side by side comparison with my Ping's with a LM.

Ping G20's - even though they're older technology it's what I was fitted for and playing for the last 6 years.

Good stuff.... I was fit for those long ago but I didn't have the $$ to buy them back then so I'll be curious how the comparison goes.

I absolutely love the look of the forged irons, great top line! With the help of the power holes it looks like they keep up with everything around

Update on the scuffed 7i - after today's range session I took a magic eraser to it again, and the face by the toe is now smooth again. So that's good to see... and feel!

Interesting I never thought of using magic eraser. I've got lots of scuff marks on my C300's so will get to it tomorrow.

That's great to hear!! You'll be able to get back to enjoying the clubs now without that scuff annoying you.

I watched the Rick Shiels video and apart from him not liking the sound, everything else was positive. He was never going to like the sound and feel of the cast clubs, he will love forged for life.

As I get more rounds and time with these clubs under my belt, I need to figure out their distance. Not sure if I was that inconsistent with my last clubs or if these are just a touch longer overall especially with the shorter irons. 4 iron is becoming a question mark due to a lack of consistence, hybrid going back into the bag may be a longer term solution. Need to get some driving range time with the 4 iron to do a better assessment.
