GolfSpy MPR
As noted above, was able to get to a range on a family/conference trip to North Carolina. Had the whole family with me, so we all had a blast trying to hit the various targets on the range. For me, it was the first chance to hit real balls and watch them fly since October, so I went in with few goals. I have a couple of swing things I've been trying to ingrain this winter, most of which start with better wrist angles/face control. With that, I'm trying to feel two things: my backside move a bit away from the ball as I begin the downswing, and the downswing feeling like it begins by pulling with my lead shoulder, rather than by starting with my arms and hands. The session was all I was hoping for: fun with my family (especially my son), and encouraging, as I was close enough to target on a decent percentage of shots. And now, back to the land where 2 feet of snow still cover the course. Waiting for April, or May. cksurfdude, MattF and Kenny B 3 Quote TS3 9.5°, Tensei Blue CBX T3 15°, Project X HZRDUS Black Epic Super Hybrid 18°, Aerotech Steel Fiber FC HYB S C722 21°, Ventus Blue 8S CBX Iron-Wood 25°, Project X HZRDUS Black 6.0 639 CB, Aldila NV 95 Graphite, 6–PW CBX 48° T22 54° and 60° EAS 4.0, Garsen G-Pro grip TP5x and Tour Response Full WITB with pictures

AWLBMW
Tinkered with putting grip. Alternated on practice green between double overlap and the pencil grips. Settled on double overlap, with putter position parallel with center line, and ball just ahead of stance. Also practiced hooded 64* chips. Lipped out a few and had some tap-ins. cksurfdude
Nick Faldo would disagree with you. He says at most a 9 iron. Anything more puts too much spin on the ball. I tend to agree with him. Generally I bump and run with 8 iron or 4 hybrid. I will bump wedges into the rough to kill them on downhill shots but that's not a true bump and run. cksurfdude
Every course is different; green speeds vary. However, take a look at using different clubs based on how much your chip flies vs rolls. You have to figure out what works for your greens. For instance, start with a PW if the distance to the green is the same as the edge of the green to the pin (50% fly; 50% roll). Then use less lofted clubs when less fly more roll, and more lofted clubs for more fly less roll. Your starting club may vary, but use whatever club will get your ball on the green and roll like a putt. Doing this allows you to maintain the same basic stroke no matter what the fly vs roll ratio is. Leads to more consistency.Yes! "Figure out what works for you" and use a single, simple motion - just change clubs to make it go further.(and/or change ball position to launch it higher or lower) Also see Paul Runyan's "Rule of 12" Kenny B 1 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... cksurfdude
Last night after things settled down a bit after dinner, I worked on putting a bit. I'm trying something I've been hearing more and more about in reference to the putting stroke as a whole-that is the 1/3 to 2/3's principle. My stroke has been 50/50 (50% back & 50% forward) and I'm not consistent at all with it. By only taking back by 1/3 and following through by 2/3's, I'm seeing a bit of light and it's promising. I'm thinking that with less of a backstroke, it's taking some self-introduced flaws away and the 2/3 forward stroke helps to project the ball toward the target area more crisply. I will continue with this method for a while to see if there are true results for me. In Phil's "Short Game" video he demonstrates something similar .. though he promotes 25/75 which he says he learned from Jackie Burke. cksurfdude
I vary stroke length with constant tempo. I don't worry about follow though, it just happens and in my case is significantly longer than my backstroke. With this approach you can use a metronome or internally make a tempo. I started by identifying points for different distances. Hands Halfway to right foot = 5 feet Hands Inside of right foot = 8feet Hands Outside of right foot = 10 feet. Figure out your marks and it starts to become a feel for distances. When you get to the course you can roll your baseline putts to see if the green is faster or slower and make the necessary adjustment. Hey @cnosil -How do you calibrate the width of your stance? And how do you check? (eg. like at shoulder width, or just outside, or whatever) Thx! AWLBMW 1 Quote WITB of an "aspiring" play-ah ... revkev
Ended up taking a lesson on Friday. Just fell back into a bad old habit over the course of the past month. My teacher actually saw one swing and didn't charge me. He added a wrinkle to a drill that he gave me a couple of years ago and also told me that I should use that drill often - even when I'm hitting the ball well. When I get off it's because I'm taking it back inside and trying to drop the club further inside. That's just my tendency. I have to know it. STUDque
Hit the ole shag bag at 75/100 then backed up to 150/160. The draw came back. I figured I'd better capitalize on it and build the muscle memory to (hopefully) keep it coming back. Once I got a handful of draws under my belt, I started alternating shots draw/fade/draw/fade. Had better control with the draw but better height and spin with the fade. Hopefully I can do both on course when the situation calls for it. At this angle, the practice green is only about 10 paces by 20 or so wide. If more than half the balls landed on the green, it was only just barely. That left a chance for some extra short game work too. Side note: that back part of the practice fairway has a decent sized tree to protect you from errant shots coming down the adjacent 9th hole. The sound echo coming off that tree of strike impact is a very satisfying *SPLAT* Sent from my iPhone using MyGolfSpy Rickp and GolfSpy MPR 2 Quote In my Pisa, riding on a 3.5+ G410+ EXS 5W King F7 Hy i500 5-GW Equalizer 56/60 Heppler Ketsch

I haven't before but now I'm trying to mark out some guidelines in my setup to try and get it more (dare I say?) consistent..... Consistent setup is key to hitting any club. I spent a lot of time just practicing taking my stance to make it consistent. Then I spent time being able to start the ball on intended line no matter what stroke length was used. Peaksy68
Decided to try out a ten finger grip after reading through Plaid's thread. My hands definitely aren't too quick, they're closer to dead than quick. It seemed to work well with irons, not so great with driver and 3 wood. Ball flight was difficult to judge properly as it was very windy, but it seemed better than with overlap grip. I felt I had better control of the club face, and was releasing through the ball better. Might be worth working on further. cksurfdude 1 Quote 849 Pro Evenflow Riptide 6.0 F8 3 & 5 Woods Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 TS2 7 Wood Project X Evenflow Blue 6.0 MP18 MMC - Project X LZ 5.5 Zipcore Wedges 50,54,58 - Project X LZ 5.5 MLA Tour Mallet 33" Z Star Pioneer bag buggy
GolfSpy MPR
Hit some balls in the garage today (still well over a foot of snow on the ground here, even though it hasn't snowed much in a couple weeks). Spent time with the dry erase marker, drawing crosshairs on each ball before I hit it. Good way to check both dynamic lie angle and strike location. Turns out, I'm not good at hitting the golf ball. That kind of immediate feedback is really helpful. Lie angle at impact is generally pretty good for me, but my strike location is right next door to Hosel Rocket City, which is terrifying. Worked on intentionally hitting different parts of the face, to make hitting the center more of a skill. But lots of work remains. MattF
@mpatrickriley you can also put masking tape on your clubs and draw a straight line with a sharpie on the ball, does the same thing and all you have to do is take the masking tape off the club when you're done. cksurfdude and GolfSpy MPR 2 Quote In the bag: Driver: Darkspeed X 9° UST Mamiya LIN-Q M40X Blue 7F4 Fairway: Apex UW 19° & 21° Project X HZRDUS Smoke RDX Black 5.5 Irons: JPX 923 HMP 5-PW UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Wedges: T-22 Denim Copper 48°, 52° & 56° UST Mamiya Recoil 95 F4 Putter Sycamore 005 Wide Blade Bag: Fairway 14 stand bag Balls: Chrome Tour Cart: CaddyLite ONE Ver. 8 God Bless America, God save the King, God defend New Zealand and thank Christ for Australia!
