These GC guys are morons...One just said, Brooks might shoot a 74 today and Jordan has a 65 in them. What on earth have they been watching the past two days.

    My school

My Church has a school that prides itself on the arts. They did a production of Lion King tonight. The costumes and sets were designed by the lovely Laura. The choreography was by our 3rd grade teacher who doubles as a Ray’s girl and our music director went to Ole Miss. I love them, they are an incredible team - look at these kids. How'd you play?

Played today in the first round of our season long match play and gave 31 shots to someone playing two boxes in front of me. I shot 74 gross on my ball and lost 8&7. Net events are great if you are actually truthful in your handicap. I shot two shots over my index and got absolutely dusted. A little tough to swallow when I am playing 7k yards at sea level against a guy that is playing 6,100 yards with a fake index. Completely done with any event that involves any sort of net score. To sum up my day 187 yard par three with a bit of wind in that I hit five iron to two inches and lost the hole to a birdie net one. Complete horse crap. Sorry for the rant and not against legit handicaps but tired of guys that completely inflate their handicaps and shoot lights out in any competitive round. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  10. My handicap index has gone from a 5.4 up to a 5.9 (and rising). Played a full round for the first time with the Cobras today. It was not pretty. Ended up shooting an 87 which was my worst round since last June (also an 87). I'm really struggling with the irons and have bladed more wedges than I can remember. About 90% of the issue is in my head. When I stop thinking about the irons being ultra game improvement and just swing I seem to hit good shots. When I look down and see the cavity back sticking out and think about how I miss my AP2's I hit bad shots. I just need to learn to turn my brain off. My wife says I do that all the time at home already so it should just be a matter of applying it to the course.

  15. Something I noted from the face-on perspective is the almost imperceptible difference between your positions at setup and impact. It looks soooo quiet - truly marvelous. The only change is a slight lateral lead with the knees and your hands have rolled over to close the face a touch (from what I’ve seen down-the-line you actually setup with the face right of target). The other thing I noticed is the amount of shoulder rotation you employ (in both directions). The result is tons of width and shallow action. Your arms stay right in front of your chest throughout the motion. For the Spies trying to replicate @Shankster‘s splashy spinning pitch I think shoulder rotation, quiet hands and speed will be the keys to success. Long swing + short distance = high tariff (ability/feel). And I would subsequently suggest that it’s the kind of motion you can initially improve upon quicker (and do less property damage), practicing without a ball. Although you make it look easy... it is decidedly not an easy shot selection.

  18. I think sequencing/timing may currently be the main culprit inhibiting your backswing torso/shoulder rotation. I like to see the hips lead the transition on the downswing but your lower body begins to move toward the target when your arms are still only chest high in their backswing. I’m not necessarily suggesting you change anything (I like your action), but if you insist on getting that club to parallel, sequencing is probably all you’re lacking. Specifically, delaying your lower body rotation toward the target until your shoulders/arms are closer to the top of your backswing. Edit: but almost all amateurs could benefit from greater flexibility that allows increased rotational angle between hips and shoulders (read: greater angle = more speed). It also helps to maintain posture throughout the swing (another thing we could all do better).

  21. 79 hacks.........again! Timing and staying down/covering the shot is hit and miss just now. Get it wrong with the driver and it's a high push fade (double bogie), get it right and it's a beautiful penetrating shot with a 3 yd draw. Get it wrong with irons and it's slightly fat and low on the face coming up way short. Get it right and a sweet sounding crisp iron going it's full distance. Got it wrong more than right today. Chipping and putting was better though.

