Shlax
Just for fun discussion: What club(s) currently in your bag is(are) untouchable(s) and why? Let’s say that you get the chance to pick any club(s) (let’s keep it off the rack for now) of your choice at your local golf store, free of charge. Which club that you currently own will not/cannot be replaced? For me, I think that the only club that I would be reluctant about letting go is my stock TaylorMade Sim Max 3W with Fujikura Ventus Blue shaft . It’s not a rare club nor was it especially expensive. It’s just a club that I hit so freakishly and effortlessly well that I am afraid that its replacement won’t perform or suit my swing as well. sirchunksalot
Right now I'm happy with the make-up of my bag, but if I had to choose it would be the hybrids. Mr. Mushball
Oh man, this could be a holy war. Thankfully this form is all about open opinion and discussion. I for one will welcome all opinions, discussion, criticism and assistance. Thank you all!!! At this point for me the one club that I would keep in my bag is my Wilson BT-2 Brass Tech putter with the Garsen Ultimate grip. I use this every single round and has been a big improvement over the other putter configurations I've putted with. Admittedly, this is a small sample size. I used this putter with it's standard grip for 17+ years, then picked up a KS-1 putter. That was fine and all, but didn't really result in lower scores and felt less intuitive. Once I switched the grip on the BT-2, it was like a long lost love, but better. I do have a hard second. It's my Adams Idea Tech 5HY hybrid. It has a sweet carbon shaft and I can always hit it straight, even if it isn't long. Mishits seem to be mostly ok except in extreme cases. It's basically equivalent to my 6-iron these days, but stays in the bag due to the forgiveness, ease of use and trajectory. sirchunksalot, CudaKota66, Josh Parker and 2 others 5 Quote Driver - PXG GEN5 0311FX 9°+1° flat - ProjectX Cypher 40 5.5 trimmed to 44" Wood - PXG GEN5 0311FX 4-wood flat - ProjectX Cypher 50 5.5 Hybrid - PXG 0211 22° flat - ProjectX Cypher 50 5.5 and Adams Idea 5HY - 39" Fubuki z60 Hy Flex-R shaft Irons - 5-PW Callaway Rouge ST Max w / ProjectX Tour Flighted 105 steel shafts Wedges - Kirkland Signature G/S/L Putter - Kirkland Signature KS1 Wilson Brass Tech BT-2 with Garsen ULTIMATE grip Balls - Titelist Pro V1 (PROTO 388) and Pro V1x (PROTO 348 test balls from current '22 ball test. rkj427
For me it is my Titleist TSR3 driver. Fitted for it with a different shaft originally but upgraded shaft after a second fitting. Hitting between 65 - 75 percent of fairways with it, and when I do miss so far this year only (1) shot left me with an issue where I had to take an extra stroke. KOG
Probably my 3 wood. Exotics EXS 220 I built with Tensei Blue ck stiff @ 43" Easiest 3 wood I ever owned and I couldnt get any improvement from a recent fitting compared to current Stealth, Ping G, and TM offerings. Easy swing gives a high launch with low spin but strong descend angle so It could hold a green. So if I mess up my tee shot, I know I can get 250 on the second 8/10 times. Very easy and long off the tee too and can even shape it. Perfect head shape. I think this model is Exotics best FW wood followed by the XJ1 which this replaced 3 years ago. revkev
This is a fun topic - I can’t keep it off the rack though because I was fit for everything in my bag. However my Ping G410 7 and 9 wood would have been available off the rack in their day so if that’s the parameter then they are it. Both have been tried by any number of friends. One of those friends was on eBay before we got to the parking lot post round seeking the 9 wood out. If it a personal question about my own bag it’s undergone a significant make over this season. New driver, irons and wedges. I’d say everything from driver through PW is safe. The two Indi wedges are getting close to being safe as is putter. Shapotomous
Given that I have changed irons, putter, driver and 3 wood a couple times over the years that I have had the same hybrids in the bag I have to go with the old Snake Eyes hybrids. An 18* is always in the bag and the 23* and 27* are once in a while swapped out for a 4 and 5 iron (less often as I get older). They are probably 20 years old and have beaten out a few potential replacements over the years. I do not have the hooky miss with them that I seem to get with other hybrids. The head / shaft combo works well for me so they stay in the bag. Middler
Even though I don't replace clubs often, I've never had any irreplaceable/favorites - because I know bad shots are operator error, not equipment issues. Doesn't stop anyone from having clubs they believe in or don't - many of the guys I play with have one or more clubs they insist they just can't hit. And of course with that mindset, they can't... I guess I could say I've never met a hybrid I liked (I've owned and really tried to play 2), but FW's and long irons easily fill those needs. BIG STU
For me it is the old V-Steel 7 wood. I have had it in my bag since it was new and it is dependable. Actually I am pretty well set on what is in my bag now. I recently resurrected my old Ping B-90 I broomstick that I have had some 15 years now. I played it a couple of years and put it in the back of the building. Ever since I had my accident I have had nerve damage and conventional putting bending over makes the nerves in my back twitch. I went back to it after I saw the success Lucas Glover had with his. I am putting well with it and do not hurt and twitch. I never anchored before and I do not anchor now. Willie T
My bag has always been a traveling road show of mixes - I tend to change the irons, the wedges most. However two constants remain, the Ping G400 3h is my big workhorse - it is a true universal soldier. I can punch out of rough, hit a sweet draw or curvy fade around the corner. Also the ball just sounds solid each time I swing. Right behind it is the Odyssey Versa 7. That putter kicked out its predecessor, Odyssey White Steel 5 after a long battle. BMDubya
My SC Newport LN TEi3! It’s literally been in my bag since 98/99. Now I have tried other putters & still do. Yesterday, the epoxy had come loose from the head & I had to improvise using my driver in broomstick fashion. And wow, that worked out miraculously, luckily! If I had another choice, it’s probably the 2nd oldest club in my bag. It’s a 20° Adams Tour Proto hybrid. I can’t remember the exact timing I put this in the bag, but somewhere around 2009/2010. It just flat out works. It’s lofted as a 4 iron, which I also play in my Srixon 785 irons. But they go two different distances & flights, which I love. I’m typically a golfer that if it works, I stick with it. Played my Ben Hogan Apex Wdge pro irons for the better part of 13/14 yrs. Sweet spot have beautiful wear patterns. On a whim, I went & got fitted for the Srixons back in 18/19, and been playing them ever since. Have a somewhat older driver, Cally Epic Flash triple diamond. But it flat out performs. I test drivers every spring, and nothing knocks this out of the bag. I know the face is probably getting thinner & thinner, and will probably cave eventually. But I plan on using it until it does. I was gonna say the driver would be my club that would stay put, but I literally try replacing it every year, just with no luck!
