There were sounds of a graduation not too far away when we were playing Mid South on Saturday morning and on one hole on Pine Needles in the afternoon was a graduation party in a backyard overlooking the green. Seriously the cheering from the celebration gave the impression we were playing on course for a championship and the best foursomes were just a short distance away making incredible shots. For the longest time @Lacassem would purposely set up super closed on tee shots. It was only on tee shots and it worked for him lol Because of that, I am like you and wouldn't really go to point that out because I don't know what sort of shot someone trying to hit or how they regularly set up. Agree, I am not going to tell someone to adjust their setup as I don’t know what they are trying to do. @cksurfdudewas hitting push draws that were coming back to the middle of the fairway, no reason to suggest a change. I did comment that he should hit his short putts harder since he was leaving the 3-5 footers a few inches short to avoid going past the hole. I just said my instructor told me that even going 3 feet past just leaves you a putt that you should be making 99% of the time. I think there's a time and place for suggestions, and when I'm playing I personally make enough mistakes, it's asking for bad karma to point out someone else's inconsistencies. With that "time and place" concept in mind, I think a great idea would be to organize some MGS outings specifically with the purpose of linking up those seeking free instruction with those willing to donate their time to do some teaching while at the same time enjoying the benefits of a social meet-up. A little extra leadup, and some extra attention to groupings, pairing up people with strengths and weaknesses in the foursomes that they can share insights, even if there's no certified pros or coaches in the group, could really help a lot of people I think. A group might have a single digit or someone who once was, a mid cap with a great short game, someone who struggles with Driver and a long hitter. A shamble format might be fun. Prizes could be more geared around the best improvement by the end of the day, with foursomes sharing the prize with the individual who wins. If someone is playing shaped shots and hitting fairways stance is irrelevant. But honestly, that is pretty rare. Sometimes it is a correction for perceived ball flights or more often just an illusion of how they think they are lined up. Like you guys, it is rare for me to mention it unless someone is struggling and making obvious corrections for their stance and they are upset or ask if I can see anything they should fix. I will lay a shaft along their toe line and another shaft behind the ball down the target line. They should look like train tracks but they do not. ... I am always amazed when they line up to a corrected train track with the shaft still there and say "Wow, this just looks waaaay off!" then proceeded to "dance' with their feet until they are right back where they started. It is a common problem and takes real diligence to overcome what your eyes are telling you. StrokerAce, GolfSpy_SHARK, EasyPutter and 5 others 8 Quote Driver: Qi10 10.5* ... Jwc5149
Alrighty then..... As I have run out of tears from having one of the worst rounds ever (round 2 @ Pine Needles), I will have to say that @cnosil is my kryptonite... To start - what a GREAT group of guys to spend time with. Glad everyone made it home ok, as there were some long drive (pun intended) times after playing on Sunday. Started out Saturday at Mid-South with a 76 and then BOOM, a 28 point swing in the WRONG direction at Pine Needles. I did mention Kryptonite, right??? If you are a Marine like I am, I will pause here for you so you can take your shoes off to count that high (it would be a 104 - I think). Last time i played there (week before LPGA US Open) I shot a 78 - this time - 104... WTF?????? Have no rhyme or reason. But really, WTF???? After some amazing post round moonshine punch, I came back from the dead and shot an 84 at Talamore on Sunday. All in all another great trip and soooo looking forward to the next one. @cksurfdude - apologies.... yellow ball MADE me do it..... To my knowledge no full moons were sighted during this trip.. Golfspy_CG2 - Thanks again for setting it up..... OK, here's a stone-lock promise: As long as you pick a date that I am available (I'm also a musician, so I have Friday and Saturday gigs, including some Saturday afternoons, such as tomorrow), I will come down to MD and play golf with y'all guys! Central MD, which I assume means the Hagerstown area, is definitely not all that far for me (less than 3 hours on most days) richk9holes, cnosil, cksurfdude and 3 others 6 Quote DR - Callaway Paradym AI Smoke Max, Newton Motion 4-Dot shaft 4W - Titleist TSR2, Newton Motion 4-Dot FW shaft HYB - Sub 70 949X 21*, original HZRDUS Black 85-S shaft 7W (if played) - Titleist TSR, ACCRA TZ6 7S Irons - Cobra King Forged Tec X, KBS TGI graphite shafts Wedges - Edison 2.0, 47* (bent to 48*), 53* and 57* (bent to 58*), KBS TGI 100 Tour S Putter - Evnroll ER10 ""Outback” Mallet Ball - Maxfli Tour-X CG (2023) or Vice Pro Plus Bags - Vessel / Ghost stand bags Cart - MotoCaddy M7 Remote (without the remote) Spoiler Lots of short game practice has made this a strength; now the driver is causing problems! Also thanks to everyone for the intros, it makes putting names, faces and personalities together, and by personalities, I mean @Jwc5149 of course My course is always open! well except for those days where I have done an exceptionally good job of selling and we fill all 36 with outings Be careful. That kind of flattery will end with a knock on the door from @Jwc5149 and a demand for the verb version of a certain piece of silverware 9 hours ago, richk9holes said: Excellent point. Long drive and closest to pin on the final few holes after everyone has a few hours together as a team. I would have made for easy pickings for a swing coach. EasyPutter
(T)Less Driver Update: the one passed along from @Yellow Ball is continuing to make a remarkable improvement to my game. I don't know if it is YB somehow convincing the club that hitting his cousins well for me would be hilarious to my comfort zone for my +25 handicap. I hope he doesn't read this and get that silly smirk of his that his voodoo is working. First drive of the day yesterday went longer on the downhill par-4 1st fairway than I have ever done. Only a 9i to be on the green and L.A.B. DF2.1 lag putt for an easy par. Magic continued the entire 9 hole round, and on the par-4 4th hole I intended to stay on the fairway side of the trees at the dogleg left off the tee but the shot went 10 degrees left of the intended line and for the first time ever I cleared the tree tops for a 169 yd hit my partners watched fly in disbelief (they've seen me play often in the past few years) leaving a 6i distance to the green. 3 pars for the day all on par-4s and a par-5 using Mr (T)Less on a 1 inch high tee. 42 +7 which if I had time for a full 18 would have been interesting to see how it would play out for the back 9. Better drives than I have had all year to this point and combined with hybrid for 2nd shots that are also working it seems I could be finally getting back to the golf I had last summer before our northern outdoor golf season ended. YB what have you done? I think you had this planned all along and I'm not sure what to do about it.
