Popular Post jbern
Good morning! Rain is starting this afternoon and might not let up until next week. So it's looking like I won't be able to get out to a course this week. It's going to eat me up when the DF3 arrives for the LAB DF3 test (it was spotted in Ohio a couple of days ago, so it should be to me in Michigan very soon)!! Work is full of meetings today, so hopefully I'll have a little time to catch up on forum during the meeting down-times. Have a good day everyone! @Northern Monkey - Very interesting, the contrast between the runner putter test and the DF3 test. The runner putters are designed to be tinkered with to get the best results and we are not supposed to manipulate ANYTHING on the DF3 putters because it will throw off the Lie-Angle-Balancing! Have fun tinkering today, if you get to it. @rkj427 - That's cool that you met a new to you neighbor! Popular Post ILMgolfnut
Good morning Spies! Back to work after my mental health day, which included a nap. Said nap might have contributed to weird night of sleep with numerous wake-ups, only some of which were feline-related. Anyway, today's plans also include Rypstick and Fit For Golf workouts and a trip to the dentist. Hopefully nothing there beyond a cleaning. @Dead Solid Bogey ready golf is just basically not waiting for the guy in front of you to hit to start your pre-shot routine. Figure out your yardage, pick your club and be ready to go. Two months from today I'll be playing my second tournament in Scotland, at the Struie course in Dornoch. First one is two months from yesterday. Can't wait! @skraeling I spent most of my life in tornado alley, once had a funnel cloud go directly over me at a track meet. Popular Post Wib081
Good morning MGS Yesterday was a bit hectic but I survived it. Went to the range while waiting for a delivery that was 2 hours late focused on a straight back takeaway as I had been getting too far inside and dispersion was awful of late. However, with the straight back focus my ball flight straightened out and distance began to normalized again. Worked the ball a bit to the right as well which was nice to see again. I don’t try and manipulate the club at impact, but rather grip it with it set a bit open and it was working on command again! Around 6:30-7:00 last night went to mow the lawn and my neighbor left me a gift. first one went great nice 40 yard pitch into the woods. Impact was a little higher than I like on the face but I was happy with it none the less Have a great day everyone! Of course, we had some storms move through last night so the game may be cancelled. Don't know yet. Other than that, we will see. Supposed to be nice and sunny and in the low 80's. Popular Post Kenny B
Good Morning everyone! Wind has died down a little; should be a relatively nice day at mid-60's temps and wind only 10-20mph. It's ramping up for a warm weekend!! Yesterday my wife took me to the flower place; got a few tomatoes, peppers, and a few other veggies to plant in the garden... filled up her SUV!! I'm off to the dentist at 7am for cleaning, then yard work and some range time this afternoon. Planning to walk 9 holes tomorrow morning... maybe 18 depending on how I feel. Have a terrific Tuesday and stay safe in the stormy mid-section of the country. Hope you are OK @skraeling. Why must the Lord be so angry with Wyoming? We are one of the last beacons of freedom….hell some people don’t even believe Wyoming exists. Look it up! Well you know what? Wyoming does exist and we get some of the funkiest weather in the country. But this is just ridiculous. I’m changing the subject before I lose it. Popular Post Wheelieb
Morning All, Got out for a before work 9 holes. Super wet for the base course and seeing as I wanted to make sure I got all 9 in before work I chose to ride even though it was cart path only. I got a good walking across the fairway in, cause there is no way I know how to play cart path ball. I can say that it being as wet as it was, there was almost not roll out on my drives. The greens were very receptive, except for the par 3's cause my tee shots couldn't find those surfaces. Wound up in the bunker short on the 5th hole and that bunker is taller than me to get out, so it's probably just a little over 6 feet as I am 5'11''. Shot an 8 over 44, I need to play a full 18 as the back 9 seems to be a little tougher as holes 10-12 all have water left of the fairway and the 12th is a par 3 over water. hole 14 is a tee shot over water and so is 15 a par 3. then hole 17 is a par 4 where the landing is severely down hill from the tee box, but water all along the right side past the green. HERE Great work on the article, @Josh Parker. Longer rounds have definitely become the norm in recent years. I do think a part of it is public courses stacking their tee sheets like major airlines stack seats. However, there are some common sense things that the average player can do to help speed up play, which you explained very well in your article. I'm happy nowadays to get a 4.5 hour round in, which seems preposterous. Couple that with usually an hour+ commute to and from the golf course and my day has practically vanished. Hopefully some people can take note and understand that it benefits everyone when you play ready golf and it doesn't have to take away from the experience whatsoever. rkj427, EasyPutter, ZJeb67 and 10 others 13 Quote Current WITB: Bag: MV2 Golf Bag Driver: TSR2 9.0º,Ventus Blue Velocore 6S Fairway: TSR2 3 wood 15º,Ventus Red Velocore 7S Driving Iron: U505 2-iron, Graphite Design Tour AD DI-85S Irons: P7CB (4-PW), Nippon Modus Tour 120S (testing in progress) Wedges: 50.09 SB, 54.11 SB, 58.11 SB Putter: Ai-ONE Jailbird Mini DB 35" Ball: Tour X
