Sluggo42
Got into a killer groove today as I went by myself, and had nobody in front or behind me so it was just a day without any thought except for myself- If you ever get a chance to do that, I suggest doing so. It really frees the mind... And now I can't wait for tomorrow's round with my buddies, to see if that flow continues... Golfspy_CG2
My last 4 or 5 rounds have been disappointing. All but one of them I felt I hit the ball well, but just couldn't get it in the hole and led to scores of 52-56. 9 hole league. Last night I struggled badly on the range. Thought it was going to be ugly. Started off our first hole by being jail on the approach. Probably 1 foot from a being a triple. But I got up and down making a 10 footer for par. With the exception of one more par. The rest of the round was like that. And ended up with a 46. Which is right at my index. Just managed to keep the ball in front of me and relied on several good wedgw shots and a few good putts. That said it easily coild have been a very good 42 or 43, did to 2 horrible 3 putts and one missed par putt from point blank range of like 3 feet. Interesting round. chisag
... Last 2 rounds have been a struggle. Wet and soft fairways and greens because we are in a draught and they have been heavily watering which has made chipping and putting a little more difficult. That said, it is up to me to adjust and I just haven't done it well. I usually have 3-6 birdies or more a round and the last 2 rounds I have had zero birdies. I have had opportunities of course but I just haven't converted on the slower, bumpy greens. Canucklehead
Mom called me up a couple days ago and said we're going out Wednesday morning! Had a great time and somehow I shot 83. Thought I did well going out 44 and felt I was lousy coming in with my old slice starting to show its ugly head with the longer sticks a few times but still managed a 39. Had a number of shots inside 140 that finished in another area code of the green. I honestly don't plan on doing much of anything different on these (I think?) and generally want to approach par-5's simply as long par-4's. Hit driver on both expecting to have a lay-up 3 or 5W since I'm not overly long anyhow. I stopped using driver just because it's in my head. I just use my best iron until I get close enough to get there with something else. It gets me on in 4. But it turned my average 7/8 on that hole into a steady 6. Could it be less if I took driver? Probably but at least I'm no longer shooting 8s or worse because my drive went OB. The 2 dbls didn't make me happy just didn't focus. 1 birdie helped ease the pain. We were short 1 player and a guy who hasn't played with us in a while joined us. First 2 tee shots he killed them! I had to check it out and he had new driver and clubs. A fitter switched him FROM senior shafts to regular shafts and woods/irons with LESS offset. I almost always play my 5W (don't have a 3W). The only reason to not hit it is if I have a downhill lie. Lot's of those in fairways on my course. Then I hit a hybrid. That "layup" puts me around 100-115y for a PW. For us not long off the tee players, we have to hit as much club as possible for our second, otherwise we are hitting another long club for our third. It sounds to me that PA#9 should spend more time practicing those second shot clubs and lies. Practice, practice, practice!! I spent a few weeks last year hitting balls off downhill lies because I had several of those shots on par 5's, and I always wasted a shot getting to the green. I found out that more loft is my friend. Kenny B
I played with the guys from my club on Monday, the hottest day of the year so far... 107º. I'm the young one at 71. The oldest one is 78 and he walked, so I decided to walk also. Our combined age is 149. The other two guys are 74 and 76; combined age is 150. They decided to ride. Well, the oldest one quit after nine holes; so did the 74 year old, so I decided to cart up for the back nine. Glad I did!! I shot +4 on the front and +1 on the back for a 77. The best thing about riding that day was we at least had a breeze when we were moving. I would rather hit a 6 iron and another 6 or 7 iron. If you hit your 5W consistently than that is what works best for you. But for me I would rather have a longer club in than a possibly chunked or topped 3W. For me there is a 50/50 chance I would have a wedge or a 2 iron in. I would take a 7 iron every time over that. perseveringgolfer
Club champs last qualifying round today, hit the ball quite well but missed a lot of greens. Putting was outstanding (at last) only 11 putts front 9 for 1 over (told you I missed lots of greens) 19 putts back 9 though including missing the hole completely on a straight 2 footer bogied 2 par 5's after being green high in 2 Grrrrr 76 gross which might get me into the finals day which is knockout for last 8 Kenny B, Rickp and GB13 3 Quote Driver Awaiting NEW Driver (after 10 yrs) 4 Wood Callaway Big Bertha Steelhead plus 4+ Callaway shaft in 'Firm' flex Hybrid Titleist 910H 19* Diamana ahina 'flower' shaft in 'S' Irons Mizuno MP18SC 4-PW N.S Pro Modus3 Tour 105 in 'S' Wedges Callaway Mack Daddy forged in black 50* and 54* KBS Tour in 'R' Putter 'YES' Tracy 11 C groove 34.5"
Shankster
Had the best mediocre round of my life. I bogeyed all of the par 5's and and had 2 doubles. But.... I only missed one putt inside of 12', a 4 footer on 18. My putting practice has paid off. I drained a few 20+ as well. A few 8-10's for birdies. So... now I need to figure out the driver. I used it 4 times today and it cost me a stroke each time. Rickp, GB13, perseveringgolfer and 3 others
cksurfdude
Played an 18 hole Par 3, with holes from 60 to 100 yds and one 105 yd Par 4 (it doglegs 90 around scrub pines and thick underbrush); so it's great wedge / short approach practice. Wind was 20+ and picked up a bit while we were out; the two 9s are arranged in loops so each hole the wind was a little different. Did really well keeping control of the ball and heading towards the green. A few shots fell short, two or three hit the green but rolled off long, and only two were totally fluffed short-right. Best shot probably #18 100 yds with the freshening breeze coming out of the front-left and the pin to the right on a downslope. Set up to punch it out long and left and watched the ball go straight on line, then get pushed up a bit by the wind and then pushed to the right after its apex .. to end up inside a foot above the hole. Overall played much better vs prior outing at this spot earlier this season when I was kinda pleased with how I'd done then .. so making good progress this year! Kor.A.Door
After 2 months of being closed for repairs, our course is open. It has rained here all week, so they haven't been able to cut the rough, BERMUDA rough. Some of you know what I'm talking about. The kind of rough where you can stand right on top of your ball, and can't see it rough. On hole 3 I had about 30 yards to the green, in the thick rough down by a drain. I took a full swing with a wedge in hopes of just getting it out and somewhere up by the green, with my full swing, it hit the ball 20 feet, straight right still in the rough. I have never played in rough like this today, it was absolutely brutal. I shot 80 which in the conditions we played today is really good. Standing on the tee box the only thought was hit it in the fairway. If you were in the rough from 150 yards, you could not get to the green it was that thick.
