sirchunksalot
44 minutes ago, Kenny B said: Merry Christmas everyone from Kenny B and Mrs. Kenny B. Well, it looked really nice out this morning but it was 21º at 6am. The course had a 3 hour frost delay, so our tee time at 9:46 didn't happen until almost 1pm. Not many people out playing on Christmas Eve. My wife and I walked the front nine (par 37); the greens were frozen underneath a slightly melted top layer. Had to play "old man golf", which I do very well. Had 4 bogeys and 1 birdie for a +3 round of 40. Had a 360º lip out that would have been a birdie on #7. Here I am walking up the hill to the #8 tee after missing that putt. The mounds of grass you see are all over the course separating fairways, so the rough can have some tricky lies. Here's my wife walking down the par 5 #9 about to hit her 3rd shot into the green... pond on the right, grass mounds on the left. She made a par. We became members at our current course in January 2016. I found this pic I took on December 18, 2015 at our old golf course. Quite a difference in both the course and the weather!! Aside from the cooler weather, it looks like it was a good day to be out there. I'm glad you and your wife had a good time and were able to get a round in. tony@CIC, Kenny B, GolfSpy_SHARK and 2 others
GolfSpy_SHARK
Impromptu sim round. Got there a little late and only got 11 holes in but went +3 and only putted 3 of the holes (10’ gimmies) Chipping felt so much better today and it showed. fixyurdivot
37/42 at Mesa Del Sol. I was -2 thru 6. Had a great drive on #7 and then popped my approach into the lake. One double and the two birdies are gone. Shook it off, got my 3 on #8 and was on the GIR on par 5 #9. Just needed to get it down in two putts for my first even par nine in awhile. Missed a 20" comeback putt . Started the back with a double after having my drive bounce through a fence gate. Settled down and had a couple of chances to get back strokes but putts just wouldn't drop. Still happy with another sub 80 round though. CarlH
Our group had three 77s and 1 bozo comes in with an 83. Meet Bozo. Ball striking wasn't up to snuff (fairways were soaked!). Popular Post sirchunksalot
I played nine holes today adding to my horrible scoring rounds this year with a 55. I hit one fairway, no greens, and had 17 putts that included 2 3 putts. It wasn't all bad, just a little frustrated with how my game is going. My driving was meh, my approach and chipping was a disaster, and my putter was red hot. I told my wife today that the only club I haven't had a desire to replace is the putter, weird huh? The shots I'm most proud of and will use as a foundation going forward was a 3 wood I hit from 190 onto the green, which would have been a GIR if not for slicing a ball off the planet into some trees. I was 50 feet away for the putt, but to hit a green from that far was awesome. I had another shot in the par 5 6th I stuck to two feet from over a pond....After hitting the previous wedge into the water. i was just on the right side of the bridge (from the picture POV) and hit the side of the bridge. The last good shot old the day was to finish the round out, I hit putter from of the green into the hole. After the round I did what I should have done before the round and hit the range and started hitting the ball well. I guess the reason I didn't was when I got to the course, they were taking cash only because the system was down and I had to run to the ATM. It's fifteen minutes each way and I was worried I might not get the round in before dark. I did figure out I'm over swinging the club and after adjusting was hitting the ball like I wish I would have during the round. I'm hoping to play again Wednesday, my wife wants to go out with me and I love those round where she rides along. I played yesterday and the starter told us "No pin locations today because the Senior League had their year end tournament but moved up to the red tees and placed pins in the hardest positions on the greens." So I matched your two 3 putts and would have had 2 more but the ball rolled off the green so the next one didn't count as a putt. Not sure how this could have been fun for these guys because at least 7 pins were a few feet off the edge on a downslope so the only way to stop the ball was if it rolled in the hole. Others were on the side of slopes. I was joined by a decent player (Justin) around 35 and his Dad (Rick) and they were very frustrated as they don't get out a lot together. Rick was a high. index played and just picked up every green after 3-5 putts. Justin had quite a few 3 putts, several 4 putts and a 5 putt. I mostly just let the ball roll off the green and then had a short uphill putt coming back and then starting playing for a shot just off the green LOL. ... Not too annoying as I came home from sunny 