Popular Post Shrek74
Good morning, Spies!! Happy second Monday to you all. It feels like first Monday to me since I was off yesterday. But I digress. Weather looking good for 2 rounds of golf this weekend, albeit a little chilly at the start. But I'll take it compared to all the rain we've had lately. More rounds the better, as I want to at least have some type of movement come the MGS Forum golf trip in a few weeks. Plus, it's more time to work on my on-course play and management. I was actually really happy with that this past Sunday. Taking one more club than I would normally and swinging more controlled. Got me on more greens and closer to the hole on more than a few holes. As I work on the swing changes, this will be far more important than me trying to swing 100% all the time and possibly not making the proper swing. Speed will return as I get the swing changes more engrained. Anyway, everyone have a wonderful second Monday!! Popular Post EnderinAZ
Good morning spies! Well the first round of golf after 6 weeks of golf purgatory is in the books. Didn't play badly, but didn't play great either. No score under 4 or over 6. I walked all 18 holes in 85 degree sunshine and was good and tired by 9:30 last night. I am torn between doing a good long ride this afternoon or heading to the range and practice area. Wind will be the determining factor. @Josh Parker Good read. I did the math a while ago. The guys who spend 45 seconds writing their scores down while sitting next to the green in their carts add 13 and a half minutes to a round of just waiting for the green area to clear for the group behind them. @skraeling Do you find the Arccos app is fast enough? I found it slow and clunky. I am old and use 2 hands to enter stuff in my phone. Putting scores into that app while walking behind my Zip Navigator trundling across the fairway always took 15 to 20 seconds. Multiply that by my normal score of 85 (15 * 85) / 60 = 21.25 or over 21 minutes a round of me fiddling with my phone. Where it takes me just a few seconds to add my score to a score card. The app captures my shots for later analysis. If you can get that app to respond and get your info into it good and fast more power to you. I could not, so gave it up. The shot detection works well enough I usually just need to log tap in putts or if I pick up penalties etc. it’s almost too sensitive and will occasionally pick up me setting a club down. find it mostly useful to see wind direction and speed. Plus when I had new clubs getting rough ranges for them. my phones relatively new so it runs quick for me. Popular Post Tom the Golf Nut
Golf is not in my plans today (well at least not on the course). They are aerating the greens today and tomorrow with the big holes. Probably just be content with working from home and chatting with all of you. Much better than talking to my wife which inevitably winds up with "do you know what we need to do" or "I've been thinking". Shortly followed by "Are you listening to me". I dare not reply. We means me and me doesn't need any more projects added to my list. Boy, do I hate the aeration times of the season. Big holes take a week or two to heal. Why can't they schedule the aeration when it's a travel week for me? How inconsiderate . Just when Stella's getting her grove back. Now I won't be able to groove the putter for two weeks. Well, enough bitchin. I'll warm up the simulator and putt on my putting mat. Have a great day everyone. ILMgolfnut
Just now, Jmikecpa said: Trust me it was not my idea it was my wife and gym rat son’s idea. The way I look at it if it helps me build some strength and lose weight I am all in. I am currently at my college football weight which is not good for an almost 48 year old. One of the best parts of living at home is I was forced into going back to the gym and have been on the treadmill 4 days a week since end of November. I was informed that was Phase 1 and now we are onto Phase 2. I'm considering literally walking on my treadmill with my golf bag on my shoulders, for the same reason and to add some golf-specific conditioning. There basically is no such thing as golf carts in most of Scotland, unless you have a doctor's note (that includes the Old Course; doctor's note required). And even then there aren't many; some courses only have like 2 or 3 "buggies". The only reason I don't is that every course I've seen has push carts, so there are non-caddie options to avoid carrying your clubs. I just realized I honestly don't remember whether I carried my clubs or used a push cart on the Old Course, which tells you something about my state of sleep deprivation that morning. Last night I was looking online to see if there are any push carts that fold small enough to fit in my travel bag with my clubs. I think I found one, but for 5 or 6 pounds a round the rental isn't a big deal, and the added weight would probably cost me more than that with the airline. Popular Post Dcfrench3
