Popular Post Will_Mac
I've played a decent amount since I last posted on 2/7. Since, I've gone in order:79787780797978928476.You might notice that one high round of 92 followed by the 84? I'm self-applying an asterisks for those two rounds. Two days prior, I had a colonoscopy that triggered my stomach to spasm (not my abs, my actual stomach). I first had this issue as a side-effect to the Covid shots I took in 2021. Wasn't having it and the doc prescribed muscle relaxers. So during those two rounds I was loopy while without a looper. That's my story, and I'm sticking to it. But seriously, the elevated scores concerned me, so I ditched the meds before my last round and shot a very controlled 76.Whew... balance in the world restored. Popular Post GolfSpy_APH
Had a solid round yesterday. Was fun playing with 2 new people and a fairly brisk round. Weather was good, company was fun and managed to play well. Not great, no birdies and a couple lost balls, however Really just played solid golf. I am falling back in love with my 3 wood and the thing is an absolute weapon off the tee. Especially with the tees moved up for winter it should be the go to club for all tee shots, however with the driver shootout that just would be no fun. Ball striking is really coming around and it is making me appreciate these irons so much more. The control, flight and distance is just all that I could ask for. I will do further updates in other threads, but the kinda highlight of the round was on 18, I was silly and didn't put my glove back on for the tee shot as my hands were just cold and.. blah blah blah. Anyway I caught my PW a bit out the toe and killed the distance enough to land in the water. Sucks, but that is my fault. So the other two guys hit, one in the greenside bunker and the other on the green. I tell them I am going to hit again from the same spot and this happens... A great bogey to say the least and the closest I have come to a hole in one in a long time. Even though it would not have been at true one and as excited as they were I still said even if it went it, that doesn't count. However a great way to finish off the round and excited to go back Tuesday for another. Tuesday is also with a friend who is getting better and will be the first round of the season I am playing for scores! Popular Post null
Randomly decided to play yesterday and there was nobody on the course so I treated it like a practice round and it was amazing. Was driving the ball well, irons are rounding into form and the chipping is as best as I've ever had it. Golf is fun for me now. Experimenting with shot shapes and trajectories. Digesting the result and moving on to the next shot and managing realistic expectations. The G430 LST is incredible. Best sounding Ping driver ever and there is no debate. TSR2 hybrid was fun to get on the course. Dropped some balls around 230 out on a few par 5s and hit the green with ease. HMB 2 iron was fantastic off the tee. Really allows me to hit a more controlled shot when driver brings far too much trouble into play. Popular Post CarlH
Finally got a nice day without rain and I got out to play. The course is still water logged from all the rain we've had so far this year and you get absolutely zero roll on anything you hit. With all the rain, the greens crew hasn't been able to get out and prep the bunkers nor do much with the greens. We are playing lift, clean, and cheat due to course conditions and sometimes having to take some fairly generous drops (placements) to find some place that isn't borderline casual water or worse. In any case, I shot two over my handicap with an 83, having missed 3 reasonable birdie opportunities. I did make one birdie on #6, only to follow it up with a double when I pushed my 6 iron and it rolled down into a grass hazard bordering the water hazard. Wouldn't you know it? The proverbial PBFU. richk9holes