    Maltby KE4 TC Fw

Well... initial thoughts are what a club!! Built the 4 with a Paderson Kinetixx Launch FW shaft. The stock weight is in place and its 43" long with a CP2 midsize grip. Swing weight came to a C8. I put it up against my gamer Callaway Big Bertha Alpha. Weight fwd with a Kuro Cage FW shaft. Swingweight is D0. After a good warm up I started with the Callaway. A club I know and trust. It's been my go to,, to hold a tight fairway for quite a few years. Took note of the flight and where it was landing,, (no hard data yet). The sound is a bit tinny but nothing objective. Hitting my stock baby fade. Great club,, can get a bit squirrelly but always stayed in play. Next up was the KE4. Now I have not bagged a Maltby FW in a long time, since the Callaway actually. So I was very interested to see how this would fair. First off was the sound. A more muted sound than the tinny Callaway. When I say tinny it's more of like a high pitched click. The Ke4 has a much more pleasing sound. When i looked up to see the flight it was dead straight but where the Callaway reached an apex Maryland started to fall,, the KE4 would keep going. But it wasnt a low early Apex. It was the same height as the Callaway but it kept going. It was clearly sailing past the Callaway. Next was how straight it flew. Ball took off and held its line. Feel wise was just simply solid. Wasnt a feel like it was a hot face or the ball lept off the head.. just a solid feeling. Much later in the session when I was worn out I started to hit the ball all over the face. A few heel and a bad toe shot. They obviously lost distance and the heel shots had a big fade in them. But each one would have found the fairway. Very impressed with the forgiveness. Also the toe hit didnt turn into a snap hook, just the hint of a draw. I also threw a dozen balls in the deep cabbage,, and I mean deep... to see how it did. With a fairly heavy feel to the club it simply muscled the balls out. I was very surprised to see them get up and fly half way decent. This club does everything well but it might come out of the cabbage better than it should. Looking down at the club it has a nice, old school shape to it. More of the pear type of shape to it. Though it's a fairly shallow head the scallop on top makes it see bigger than it is but not in a bad way. Matby's new releases continue to be flat out amazing. I have been building their product for 20 years and what they have out now I would put up against any OEM. Without a doubt this is going straight onto the bag. I'm on the edge of my seat for the next big release, the ISO-T and I will have a full Maltby bag. If you are even remotely in the market for a FW do your self a favor and get one. 31. Had the chance to play a couple of 9-hole rounds during the week with an associate up from San Diego. Unfortunately I seem to have fallen back to struggling with driver shots all of a sudden after a short period where it seemed to be coming around for me. I continue to swipe across the ball creating that unwanted "power-fade" (ie: slice-a-roni) more often than not. Mix that in with some well struck "normal" shots that go mostly straight and out to my standard 220-230, and then add some monster 250+ shots that start left and go miles straight OB and you begin to see my issues.... My inconsistent driver swing is really making my overall evaluation of this club difficult and a lesson (or 12) is seriously in order to literally straighten me out. The draw-bias tech in this club seems to not be enough to compensate for my personal deficiencies. Right now I'm not sure any club would be able to do that...

    The Search is Over

Well fellow spies, I'm on the verge of submitting an order for a new set of irons (but need some final advice, please read on). Yes, it's true, the earth stopped spinning momentarily and the birds fell silent. After a years worth of research, input from fellow forum members, and 3 iron fittings, my beloved PingEye 2's will soon be sitting idle. Last year in my "Former PE2 Players" thread, I took the first step along this perilous road called "Shiny Metal". That is to say I had, at that time, recently attended a PING Demo and tested the G400's. Having just upgraded from my 90's circa driver and seeing the big shift in driving performance, I succumbed to the idea that similar results could be achieved by upgrading from my 80's circa irons. But, this is where it became a real challenge. There are so many products out there - all promising to be the best golf iron on the market. While the numbers from the G400 demo were positive they, unlike what I experienced with the change in driver, were not dramatic. Initially I kept telling myself that the PE2's are good enough. I hit them well, have distances pretty well dialed, and I'm just chasing hyped marketing. But something kept nagging at me. As much as the frugal, stubborn German-Irish part of me resisted, shiny metal objects kept beckoning . So, last May I sought the help of a PGA club fitter in Bozeman, MT. I shared the details of that fitting in the aforementioned thread. I left that fitting thinking the G400's or Mizuno's were going to get the nod...but time went by, I continued good play with my PE2's and that thinking ebbed away. Then another MGS thread and review would come up, rekindling that nagging question. I spent much of the back half of 2018 and most of this year reading and researching golf irons. Unfortunately, Yuma, AZ does not have any good golf shops and our home here in MT - well, let's just say if fly rods and golf irons were one in the same, I'd be the envy of the golfing community. There were a handful of irons I wanted to test, but they were not readily available. Sure Phoenix and Missoula are only 3 hours drive, but that's still a long day and not real convenient. As part of my stage 2 review of the G410 Plus driver, I had planned to get some comparison data done at my fitter in Bozeman. He had just picked up the KZG line and I had only added confusion to my search for new irons by having range tested the Callaway Apex, PING's i500, i210, G410, and Titleist AP1 while in Yuma. So, I opted to do another iron fitting yesterday and see what panned out. Based on my winters testing, I was leaning towards the G410's. These hit the best/most consistent; so following another data baseline using my PE2 7i, we moved to the G410. I was picking up a club+ worth of carry distance with the Project X 5.5 LZ shaft we had matched with the G400's from last year. What Woody was seeing however is that my contact area tended to be in the toe area. We switched to Pings CB graphite shaft (told him I was wondering about a non-steel option) and did see a slight increase in swing speed, but no shift in contact area. We then changed to a +1 length (my PE2's are +1/2) and that did move the strike zone towards center - and increased carry in the neighborhood of 2 clubs! Dispersion was roughly the same as my PE2's and ball flight the slight left to right fade. I then tried the KZG LDI's and XCB's. KZG makes their own brand of shafts and I tried those with both steel and graphite. Neither really outperformed the G410's. Might others that I was simply unable to test been even better (Srixon Z585,Wilson D7's, etc.)? Perhaps, but at some point you just have to make a decision - and that decision is a brand new set of PING G410's. My only question now, and one that I'm hoping you guys can help with, is whether to get the PW, UW, SW, and LW or ?? I've only had/played the PE2 PW and have my Dad's old SW which I'm unsure of specs. Might a switch to the power loft in some or all of the wedges be an option? Here is a comparison of the PE2 lofts with the G410 (in standard loft) Iron Ping Eye 2 G410 (std. loft) G410 (power loft) 4 25.0 20.5 19.0 5 28.5 23.5 22.0 6 32.0 26.5 25.0 7 36.0 30.0 28.5 8 40.0 34.5 32.5 9 45.0 39.5 37.5 PW 50.5 44.5 42.5 UW n/a 49.5 47.5 SW 57.5 54.0 52.5 LW 61.0 58.0 58.0

