cksurfdude
After a series of seriously declining rounds my golfing confidence was getting a bit shaken .... which was then followed by an extended layoff due to family stuff .... which was followed the past week by a series of three increasingly better Par 3 rounds .... which was followed up yesterday with a (regulation) 9-hole round played from the forward tees with just a set of old wedges and an extra 4H .... which resulted in me having one of my best 9-hole rounds! Not sure exactly where I ended up but I think it was +10 with mostly bogeys - at least two or three of which I had a chance for a par putt but just missed - plus one par (with an outside chance on a birdie putt), two doubles (nothing worse; one was a 3 putt), no penalties. Even tho I felt like I threw away a shot on almost every hole with a mis-hit, overall I had more good and playable shots that were moving in (generally ) the right direction ... Popular Post HarryC
Yesterday I played the Championship course at the MacDonald Portal Hotel, Golf and Spa complex (in the UK) with a close friend of my who plays off 18. It was a quiet day so for a bit of fun we played off the Championship tees (whites) which took the course from 6,504 yards to 7,037 yards - the longest course I've played to date. Due to the length and the 24 degrees sunshine we decided to use a buggy for the first time and that was a good laugh too. The buggy hire actually cost more than the green fee! £15/$20ish? to play and buggy hire was £30/$40ish. (We are quite spoilt in my area - There are about 9 quality clubs in a 15 mile radius of where I live. When we booked in we were told there was a big competition happening the weekend beginning the 13/14th of July. It turns out that they are hosting the PGA European Pro Tour so the course is closed from the public to play from Thursday onwards. The greens were in amazing condition and the best I'v ever played on. It felt like putting on ice. That took a few holes to get used to and a resulted in a few dreaded 3 putts. Anyway - 18 holes later I managed to beat my buddy and score the lowest round I've ever had. I scrapped round with a 94 (21 over) whereas he did a 96. I even managed to hit a few bombs and send it (for me) off the tee. I've now the best Arccos handicap I've had. Just need to try and get my competition handicap lowered from 32 – just go to pot in comps for some reason. I’ve attached a few pictures for you all too. Popular Post Kenny B
Monday walking round with the guys today. I shot +3 and easily beat all of them. One guy is considerably longer off the tee than I am, but I'm much better around the greens. I thinned my 9i tee shot straight at the pin on the par 3 #4 hole playing 140y; landed into the face of the greenside bunker with a 3 foot lip. Hit my new Callaway 60º PM Grind, barely cleared the lip, rolled to the hole, hit the pin... and didn't drop. Tap-in par. On our par 5 #5 hole playing 540y, my buddy poked a nice draw down the middle about 250y. I absolutely "crushed" one that would have been right there with him, except this tree jumped out in front of my ball at 200y out; dropped straight down. I hit the tree near the top of it. LOL! edingc
- 40 (+4) - 4/8 FIR - 3/9 GIR (2 birdies) - 15 Putts Course was very busy this morning, so I played the back nine. I'm really happy to see my last few scores were not flukes. Amazing how much better golf you can play when you create space for your arms on the downswing. Had two chip-ins, one for birdie after a bad tee shot on the only par 3, and another from about 30 yards to save par on No. 16 after a bad drive and two punchouts. Driver was not great today, straight on some holes but short, longer on others but left. I'd happily take 250 and straight, but at the moment it's either 230-240 straight or 255-275 left, with the occassional block right. Two three putts that just lipped out, and I lost a ball into the water on the par 5 because my second shot left me a not great lie in a part of the course hammered by water this spring. Chunked a wedge into the irrigation pond protecting the green. My biggest problem now is just ensuring I work on consistency from shot-to-shot. I tend to get a little loose with my head about midway through my rounds, which causes it to move forward on the downswing. The movement results in all sorts of issues until I really focus on correcting it. MaxEntropy
In our league last night, I played, for me, some pretty boring golf.... I want more boring golf. 4 pars, 5 bogies, 16 putts, no real stress. I had one penalty, but it was a shortish par 5 so was able to recover for a bogey. I did get a really bad bounce on one drive. Our 4th hole has a service path that crosses the fairway about 210 yards out. I've always wanted to accidentally hit the path with my tee shot to see how much of a bounce you can get. Yesterday, I hit my tee shot dead straight, down the middle. Normally, I carry the path by about 10 yards, but we were into a slight breeze. It must have hit the edge of the path or something weird because it kicked ~45 degrees right, putting me under a tree forcing me to play left and try to fade the ball. The ball didn't fade, hit a tree left of the green, but fortunately kicked into the middle of the fairway a bit short of the green. I am impressed with the durability of the Z Star - after two solid impacts, there was some discoloration, but no real damage to the surface. The only real problem I had was with club selection. Since my back continues to feel really good and my swing seems much more free (the heat and humidity may have played a role too), I flew two greens by about 15 yards early in the round which finally convinced me to club down 1 from "normal". sp0rtsfan86
Played a few times over the past week and week and a half. Shot two rounds in the 90s which were awful mainly due to my lack of any accuracy off the tee. I've figured out it's mostly because I'm so far right. Get it out of your system because your first major is a week away. After playing with you less toe hang is my advice but then again you saw me putt so it's like taking religious advice from a porn star. Time to try something new.Why do you struggle with putting and how do you practice? StrokerAce
1 minute ago, cnosil said: Why do you struggle with putting and how do you practice? I wasn't used to the speed of the greens and the pace threw me off the first 10 holes; last 8 I had 2 putts all the way in. The putter I was using has a heavy head so it was hard to get a feel. I practice at home on my putting mat each night and I practice at various ranges when I can get out there. I think a big part of the problem was the putter. Just never got comfortable holding it in my hands and getting a feel for the pace and I left myself some long second putts. Better days ahead! 296hole-in-one
Great round! I had a similar experience my last round. After finally physically recovering from a second hip replacement surgery, I was playing my best rond in five years. I was playing in three hole stretches, per the advice of my pro, so that I wouldn't get ahead of myself or start thinking of a potential final score. Unfortunately, I finished +6 on the last four holes to finish at 82. Not bad for my current 14.9 hcp!Sent from my SM-T597V using MyGolfSpy mobile app cnosil, MaxEntropy, cksurfdude and 2 others 5 Quote 296hole-in-one WITBDriver - Ping G400 Max 10.5* or Titleist 917 D3 10.5*.
