Popular Post JerryB
Owen and I teamed up with our friends Paul and Mark for a scramble out at Silver Ridge to benefit their local high school golf teams. It was as warm as it has been in weeks, with no clouds and no wind. Just a beautiful day for golf. I'll get right to the point: we killed it!!! A (-12) 60, good for third place and two shots off the lead. Just a total team effort. None of us are great, but we only had one shot where nobody hit well. Otherwise everyone wound up hitting at least two putts, everyone contributed pretty much everywhere, and Owen even holed out two chips! Individually, we likely played poorly. Tons of lost balls; at least two sleeves each. Only two holes run adjacently otherwise if you miss it's in the briars and gone. My driver was going right and once I adjusted for it I was good. 3 wood and hybrid were better than usual. My short irons and wedges were really dialed in. Putting was suspect but I always went first and sank four putts. We only had one good eagle look, but had twelve birdies, six pars and no bogies. Third place was good for a foursome at a course even further west that we'd never heard of, but we'll get out there soon! edingc, Reesedw, fixyurdivot and 8 others 9 2 Quote Cobra Aerojet Max driver Cobra Aerojet Max 3 wood and 7 wood Cobra Aerojet 4/5/6 hybrids Cobra Aerojet 7-PW, GW Cobra Snakebite 52° and 58° wedges Cobra King Stingray 20 putter

How were the nerves standing there on the tee of #17? How did the 923's perform for you? The 921 line is amazing and I really enjoy being able to pull them out of the bag and hit them. I was kind of OK the first shot but was shaking a bit the second one after I rinsed the first. I think they're going to be great once I get a few rounds with them. GolfSpy TCB
I have a little bit to unpack from my round yesterday.. shot 79... which is ok... had back to back triples on 9 and 10, which is not ok. One birdie which is 'almost' ok, with plenty of good looks for birdies all day which is both ok, and not ok. Both my triples were the result of an 'out of the blue' outside in swing with an open club face, which is not ok. But the rest of the day - considering I was 6 over in two holes and still shot 7 over par total... is better than ok on 16/18 holes. Mr. Mushball
Sometimes the slightest fault can explode everything else down the line. Played Glendoveer West yesterday, my home course. Felt like I was swinging ok, but managed to duff it a few times. That's my normal, no sweat. Tee to approach is not my strong game. Chipping on the other hand is usually pretty decent, and I couldn't keep myself from hitting the ground most of the time yesterday. That, or way over hitting it. Anything within 10 yards was just not getting anywhere close to the flag. This led to way more putts than I would normally take, including a 4 put on the first hole (sheesh!). My long game was stronger than I though though, still got a new index score (107) for my handicap and shot well below my normal average (115). Was "chipping" from 60-70 yards out with my irons and they were getting to where they needed to be. No more hail mary's with full swing wedges. Those can backfire. Things are looking up. The birdie on #4 didn't hurt either. Getting new clubs this week, can't wait to see if they help tighten things up. Reesedw
Played Sat. In Eastern WA, Played Rock Island golf course outside Wenatchee, WA. Haven't played it in a long time.. Wind was howling, Did not score well, but hit the ball well, shot a 90. 41/49.. Had a couple of miscues, but pretty happy with Ball striking across all clubs.. Driving the Ball consistently in the 250ish range with a couple around 275... The biggest issue I had was putting, the greens were punched and sanded.. I had putts that ended up short, I had putts that took turns. I only made 2 putts outside of 2 feet.. If give myself 2 putts on Half the holes I 3 putted, Just half, I would save 5 strokes.. But I spent the day with my Father in Law Drinking beer and golfing... Sure as hell beats shopping with the wife and Mother in Law.. LOL.. I was not pleased that the course did not give me a heads up when I made the tee time.. but Oh well still a great day.. Popular Post cnosil
Overall pretty lousy day on the course yesterday and I am going to go with the fact that I hadn't swung a club for two weeks. The bad started when I was hitting some shots to warmup before the round; I developed a case of the shanks with the irons and a big slice with the driver. Went to the short game area and hit the ball pretty well so I went back to the range and hit a few more full swings and it was slightly better. Only hit one shank on the course but struggled off the tee for the first 9. Greens were really quick with subtle breaks and I struggled with both distance control and short putts. Definitely a long day all around. Philip_R