  33. I plan on doing a more in depth review of each stage that will include before and after of club head speed, ball speed, and swings with the sticks as well. As I stated this is a very early stage, just competed week 2, and I just got home from the range I am so excited I wanted to share. My end goal is to get my swing speed to 115, and a ball speed of 170. I have been keeping deligent charts, my starting averages are 105 SS and 155 BS. Today, two weeks in, I had multiple swings with a swing speed over 110 and ball speeds over 165!! I am using range balls reading off my Swing Caddie SC200. Very happy with this product so far, and even more motivated to work even harder to see how I can gain even more.

  34. So my 5yr old son (and now 3.5yr old daughter) and I love to go to the course and practice. We can spend hours just putting. However, we would like something we can use indoors for rainy days (of which we’ve had many this year). I know three are countless products you can buy, but it seems like you are going to have to spend near $500-1,000 for something that is high quality. If heard good things about Birdieball and/or using Toyota Camry carpet, but I was wondering if anyone had built their own platform with a regulation sized cup with any success. My thoughts are 2x4’s and plywood, then glue the putting surface over top. If you ever built one, send me your pics and specs please. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy

  35. Having just seen myself in a swing video, I amazed just how short my backswing is. I've never had a super deep rotation but mine is shorter than I thought (looks like @GB13putting ) This has to be costing me some distance and I want to try and get some back. Adding some pause would be nice as well, but first things first. I'm going to start some exercises in hopes of gaining increased flexibility leading to more rotation/backswing. Here's one that looks pretty good. Do any of you use another routine? https://www.agedefyinggolf.com/effective-golf-stretch-improve-backswing-turn/

If it were me, I’d include the pw and the Aw. Then I’d get a sub70 sand and lob wedge, say a 54° and a 58°, with matching shafts (or whatever you feel is needed) and grips And then I’d spend more time learning how the 58° can be used instead of using a bump and run 8 iron. but! thats just how I would do it. I would rather take all the “bad bounce” variables out of the picture, and just pitch a 58° up tight.

  41. Another note on what DLK is saying, if I’m anywhere near the green with a good lie, I will pick this shot 99.99% of the time. I am 100% confident in this type of shot, ask me for a low roller, or a long lag out and I get nervous. Only because I don’t practice those shots. They are all feel shots for me, and picking landing spots. I did realize that when taking these videos I was just hitting the ball aimlessly with out much care where they went... not good practice.

I’ve actually played both courses but to be fair in the 1970’s. Pebble on a normal day was so much easier than Bethpage as to be beyond belief - but throw in some wind and tightened fairways and it’s another story. Bethpage Black is about long and straight off the tee. Pebble will be about approach shots - neither will be much about putting other than getting the speed right. Did anyone else notice how average Tiger’s ball speed was today? He was 10 plus mph off of Brooks or Adam Scott. Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy
