The 10 thousand hour rule

So I went down to my local small custom golf shop. (Bunker Golf in Ventura). In order to get a perfect gapping of my wedges and shorter irons, so I could be exactly positive about how far everything is going to go especially in the scoring clubs. So I hit a bunch of balls and the guy that works there decided to have me hit some different clubs with different shafts, just for the heck of it. So what he was really doing was kind of giving me a fitting session at the same time. So we hit 1 million balls within 1 million different shafts in 1 million heads. The final set up that worked best for me was the srixon 585 forged had on a KBS -TGI 80 graphite shaft in stiff flex. My avg swing speed with a 7 iron was about 81 mph. But the funny thing that happened was that I started getting really tired at the end after hitting hundreds of balls. But the guy asked me to have just a few more since I was good and loose, so we can finalize the numbers. So then all of a sudden I just started hitting the ball as clean as I’ve ever hit -ball after ball after ball. I mean it was kind of strange how well I was hitting the balls after the point where I thought I was exhausted  but the guy asked me to have just a few more Swings. Probably 30 consecutive perfectly struck balls. And I mean tight little baby draws, and they were like 2 or 3 balls, then the next club, same thing,  but 10 or 12 yards further. All in a tight little line. From 80 yards with the 58°, to the 4 iron, to 190 yards. It was almost like an out of body experience, as I didn’t seem tired any more either. The shots seemed effortless. It was a total trip.

Theres an old concept called the “10,000 hour rule”, where athletes, musicians, artists etc, finally reach a level of mastering their trade. I wonder if there is something in the golf swing that’s similar, yet perhaps in a different way. Where you no longer are thing about how you are going to try to hit a shot. You now no longer think, you just hit, because your body just takes over, and your upper consciousness no longer wastes any “ram”. Your “hard drive” has now taken over with the basic mechanics.

maybe it was just a one time thing, probably ... I won’t know until tomorrow, but I just can’t quit thinking about how that all unfolded...

anyways, long story over, cheers

I have alway seemed to strike the ball better when I get a little bit tired. You’re right, it’s kind of like your mind is tired and you just don’t think about anything and just swing. It also seems to be that way for me when I M just chatting with my playing partners and not thinking about golf. Amazing how well I can hit a ball when I am just playing golf and not thinking.

Good luck..Its odd for me as ifIm sick or tired, golf gets worse. In my days of baseball, basketball, and softball, my game really peaked when I was dead dog tired or sick.