On Friday afternoon myself and a friend decided to play a quick 18 holes. With our home course being a 9 hole setup we each played with two balls, one from each tee box to get 18 holes done in just under 2 hours. The last time I played I had some real issues with a very flat backswing and wanted to work on that to get my swing back on plane, so focused mainly on that and didn't hit any of the shots at 100%. Surprisingly it really worked for me, even though I putted like a clown, I carded a 4 over par 76. Equaling my best round for the last 2 years. On a side note, a bright orange Srixon really flies of a driver and 3 wood. I didn't play over the weekend as it was super hot (107 degrees F), so decided to rather go and drive in the Kruger park looking for the big 5 in an dual airconditioned minibus. Kenny B
A nice sunny day; my wife was playing with the Ladies group, so I decided to walk 9 holes. Met 3 guys on the 1st tee and I used to work in the same group as one of them!! It was windy, maybe 15-20 mph; most wind we have had for over a month, quite unusual. My wind game apparently needs some work. Doubled the par 4 2nd hole. which is the easiest hole on the front nine and a hole that I have birdied more often than any other hole on the course. Hit my tee shot where I have never been before; off to the right in the mounds between #2 and #3. Ball below my feet on a steep downhill lie in thick grass. Moved the ball about 40 feet, then hit into a bunker that has a 12 foot lip and 30 yards short of the green; got out but short of the green... up and down for double. Fell on my arse getting out of the bunker!! Note to self... never go there again!!! Also doubled the par 4 7th hole after hitting my tee shot into the #6 fairway bunker. Weather was great; sunny with a good breeze. Course was deserted for some reason. Just a great setup for success. And then I showed up. Had four really good drives and my wood and hybrid were really good too. Everything else was hot garbage . Just couldn't make clean contact. Pretty equal mix of thins and fats. I was swaying pretty badly and couldn't help myself. Ah well...given the chance to do it again, I would be out there every time!! Shot 54/51 105 (+33). On a positive note, I would have been pretty good with this score a year ago. Just keep focus on the positives and don’t beat yourself up on the negatives. Some days are just like that. Swaying is one of the easier things to fix, but with that being said, nothing in golf is easy. Popular Post Rickp
Exec 9 this morning, a tough 9 and after rain every evening makes it tougher. For so treason the Tee location we’re set back to make matters worse. I had my best ball striking day in a long time, before knee replacement. Had 3 drives plug and so did everyone else so it was a search if didn’t hit the green. And the greens they were really nice, bit slow from rain and my putter was liking it. Ended up with a +6 and considering conditions felt like even Par! We had a player drop out last minute due to his wife’s illness so we got a walk on. He was a player, Mostly PXG sticks and younger than us maybe 60. Anyway he was a really great guy to have with us. Playing Big Boy course tomorrow hope rain holds off a bit. Popular Post edingc
Final before work nine of the year this morning. It is just getting too dark in the mornings to see (thankfully No. 10 goes into the sunrise so I can track the ball in a general direction): Tough start bogeying the first four holes. Holes 10, 11 and 12 are probably the toughest three-hole stretch on the course and they always derail my rounds it seems. Battled a bad case of the hooks, but I strung together pars on 14, 15 and 16. On 17, I hooked my drive, chunked an 8 iron to the front fringe of the green, pulled 58 to chip and dropped it in the cup for birdie. No. 18 I proceeded to hit one of my best drives all season, a beautiful draw that eeked out close to 290 yards even though the ball landed in the heavy and wet right rough (a good spot to miss on the hole). Unfortunately, I chunked my wedge to the front of the green and ended up three-putting for a bogey. 40. Reflecting on progress this year, for the season on my nine hole rounds, I've only shot worse than 42 twice (43 once, 44 once) and I'm averaging 39.4. That's a two stroke reduction since last year. Really happy to see that.