70* to watch the Peccker game in freezing and windy snow so I am still just happy to be in the warm sunshine even of the greens were basically unplayable. We have a "Greens keeper revenge day" at my club sometime mid summer. Absolutely brutal. It is not fun. You have to hit the hole or its off the green or sometimes roll 30 feet away when you started off only five feet away. On hole 11 the pin was on the back of the green. I missed a putt by two inches, stopped pin high right side of the cup. Then it rolled back the entire length of the green and another 10 feet off. No posting scores or counting putts that day. Way back in the dark ages of the 70's when I worked at the course we would do cross country golf in the evenings as we waited for one or two foursomes to finish so we could lock up. The favorite "hole" was the driving range tee to 12th green which was about as close to corner to corner on the property as you could go. We played it as a par 10, I just did a google earth straight line path on it and it is about 900 yards. But we played a couple doglegs in it to avoid the trees adding a good bit of length. I haven't played in a greenskeepers revenge event but did see the set up for a course near here. Besides the unholy pin locations, a couple of the par 3's had the tee markers in the sand trap of the nearest green with a no tees allowed rule. The only 'tee' allowed was a mound of sand like in the ancient days. Shapotomous
I played a winter time 'keep my swing loose' 9 holes today in the 39* temp. Being close to the river, the wind was steady at about 15mph with higher gusts. I wore enough layers to keep warm and the winter gloves & ski hat/mask did their job. Trying to figure out club selection into greens was a real challenge, only hit 2 GIR. It was good to get out in the fresh air for a walk, saw 2 eagles and quite a few hawks. View from the 3rd green, low tide plus the wind pushing the water away from this shore really lowered the river level here. revkev
Well my putting stank, i actually chunked a couple of chips - usually the best part of my game, my iron play was mostly okay, and in the biggest shocker of all I hit 3 drives in the water - all to the right. I hadn’t played in over a month and expected some rust but the 47-41 was my highest score of the year. The I realized that this is often a result just before I have a little speed jump from SuperSpeed. I also did a work out before playing and my body didn’t seem to want to co-operate at all. :(But I had a blast. Played with a MGS guy who hasn’t been posting much, Sportsman and a friend from a forum that I frequented prior to MGS. We laughed our way around for sure. I’m going to try again tomorrow - I worked out today!!! :)Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy fozcycle, tony@CIC, CarlH and 5 others 8 Quote Taylor Made Stealth 2 10.5 Diamana S plus 60 Aldila R flex - 42.25 inches SMT 4 wood bassara R flex, four wood head, 3 wood shaft Ping G410 7, 9 wood Alta 65 R flex Srixon ZX5 MK II 5-GW - UST recoil Dart 65 R flex India 52,56 (60 pending) UST recoil 75's R flex Evon roll ER 5 32 inches It's our offseason so auditioning candidates - looking for that right mix of low spin long, more spin around the greens - TBD
PMookie
Played 9, hit the ball very well. Still struggling off the tee when I’m wanting to hit a fade with the Honma. Irons were very solid, and putting was +1.7 SG according to Arccos. I changed how I’m holding the putter and it’s working great! Popular Post fozcycle
Played 18 today, first time in over a month. I think I am now recovered from Covid and Walking Pneumonia. I shot a 44/45:89 today with a few pars and no birdies. I gamed my Ben Hogan Ptx irons(shots were 1/2 to 1 iron short). Used my Wilson Triton and absolutely striped it! Fairway wood was a Powerbilt Air Force One 5 wood and it performed!I chose the extra clubs, not my Wilson D7’s, because I wanted to work on my swing.Gonna play again Thursday then Saturday.Sent from my iPad using MyGolfSpy cksurfdude, sirchunksalot, chisag and 8 others 11 Quote Driver: 0311 XF 10.5* w/Project X Cypher 40 gram Senior shaft or 0811 XF 12* w/Evenflo Riptide CB Senior shaft Fairways: 0211 5W & 7W w/ Evenflo Riptide CB regular shaft and Tour Edge E521 9W w/Fubuki HD50 regular shaft Hybrid: None in bag at the moment Irons: Titleist T300 5-PW w/Fubuki MV Senior graphite shafts w/Golf Pride Tour Wedges: Edison forged 49*, 53* and 57* wedges with KB PGI Senior shafts(80 grm). It’s freezing, haven’t touched a club since I got here.I’m already stir crazy here in lock down central. Remind me to never complain about being golfed out ever again, and to have compassion for everyone here who doesn’t live in an area where they can golf year round. and oh yeah... Happy New Year everyone. Let’s hope 2021 is a good one.
