  1. Nailed it right here. When my timing was miraculously on I was shooting in the low 70s. When my timing was off I was scrambling my ass off and shooting in the high 70s. When my timing was off and my short game was off I was shooting in the mid 80s. My goal with this swing change isn't to start breaking par consistently (I've only done it once in my life). My goal is to bring those mid 80s off days down into the 70s. Allow my swing to carry me on days when my short game is crap. I am honest with myself. With a family, work and other hobbies I'll never have the time to become a true scratch golfer. But if I can really get a this swing change down I'll pull in my upper variance to the point where I'll be more consistent from one round to the next and I'll be able to play better on unfamiliar courses.

    jlukes' Swing Overhaul

... So very cool of jlukes to share his journey. I am always amazed at how you can still score with swing deficiencies. When my back is particularly troublesome I can hack the ball around the course and mostly due to an excellent good short game, still score reasonably well. But it is nowhere near as rewarding as hitting the ball solidly and producing good shots. Those shots may get me into trouble, like just long on a fast downhill green or buried in a bunkers face or a myriad of other problems associated with playing good golf. But again, it is just so much more fun to hit the ball really well and shoot a 73 than it is to hack it around the course and grind out a 73. ... I think this is what jlukes is accomplishing, over coming swing flaws that he was able to rise above with athletic ability and a sound short game and still shooting decent scores. His golf going forward is just going to be much more rewarding. Hopefully others in a similar position are encouraged by his video journal. Changing your swing is never easy, but in the end so much more fun than continuing to play with known flaws that hold you back.

  4. I finished up week seventeen in good fashion. I equaled or exceeded my high speed with every club on both sides. My highlights were reaching 118 mph with my yellow stick and 105 with my blue stick left handed. All my highs were with the regular swing, but the double steps are coming along nicely as my body is starting to cooperate with my mind. I also went to the range today to see if I could iron out my ball flight issues, so I took the radar to see if there were any changes. I had a high speed of 101 and a low of 89, but with 11 shots I averaged 96. I'm working on ball positioning in my stance by moving it forward in order to hit more up on the ball, and now I've just got to keep it from going left. Let's just say that I made sure no cars were driving down the road when I hit, I think they need a higher net....just saying. I meant to grab my speed sticks to work on alignment and left them at home. Sent from my SM-G955U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  5. The ball : Wilson Staff Duo Professional, Wilson 's newest 60 compression urethane golf ball. Current gamer : Ksig Distance Distance for irons, wedges, putters woods is exactly what I expect it to be, more or less within the same as the ksig. I think for my woods specifically, it is the best distance ball I've ever hit. For my driver, I lose 23 on average, thanks to shot scope keeping track of these things for me. Which.... Is really odd. I haven't used this ball on a launch monitor, but I have a guess as to what might be going on. I have pretty low driver spin normally, I struggle to get above 2k rpm, and normally I'm in the 1500-1800 range. I think this ball is so good at lowering driver spin that I'm probably in the 800-1200 range and it just falls out of the sky on me. Trajectory - mid Same as my current ball. Spin Hop & stop - high spin but not coming back 5 feet It has noticeably less spin than the ksigs on iron and wedge shots. To compare I hit some full 120y wedges onto a green, ksigs pulled back 5-7 feet, Wilson pulled back 5-7 inches. Feel - soft It feels great, not mushy, not clicky, really the ball feels great. Durability (3 rounds) - like new. The only mark on it was from a drive landing on a cart path. And even that is minimal and came on the first of 3 rounds. Durability seems excellent. Rating Gamer - maybe. I'm very conflicted about this ball. I love everything about it except my drive distance. I'm actually averaging 3 more yards with my 5 wood as opposed to my driver with this ball... But I'm scoring great. I'm also playing it in HI-Vis green, and it that alone has made golf more pleasant this winter. It is so easy to spot from anywhere, I think I could see it on the moon. Finding it plugged hasn't been a problem at all. With the ksig, I'm often hunting for them this time of year. I haven't had to look for this ball at all this winter. Incredibly nice. Notes or writeup I love this ball, but I'm not sure my ego will let me play it only because of my driver distance loss. I'd highly recommend trying this ball. If you want to lower your driver spin, I think it could really help. It feels great, it's easy to spot and is very durable. If you already have low driver spin... Maybe you like hitting your 5 wood further than your driver anyway and this will be perfect.

