Byrnzee
Played at local course outside Chicago today - The Preserve at Oak Meadows. I've heard great things about this course and have been wanting to get out there for quite some time. The course was in immaculate shape. It's a fairly challenging course, with some tight fairways and fast greens. I decided to put my new G425 Crossover 2-iron in the bag before the round and it was a great decision! Driver not needed on half the holes and was able to cut through the wind that was swirling a bit today. Ended up shooting 83 (40-43) with a couple three putts. Definitely left some shots out there and was hoping to sneak into the 70s but I can't complain at all. Few beers during the round probably didn't help the back 9 much either. Overall happy with the score and looking forward to my next round on Monday! Popular Post GolfSpy_SHARK
Very good holes and very bad holes today. Felt like I knew what I was doing and then not 86 (+15) with a quad, 4 doubles 5 bogeys, 6 pars and 2 birdies. had a couple head scratcher wedges from 120 and in and never really pieced that part of the game together. Some great iron shots including a beautiful 2nd on a par 5 from 200 out and put it to about 7’ for a real eagle chance. Regardless of score was as always a good round with @GolfSpy BOS. will be breaking out the planemate and working some wedges this week Oh and I had to toss my range finder. Popular Post Kenny B
Really shouldn't have played today. Haven't picked up a club since last Sunday; all my joints hurt, arthritis and climate change. Shot a sizzling 49 on the front nine with a double , a quad, and a lot of bogeys. Taking a 8 on the par 4 #7 hurt because I was in terrain that I couldn't get a club on the ball; my best shot was turning a 5i upside down and swinging LH. I would have quit after nine holes, but my wife was having a pretty good round and I wanted her to keep playing. On the back nine I tried to focus on just making contact and not worrying about where the ball went; every shot was hurting somewhere on my body. Shot 38 with one double, but I did birdie the par 5 #18 which I almost never do. Not sure why but we are playing again tomorrow with another couple. EDIT: BTW, we ended up tied at 87. sirchunksalot, GolfSpy_SHARK, cnosil and 7 others 10 Quote “We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

Popular Post BallsLeon
Well, I did it, I managed to break 100! 93 (46/47) My previous best score differential was 29.8, and today is 25.6. Moved up to the senior tees today at Sycamore RIdge, and it really worked out. Takes off about ~700yds over 18 holes, and takes away a lot of hazards on the front 9. Managed to do really well off the tee today, and making smarter club choices instead of just grabbing driver. My 7-wood and 6-iron really stood out today, both on and off the tee. Putted about average, but this is a serious improvement from my last few outings, managed to keep it under 40 . My wedge play was pretty inconsistent, was either a beautiful shot or a straight rocket from the leading edge. Lucked out that the rough was long and catching the balls I sent long. Was a great day on the course, and I'm going to keep playing up! Kenny B
Another struggle for me today. Still sore and the wind was up to 20-25 mph at times. Why was it always into my face no matter which direction I was going? While yesterday's round was horrible front nine; great back nine, today was more even keel... 43/42 for 85. Only one bad hole... triple on the par 5 #9. But OTOH I dang near made my 4th Ace on the par 3 #4... 8i into the wind, little draw, one hop and hit the stick just above the cup; ended up 5 feet away and Yes I made the birdie!! NubianRugby
Played a new course out in PG county called Enterprise. It's a county course but, surprisingly, it was very open today. We teed off at 11:57 and were in the car on the way home at 4:15; that's after hitting the head, taking the stuff out to the car, and taking the cart back. Shot a respectable 96 (48/48), no terrible blow up holes but 3 putts killed me today. Hit 6/12 fairways and had a good day with the driver; I couldn't stop fading, but played it to my advantage on a couple of holes. I hit 5 greens in regulation and went 0/5 on birdie putts, but even worse was that 4/5 turned into 3-putt bogies. BLECHH. Talk about throwing up on yourself. I was pretty strong tee to green, even when I hit a bad approach I was still in a position to get up/down for par, but was repeatedly betrayed by the flat stick. 46 putts on the round really tells the story Obviously this mean I have to sub out a range session for an hour on the putting green this week before I take on Bulle Rock on Friday. Shapotomous
I had hoped to play the match play round yesterday but we didn't get to the course until late afternoon and it was crowded enough even that late that we couldn't even get in a straight 9 holes before dark. We quickly caught up with and joined a single in front of us that had a service dog in training with him. This dog was better behaved than 1/2 the humans I encounter on a golf course! An Australian Cattle Dog, he rode quietly on the cart, only got out when commanded to follow, and sat exactly where he was told until he was told to follow back to the cart. I noticed as he sat and waited he would be watching the guy for the next command and was never distracted by the dozens of rabbits that were all over the course and were always within about 20 yards. We played the first 6 in close to 2 hours waiting on every shot. Then wanting to play more golf than waiting for a shot, gave up and went back to 1 since we were in the vicinity and played the first 4 again and the 9th in about 40 min. As a result of hitting many backyard wedges this week my swing tempo was in good shape and I was making solid contact with a slight fade consistently with all the clubs. Putting was solid with a couple lip outs and no 3 putts. The highlight was the last hole, the 9th in fading light, a nice stinger drive that rolled out on the hard fairway nearly 100 yards to about 285. Then from about 60 yards a low, 1/2 swing 54* that hit as planned about 10' in front of and just to the right of the pin, hopped once and trickled forward taking the break to the left and went in for an eagle! Dang that would have been nice to put on the card in the match play!! I ended up 1 over for the holes played, other than the eagle the rest were pars with 1 bogey and 1 double from a double cart path bounce into a water hazard. Sometimes that extra 40 yards from the cart path bounces aren't a good thing! Looks like the match play round will be Tuesday. fixyurdivot, JerryB, Willie T and 4 others 5 2 Quote Modern Bag: G410 LST 10.5*, Hzrdus Smoke RDX 6.5 Flex; 915F 3w, Diamana S+ 70 S flex; Mavrik 18* 5w; JPX 919 HM Pro 4i; JPX 900 Forged 5 - PW, PX LZ 6.0; Edison 2.0 49*, 53*, 57* KBS Tour 120 S; Heppler Fetch; Ball - MTB-X; Bag - Jones MyGolfSpy Edition! Worst part was that I wasn't even putting that poorly, I was taking good lines but my speed was bad; either coming up a few inches short or running waaaaaay past the hole. Vegan_Golfer_PNW
Shot a 98 today. Felt better than that. Hit some real long putts. Better approach play. Driver wasn’t great but mostly in play. Too many three putts but made up for it with long makes. One hole took four shots out of a bunker. Was super steep and I just struggled. Most clubs hooky today. Need to do a better job mentally slowing down and thinking 50% swing. cksurfdude
Last 9 hole round was almost good... .. 3 tee shots with driver were really good; 1 was thinned but ended up in a good spot; 3 were missed right but only one of those really cost me a stroke (ball was in a fairway bunker on the adjoining fairway!)... .. on those other two right misses I was able to make a good second shot each time... .. leaving me with a short wedge to a back flag on both those holes that I actually hit a little too well (if that's even a thing in golf) - I pitched the ball right over the flagstick both times only to watch it bounce and roll off the back of the green and into deep, thick rough... (I'm usually a bump and run or pitch and run kinda guy) .. forcing me to chip a second time with both times back onto a downslope running away from me to leave myself with a nice looong first putt... So one of those holes ended up a disappointing triple and the other a stoopit double .. otherwise had one par and the rest "easy" bogeys for a +11/46 Continuing Work In Progress! sirchunksalot, Vegan_Golfer_PNW, cnosil and 4 others 7 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ...