Got out late, 3pm ish, and the local municipal course Howell Park has a $20 rate to walk 9. This course just reopened 3/1 so the track is near perfect a little muddy in places but beautiful sprawling hills of grass my clubs were happy (aside from when I hit my 5H off a tree root on the par 5 #2 leaving 2 white scuffs, a nice battle wound considering the ball flew under the tree line and ascended to catch the wind 20mph left to right taking my natural fade for a ride to the front of the green from 187 yds away.) Sand traps were wet and compacted so the 1 fairway bunker I had to save I was able to hit a nice 7i on the green like I was swinging off the cart path. I had 3 looks at birdie, made none, 3 putted 1 of them *cringe* and buckled my knees on the other 2. I did make a 8 ft putt on #1, but that was for bogey after I left my AW short and hit a decent flop. The 2 pars were on handicap 15 and 17 and I bogeyed the rest..until I doubled on #9 when a 40yd wedge became a skull over the back of the green. Finished +8 on the 9 holes, but that last hole wrecked me. 20+mph wind gusts felt swirling when I looked at the tree tops I got different reads plus the dogleg right 400yd par 4 makes you aim all over the place if you have to take 3 shots to get there. My drive plugged after about 180 yds, a 4w that should go about 215 went about 190, that's what left the half swing wedge shot to finish with a lazy armed amateur effort that had me wondering "What was I doing out here for 2 hours?" berkeleybob, sirchunksalot, cksurfdude and 6 others 8 1 Quote Finding a way to turn birdies into bogeys since 1992. #TeamChunks '23 Forum Tester: Elixir Golf Ball WITB:TS2 10.5° @ 11.25° Tensei blue AV 55 R graph•917f2 15° @ 16.5° Diamana blue x5ct dialed 70 R graph•Stealth 22° Ventus red 6 (non-velo) R graph• 699u 2i 17° tgi 70 R graph•24° Tour v 90 black pvd R steel•699 6i-PW Tour 110 black pvd R steel• SM8 50°/08° @ 52°/10° SM8 stock steel• Jaws Full Toe 56°/12° DG Spinner TI steel • c series DW 2.0 slant neck stock steel•Phantom 2 gps•Tour v3 rangefinder•Elixir golf ball•
Popular Post Grand Stranded
We played a two man net best ball today, and each team consisted of an A and B player. My partner got 26 shots from the Senior tees, but ended up the star of the day. He shot 45 (net 32) on the front, and 51 on the back, but kept us in 3rd place with a 7 net par on 18. We got home in net 63 and split $80 I had two birdies, and shot 88 with two ugly triples on 9 & 18 ( I simply can’t finish a clean 9 holes without screwing up somewhere along the way, and it’s getting frustrating. Other than that, I played very well on a very windy day. My league tried something new today. We used an app called Golf Game Book. You enter your (and your teams) scores after each hole and it will adjust to net. The coolest feature though is the live scoring leaderboard. You see exactly what every other player in the field gets on a hole, and lets you know where you or your team stands at all times. It was really fun, and made things very interesting down the stretch. It’s free, and I suggest any of you who play in a league, have the person who runs yours look into giving it a try. Once he sets up the game, he’s basically done. After the last group enters their scores on their final hole he has the results for the field. No more going over everyone’s scorecards and trying to decipher their handwriting, lol. Popular Post berkeleybob
The day started like this. And like the weather, my game cooled down. My driver heated up toward the end, but my putter stayed frozen. Can’t wait to get back to my PuttOUT for a booster shot of confidence. I had so many chances on the green to take strokes off the game, but I just couldn’t string enough good shots together make par once. I did have moments, like a couple GIRs and landing the green from 162 yards out. Ah, well, overall it was a fun time. I saw a three-legged coyote hopping along the 13th fairway, golfed with some pretty nice folk this week and kept alive a continuing golf series with my brother. MIHIGO26
Back to the home course this weekend and round in 81 again so last week a complete blip in the system at a difficult links course. Out in 43 including two double bogeys and three 3-putts. Not great but it's obvious in this sense what cost me there. Those 3-putts become 2-putts and the double bogeys become bogeys and there's 5 strokes saved instantly. Caveat that we are still playing off winter mats. Double bogey on 1 - Was trying for a draw and hit a small fade/block about 15 yards off the fairway and in amongst some trees. My second shot I had two choices, try and play a low punchy one towards the green over the bunker that was just infront of me. Or I could go high and hope I didn't catch any branches. I decided to go for the high shot as I felt like there was enough space. What I didn't account for was the follow through on my swing and I noticed halfway on the