Good Morning Golfers! Had a great and exhausting weekend getting the house ready for my kids 3rd b-day party. Had a good day at the zoo with a beautiful sunny day around 70 degrees all day. Hardest part of the day though was seeing it was so nice outside and then driving by a really nice golf course... I swear I just start foaming at the mouth lol Kenny B, Byrnzee, William P and 7 others 9 1 Quote Golfing is to focus yet not focus on your shot at the same time. Popular Post jordan1016
You don't know what you don't know as they say.... Morning Spies. Figured this would be a good forum for this, and some, if not all of you will get a laugh out of it.... Beautiful Tuesday morning in sunny Delaware. No round planned today, but, had a lesson organized, so was looking forward to that and getting back in the lab with my instructor and trying to figure out why after grinding all winter with regards my swing/path, (previosuly was really negative), I have been missing greens (the dreaded left miss) and not scoring as I should really be, especially in the rounds that I have actually been out this year with a card in my hand. So much so that I have been tinkering with the idea of going to a proper fitter and shelling out for a new set of irons, as I have never done that before, especially as I know that my swing has gotten better and I should be seeing SOME results on the scorecard. Post warm-up chat etc, we really get into it and I explain what's been going on. So he has me start by hitting my 7iron. Path is good overall, but as I get into it and get flowing, the left misses start to show. Using trackman, he quickly identifies that my face angle is closed on impact. Start to look at the grip. Left hand. Good. Neutral to slightly strong. Right hand. Far too strong. Easy fix right...... Neutralize it a bit and that will keep the face angle from getting too closed on impact. Except it's not. I cannot grip the club the way I feel like I need to in order to hit the ball correctly. My feeling is "I am going to drop this club, its going to fly out of my hand" Explain this to my Instructor, so he goes to my bag, and takes out my driver. "Ok, lets change this up. Show me the driver. let me see how you're gripping the driver". Grip my driver. Grip looks good, so he tells me to peg one up and swing. Good Swing, Good contact, good path, good face. Good shot. Hit another couple. Same results. Cue me getting really frustrated as to why I don't have the same feels with my irons .... he lifts my 7 iron that I have set down. Him "Do you know you have midsize grips on these?" Me "No...." Him "let me see that driver" Looks at driver, 3 wood, hybrid, wedges. All standard-sized grips......... $90 later and I am now the proud owner of a set of irons with grips that are the right size for my hands. And I feel like an absolute moron. Moral of the story? Sometimes the little things make all the difference. And, (for now ) I can shelve this idea of a new set of irons. Hit em Straight! Popular Post RichL85
It's been a week and it's only Tuesday. Not counting all the work related items that have been causing problems, we found a bit of a flea problem on one of the dogs, so treating all of the pets and the house has been a chore. The cats seem to be doing fine, but one dog still seems to be the main culprit. It's been annoying. It's also caused my wife to go back to her wants to rip out all carpet of the house and replace the flooring throughout the house. Not that I'm entirely opposed to it, but I don't look forward to the hassle that will entail. The bigger issue has been my father-in-law who lives with us. He's been complaining about back problems for about 6 months now. Assumed it was just getting older, but eventually he got bad enough to get some tests done. About 2 weeks ago he sat down with my wife and I and told us what was going on. Initially they found a small lump on one of his lungs back in November. Another test in March showed that the lump grew in size, and while waiting for his insurance to approve a biopsy, he finally had enough and went to the ER over the weekend. They did another X-ray and a CT scan and now there are multiple lumps on his lungs, a few of which are pressing into his ribs, which explains the back pain. Long story short, obviously the ER can't diagnose it with certainty, but lung cancer is the most likely explanation. So from what I hear, the next step is getting a referral to an oncologist and going from there. Obviously my wife is pretty messed up over this, even to point of feeling guilty about things like times she didn't go to lunch with her dad on a day off or something because she already feels that there is limited time left now. So that whole situation has thrown our daily lives for a loop, and we are trying to manage the situation as best as we can, but it's probably going to have some significant impacts on daily life.
