So my perceived "on the mend" game was a little short lived.  A decent round today, not terrible but filled with missed opportunities, bad breaks and luck that wasn't in my favor today.

Just to note though, the course is preparing for the City amateur tourney next week and the course reflected that today.  Tucked pins, cut and rolled greens.  I think conservatively these were running at 12-12.5.  So my up/down and recovery numbers went down from yesterdays round.  A great example of the speed and firmness of the greens;  9th hole is ~530y par 5.  I had about 135 yards in, the green slightly below my position in the fairway.  The green slopes from the back to the front and the pin is in the back, 158 yards to the pin.  I hit a high PW (46º) to land just short of the green.  I landed on the front apron, the ball released rolled toward and past the hole ending up about 2 feet into the 1st cut behind the green.... Played the front with 4 pars and 5 bogeys.  The back was scored similarly, with one shining moment, chipping in on 11 for birdie (about 30 feet).  Back was 7 bogeys, 1 par, 1 birdie....

Got my first round of the year at Lawsonia Links in today.  It's nice having a daily rate historic Top 100 course with available tee times within an hour drive.  Was in the second group out with 2 other singles.  Beautiful day for golf and we got around the course with no delays.  I was the high of the group at 83 with 75/79 for the other 2.  Great morning out and home by 12:15pm.

Lousy sand play (3 holes in a row in the bunker well below the surface of the green).  Burned the edge of the cup but made no significant ones.

No birdies, 2 3 putts and 3 doubles.

It was a very good day on the course although hotter than hades. Greens are coming around since being aerated but it will be 2-3 more weeks before completely healed as long as they keep pouring the water to them. Meanwhile, I hope my play continues to improve.

Wheels fell off on 9 (hit driver where I could not find the ball, then next shot hooked it off the course) and I just couldn’t get back in rhythm after. Had some untimely lip out putts like Rory. Gotta cut down on those.
I am nursing a back injury from Saturday which likely didn’t help.

My partner and I traded bogeys and the occasional par along the front side. We ended up tying with a 48. The back side had me going up by a couple early then he got a birdie on a chip-in. I'll give him that one. A couple of holes later, he sinks a 30ft. putt on a par 3 for another birdie. At this point, I had thought about knee-capping him, lol. We made bogeys on the way in and finished with a couple of 44's for a pair of 92's.

Played this afternoon, and a tale of two 9's due to very slow play ahead of us causing a massive wait between shots. Luckily those holding up the course only played 9 holes, so the back 9 moved along at a much better pace.

Shot 44 / 36 with 9 0f 14 fairways, and 11 of 18 GIR. Those missed fairways were just off the edges, and did not cause any issues, and the missed greens were either just a touch too long, or off to the sides of the greens.

Cold putter today, as I could not get speed dialed in. left too many potential birdies short and had a 3-putt bogie too. 😧

Used my Callaway AI Smoke Triple Diamond driver and was quite pleased, actually ecstatic with both the distance and accuracy off the tee.

Wasn’t really a bad round, but wasn’t a great round either. I’ve hit a point where I really need to play less, work less, and practice more. My iron play is just poor. No other way to cut it. All the other areas are doing ok, not great, but good. But my approach play is my current Achilles heel. IMG_1449.jpeg.916d6b29cd9135005365c9456f0ab97a.jpegIMG_1450.jpeg.95209693f34fbe4b555fd718e2ee5093.jpeg

First time playing at the course so pleased with the score given that - included 2 "chip-ins" - one a putt from off the green and one a genuine chip in with my SW. Very pleased with how the short game is coming - just need to get better with my long approaches!

Is the number of “net birdies” of any importance to our individual standings?  If yes!  I failed to include four (4) net birdies on todays score.

First time playing at the course so pleased with the score given that - included 2 "chip-ins" - one a putt from off the green and one a genuine chip in with my SW. Very pleased with how the short game is coming - just need to get better with my long approaches!

Man - something clicked today with driver and it made me nearly giddy.

Bought the Ai Smoke Max driver last week, but it didn't arrive until after my round, so this was the first week I was able to have it in the bag.  I bought (along with it) a Maltby Pro UL A flex shaft and an All-Fit adapter, as well, as I'm retrying the Otto Phlex journey after having such a ridiculously fun experience hitting @Golfspy_CG2's Auto Flex/Ping 10k combo.

Well, today was the first time I've been able to even swing the combo.  I was initially a bit worried as my swing weight, when calculated at home last night, was C4 - ideal for "Otto Phlex" territory is typically D0 or thereabouts, so this is SIGNIFICANTLY lighter.

Guess what?  Best driving round I think I've ever had.  Effortless power is the way I would best describe it, along with "it goes where I aim it", which is a really fun new development 😉

If you played with my at Kingsmill, you know my miss is a HUGE push/slice to the right.  It's exhausting, constantly on the hunt for my ball, hoping I have a shot or else scrambling to get it back to the fairway.

Today I hit 5 fairways dead in the middle, and another 7 that were within 3 yards of the fairway (I usually mark those with an "ish" on my score card, lol).  Two of the fairways I missed by significant swaths was because 1 hit a tree (that I aimed at, to be fair, thinking it might peel off to the right - it didn't, and plunked down 200 yards from the tee box - fun), and the other I slid my weight forward too soon and managed to slice it into another fairway.  However, on that last one, I teed up another ball and concentrated on keeping my weight back, and BANG down the middle.  I played the crappy one, but STILL you guys, lol.

Anyway, my chipping/putting took a few holes to dial in, and I was +5 through the front 9, and then I parred 8 straight (10-17) and birdied 18 (with a nice "zero putt" putt from the fringe).

It was one of those rounds where things feel "easy", and I guess that's because I wasn't constantly trudging off into the woods / alternate fairways to find my ball.  Funny how much nicer golf can be when you hit it in front of you 🙂

Anyway, I'm VERY excited by this driver combo I've got in the bag right now, which might be the first time I've ever written those words down, so this feels momentous 😉

Thanks for listening to a ramble 🙂

Hey @GolfSpy_BEN - I just looked at my scorecard, and noticed that the Slope/ rating I gave (from online lookup) is different. I noticed this on course when a formerly-par-5 (10th) was switched to a par-4, and a former par-4 was now adjusted (new back tees) to a par-5.

Per the scorecard, here's the updated info:

White tees: 6420 yards

Rating: 71.1

Slope: 126

If I'm correct, this makes my Course handicap a 9 (vs previously an 8 )

No worries if too much to deal with. Just thought I'd be accurate, though 😉

After a good start, the wind died and the humidity kicked in and the wheels started to fall off. Finished the last 15 holes with 7 bogeys, and was lucky it wasn’t worse. Oh well, it happens. Swing felt better but the putter decided to mutiny and left me with three 3-putts and lipped out three birdie attempts that were very makeable. IMG_1454.jpeg.83321257eb7494380668c2ed5892cd65.jpeg

This the Northern Hills in San Antonio?

Played there a few times .... put a ball in the pond on the 1st last time out there and managed to scramble for a par ... only to put down a 5 on that Par 3 4th hole ... not a big fan of that 4th hole

Headed there Sunday

It’s awesome. Plus when I play 18 during the week it’s only $35. I get out at sunrise and am done before work.

That is a great price for 18 holes, especially compared to their weekend rates. What time do you tee off during the week? I might have to give that a try sometime.

Of lately I aim for 5am. The club house isn’t open yet. I pay when I am done. The  folks at the club house know me and remember that I will come back to pay.