  7. Hey there. I've been a lurker for about six years and started to donate a couple years ago. For a while every club in my bag was influenced by MGS. I recently got my hands on some NOS Scratch wedges which kicked out a set of Mizunos; and have fallen in love with a Bobby Grace putter which has - at least - temporarily displaced my Gen 1 ER3. Wondering for about a year whether I should pull the trigger on an Arrcos (I'm a bit of a control freak). Love golf! Love golf equipment!

  16. Setup my putting station to practice rolling balls through the gate to work on start line and roll while watching golf last night and today. I start a 1* of error and work my way to 0.5* of error. Decided to try one of my other putters and think that my MLA will be in the bag for tomorrows round. Was consistently rolling it end over end and through the smallest gate. Wish I could come up with a way to work on my short game while watching TV.

    jlukes' Swing Overhaul

Lesson #4 Another lesson in the books and progress continues to happen! Today we focused on power and really engaging the lower body more. We really concentrated on pushing DOWN hard through my left leg at the beginning of the downswing so that I could explode through the ball. The feeling my coach had me working with (and the drill I will be doing at home for the next week) is to have my left foot on a scale and really driving as much of my weight as possible through the bottom of my left foot (keeping the weight centered on the foot - not letting it get out in my toes or on the outside of my foot). By putting more energy into the ground, it will allow me to explode up more as I rotate through the ball. I have already seen swing speed increases, and thus carry increases (7 iron from 172 to almost 180), through the bag, and engaging and pushing off the ground more is only going to increase those gains!

No, sir! Back from another lesson and my instructor - in whom I've placed great faith and trust - wants to change what feels like *everything*! Goal, of course, is to build a more solid, more repeatable swing. But yeah it's hard! So I was already impressed with JLukes' rapid progress but now after trying to make several big changes myself (including the left hand grip which seems especially tough for me) I can appreciate his talent ('course he's starting from a better place and with much better fundamentals)!

  24. We aren’t suppose to do that until week 20. I think the tests are new so the veteran SuperSpeed folks that are adding their input wouldn’t know about those tests. I’m excited to reach week 20 to add variety to my workouts. It’s pouring rain out today. This is perhaps the wettest winter since I moved to Florida - usually I’m looking forward to extra distance off the tee by now - my back yard water way is almost over the bank. That only happens if there is a tropical storm. It’s crazy - kind of like your numbers - really nice. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  27. I just bought a new O Works 7S and wanted to lengthen it, but instead of just adding an extension I bought a KBS C-Taper X flex iron shaft. Figured it could possibly be a similar solution as probably heavier and more "stable" than standard putter shaft. I put an 8" section of foam backer rod in to help dampen vibration. I've never been able to demo one of the Stability shafts yet, so can't compare, but so far I'm liking the feel on my little experiment. Unfortunately going to be a while before I get a chance to roll it on a real green, but loving it while carpet putting in the basement.

  29. Is lefty your dominant or non-dominant side? From my experience all bets are off on those non-dominant swings. I've gotten much faster than when I started and it feels much smoother - I've read a couple of guys stating that they wished they had a left handed club but I suspect that would go out the window quickly if they did - swinging fast is one think, swinging fast and hitting a ball in the proper sequence is quite the other. I have the traditional Green, Blue and Red set make up. I have never done average speed for those clubs because SuperSpeed is about the fastest swings not the average of swings. I have had a week where my fastest swing of the week was with the blue club. It was week 9 or 10 - right about where tchat07 is in his program. The kneeling swings were tough on me at first also. Writing that I plateaued was a nice way of saying that I took a step back - I saw it with driver SS on the range and course also. On the last week of that protocol set, the last two workouts in fact, I spiked. This time around I've plateaued again, for real - my speed is still there both in doing the protocol and on the range or course. Of note right now I'm faster non-dominant with the green club in the double step move and I'm also faster with the blue than the green (actually just as fast with the red as the green for that drill). I think this has to do with timing - the heavier shafted sticks seem to help me time the release better than the light green one on my dominant side. I haven't gotten the timing of that move down yet for that drill.

  31. So had a first this week. I normally do an average for the week of my 3 days top speed swings. Well for the first time in 9 weeks my blue average was above my green average for lefty swings. Obviously not many are doing averages but has anyone had a heavier club end the week higher then a lighter club? I feel like ever since I started the kneeling swings I have had a tough time with lefty swings. Sent from my SM-G950U using MyGolfSpy mobile app

  36. That's awesome! I've gotten it off before, but this time is definitely a little different. I've been working so much over the past 2-3 years (confined to a desk) that I've lost a lot of muscle mass. This is by far the weakest I've ever been at any point in my life as an adult, but I know I can do it. Just gotta push. One thing that's really helping so far is that I've committed myself to reading (from an actual book) daily. I just finished two short works by James Allen: As a Man Thinketh and Out From the Heart. The text from those has helped me pry myself out of bed the past two mornings when I just wanted to kill the alarm and close my eyes for a few more minutes. Altogether, I have a list of 24 books I want to try and read in 2019 (I may not get there, but I'll try my hardest). Of those, here are several my fellow spies may enjoy if you haven't read them already. Every Shot Counts by Mark Broadie Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin The Dichotomy of Leadership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin Iron John by Robert Bly The Practice Manual by Adam Young The Putting Prescription by Dr. Craig L. Farnsworth Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters by Meg Meeker Zen Golf by Joseph Parent Raising Men by Eric Davis The Road by Cormac McCarthy Some of these I've already read in the past, but I want to revisit them in 2019. I've read The Road (one of my favorite fictional books ever) half a dozen times probably. Like I said in my original post, 2019 is about changing a lot more than diet and exercise.

  41. Now that you say this, I'm thinking back and believe I'm coming up on 5 years with mine already. Can confirm this thing is durable. At least 90% of my rounds are walking and I've used it on all different types of courses. This past year I've been mixing in more running during my rounds (to meet SWMBO deadlines) and have found it to be a worthy cart for quick and speedy maneuvers. It's taken a few spills and still keeps rolling with no issues. My version of washing it off includes playing in the rain. This past summer I replaced 2 straps (one for the base and one for the scorecard). Other than that, there's been zero issues with the cart. By far the most reliable part of my game Suffice it to say, the Cliqgear has paid for itself in cart fees and "exercise."

    jlukes' Swing Overhaul

I had my first lesson today and it was the perfect example of treating the disease, not the symptom. In my case, the main disease is a lateral weight shift instead of a rotation. It was clear from the pressure sensor and the video that I was sliding to the target and not getting my left hip behind me. Corey wanted me to simply focus on feeling my weight transfer to my left heel while stiffening that front leg and getting my left him behind me. He didn't want me to change anything else until we saw how the elimination of rotation changed what my hands and arms did. Well the results spoke for themselves. Proper rotation put me in a much better hitting position to the point where I didn't need to flip my hands to make impact. Flipping my hands wasn't a cause, it was an effect. I was flipping my hands and standing up on the ball because if I didn't I would hit 6 inches behind the ball because my upper body and arms were so disconnected. When I had my weight shifting correctly, my arms stayed close to my body, I didn't bring the shaft down as steep, and I didn't flip my wrists. I will continue to drill the left hip behind me over the next week until my second lesson a week from today, but wow, what an eye-opener today was! Before on right, new move with better rotation on the left

He doesn't care how far I take it back, just that it's my wrist extension and pronation that is giving me an illusion that I'm taking the club back further than I actually am. Once I fix the wrist angles, it should solve the across the line and apparent overswing issues Check out this video from Mark Crossfield on this exact subject. These are a severe disappointment, I like a good soft ball that performs off the wedges, but these.... don't. These perform in the distance category only for me. I test balls from the green back, and I didn't care for them one bit around the green. Not worth the price for me to keep playing them.

  48. I'm beginning to think I might have a ball fetish/addiction. Seems every time a new or improved ball comes around I buy them. Some of the ones pictured I'll never play...ie, the HEX balls. Some I've been given for Christmas, birthdays, tournaments, etc. I even have more stacked out on my bag storage rack. I suppose to satisfy my golf addition buying balls are a relatively inexpensive way to get a fix. All told I have 19 dozen (or partial) dozen balls. Is that a problem?