downswing and completely bailed and it went about 20 yards and I just avoided the bunker. The better play was to try punch a low one over the bunker thus taking out the trees completely, two putt and walk off with a good par save. Poor course management cost me here. Lesson learned! Three putt on 4 - Decent drive down the middle, decent wedge to leave with myself with 28ft (according to ShotScope) birdie putt. Hit it long and left myself 2 foot past the pin, not great but I really should've made the 2 footer and I missed and ended up three putting from a good position. Three putt on 7 - Hit a monster drive round the dogleft left and had the flick of a wedge left into a long par 4. I opted for the safe option and clubbed up slightly to make sure I got there. Had about 15ft feet or so and three putted after rocketing the first putt past the flag. Poor really as it was an easy par for the taking with the off chance of a 3. Double bogey and three putt on 8 - Nice tee shot straight down the middle, had around 140 left to the green, but the green is heavily guarded by bunkers. Pulled my second shot about 20 yards left of the green and had to get up and over a bunker to a tight pin which I then did fairly well and left myself 17ft. Duly three putted again after rocketing it again. Back in 38 which is more than acceptable for me. Some pars, bogeys, and no three putts on the back 9. However the highlight has to be the two birdies made in a row. Putting on the front 9 was what I'd describe as poor for me but on the back 9 the stick heated up a bit. 16th Birdie - Had actually basically hit a slice off the tee with OOB right I thought it was a goner, but it smacked off a tree and bounced back in bounds by about 5 yards Luckily left with me around 80 yards to pin and flicked a little wedge in to 8 foot and then holed the putt for a lucky birdie! 17th Birdie - A bit of a fade/slice ball off the tee again but had left myself 100 yards in, this green has a huge drop off back left and the pin was just sitting nicely infront of the drop off. Tried to play into the heart of the green to avoid the drop off but it rolled and rolled and just stopped at the top of the slope. 25ft to the pin and holed the putt for a birdie streak! At this point I had a look at my score and was sitting at 76 on the 18th tee thinking if I made another birdie I'd be breaking 80 for the first time ever. This hole suits a fade but of course in typical golf fashion I hit an absolutely beautiful push draw that went left of the fairway. I then somehow shanked my second about 45 degrees right into some thick rough. Flicked a wedge to 20ft from the rough and two putted for a bogey. If only I had got rid of the three putts and double bogeys... Popular Post GaryF
Played in a scramble yesterday and I did reasonably well but felt like I let the team down. Didn’t know any of the team members, and we all had some good shots but I struggled a lot with longer irons and surprisingly my drives. They were all really nice and we finished 3rd in our flight. Just been struggling with random mishits of irons and 4h, I think I know what’s wrong but hard to correct. All of my 4h hits were flushed so happy with that. Range sessions have been good though, but can’t score my hdcp. Going to sched a lesson soon. Played the same course today. On the range warming up was hitting strong draw/pulls. Going to the first tee, commented I feel lost with the irons. Long story short, shot a 42/41 (par 72) but very pleased. 11 pars, 10/13 FIRs ant 8 GIRs, 3 u/d’s. Had 2 triple bogies but mostly due to mental errors, and one bogie due to not fully reading a green and seeing a downslope. Irons were 90% better with very slight mishits but ironically my 4h hits were all heavy but still left things manageable. Putting lines and distance control were very good. Feeling better but know there is a lot of work ahead. richk9holes
Took a day off today after playing 5 days straight. Tomorrow weather is forecast as 55° and sunny with 10mph wind, so I'm amped up to get out. Was thinking of exploring a new course, possibly Atlantis near Atlantic City or somewhere in the Princeton area. That depends on when I get on the road. I will update after I play. Update: reservation booked for 1:40 at Mountain View in West Trenton. First time playing there. Decided to leave 45 mins early when I read they have a chipping area by the practice putting green. Popular Post richk9holes
Mountain View GC in West Trenton was a pleasure. Perfect day. 2 friendly gentlemen in my group, playing behind 4 was on the slow side of pace until a single caught up around hole 7 and the 4 of us played at a brisk pace the rest of the round. Started at 1:50pm finished in 3 hours 40 minutes everyone walking. The group was casual and appropriately social. I commented it was a pleasure to play with social people sometimes it can feel like I'm in a library with some partners. One of my playing partners who could hit a nice ball himself told me my control of my shot shape was "impressive" which made me feel encouraged. I had 5 pars and a birdie on a 20 ft putt from the fringe after a 165 yd 5H that was the highlight. 5x 3 putts was the not-so-high-light but playing the 3rd or 4th time with a new putter I can give myself a pass. Hit my driver on or within a few yards of the fairway 13/14 times. Over the moon about this, every time I play I turn my slice more into a power fade. I need to remember to finish swings. Also hit my driver on the back fringe of the 205 yd #13. The wind was not heavy but a cross wind on that hole told me I should take the club that would be at the back instead of a hybrid caught in the wind coming up short. I'd never tee my 4w from there, oddly enough because I'd hit it over. My driver is working with full confidence right now. Too many 6s, but I kept anything higher than that off the card. 44-45 for +17 score of 89 I'm happy with for playing a course the 1st time. 19 putts on both sides I know I can improve if I get more accustomed to the new putter. I hit the ball well enough to shoot in the low 80s with better putting and erasing a couple bonehead wedge misses from 30-60 yards out. Popular Post berkeleybob
Yesterday, I planned to be up near SFO a day before my flight out, but by the time I checked into the hotel, I looked at my flight schedule and it turned out I had much more time than I thought. So on a whim I went out to the course nearby, Poplar Creek, not far from the airport’s landing pattern. With just enough daylight to do nine holes, I set off on my walk. Only thing was, I haven’t carried my clubs in years. I mean, the course is flat, and I’m no wuss. I can do it. Of course, I can. Note to self: pride in moments like this is unnecessary. My best holes were first and last, finding fairways and landing greens—probably because at the start I had energy and at the end I remembered I had spaghetti and meatballs from night before for waiting for me. Canada geese have no respect for a twilight player. Now all I need is a patch for my back. richk9holes, Jim Shaw, JerryB and 8 others 10 1 Quote WITB 2024 DRIVER AEROJET 10.5° | FAIRWAY ROGUE ST MAX 3/15° HYBRID G410 21° | UTILITY 699 V2 U 5/23° IRONS 699 V2 6-PW WEDGES CBX 2 50°, 54°, 58° PUTTER KING GRANDSPORT 35 BALL MODEL | PRO WHITE/BLUE ICE BAG 3.5 LS | PUSHCART RV1S
Popular Post Grand Stranded
Strange day at the office, I played the Fazio Course at Barefoot (par 71) today 1 birdie. 6 doubles and still shot 85. (yes that’s right, @CarlH 6 doubles. Try and top that!) We played low net low gross and I won some shop credit taking second in the A flight net. My cap isn’t where I’d like it to be, but I’m in a good spot as far as making money goes. I’m right on the dividing line for the A and B flights. If I play decently I’m hard to beat in net if I’m in the A, and I’m hard to beat in gross if I have to move down to the B. Will_Mac
It was a "gettin' in yer own way" kind of day.37/40/77 with 3 doubles on the back 9. 2 of them were due to boneheaded decisions where I should've just taken my medicine and moved on. But hey, I wanted to, you know... try. 10 fairways, 11 greens, 32 putts, 4 birds, 3 doubles, one 3-putt (for bogey ). berkeleybob, JerryB, ejgaudette and 6 others 8
Popular Post chisag
... I won't bore anyone with my round today but coming into the very difficult 18th I needed a birdie to shoot 1 under. Pushed my drive a hair into a deep bunker and near the lip. Hit my LW and advanced the ball maybe 35/40 yds but in the rough and above my feet so much, my right index finger was on the graphite. 135yds and opened the face of my 9 iron to counter act the ball so far above my feet, solid contact and sky high landing about 5 feet short of the pin, caught the slope and turned toward the hole and seemed to stop ... but then just disappeared.
