What/How Did You Practice Today?

This week is our member guest at my club and I could not play in it due to some family travel. They shut the whole facility down to anyone who is not playing in the tournament.  I was going through withdrawal not having hit a ball in days.
I live on the 16th hole of an upscale public course and went to their range yesterday.  I was told I had to join as a social member to use the range.  $65/month for range balls.  This was a new development.
I explained I have lived on this public course for 16 years and I simply paid $10/bucket when I had hit there previously, including a few months ago.  The pro shop guy was insistent that I had to join and then could purchase range balls.  Finally he relented and I bought two large buckets for $35.
I hit every ball as if it was the last ball on earth.

I know we are in inflationary times but has the price of range balls has escalated to $17.50 a bucket?

New driver came yesterday night, so got up first thing and hit the range. Was raining, but got about 100 balls in.

Warmed up with 9 iron, half swings into full swings. Felt good. About 15-20 balls

Moved up to fairway wood off the tee, and got in the groove for that. About 10 balls.

Spent the rest of the time working on driver. Was very confidence inspiring for me, was hitting mostly right down the pipe. Not crazy distance right now, but huge improvement over going OB every time.

Focused on my setup/address, tee height compared to club head, and grip across all clubs.

After a horrible putting round on Thursday I focused on practice on my SKLZ mat yesterday and today.

Yesterday was sets of 5 and 6 balls from 3-7 1/2'. Made 31/32 only miss was from 4 ft and was on line but didn't get up the "hill" and rolled back.

Today I made 24/24 in sets of 6 balls from 3-7' and decided to bank that good feeling. I figure if I can replicate those 24 putts on the course there won't be much more putting work to be done for a decent score.

While that’s consistent you are robbing your self of distance. If you got the marks on the other side of the center line and above it you would gain a good amount of distance thru improved launch and spin

$10 for a small bucket w/ 40 or so balls where I go, so not far off. I thought it was expensive when they raised it and stopped going so much.

Both those prices are crazy high, especially for @Caddie1966. I mean $17.50 a bucket, that sounds like robbery to me.

The range I go to has small buckets which are around 40 balls for $5 and it's $10 for a large. I used to pay $80 for a range pass that consisted of 15 large buckets but when the new owner bought it, he did away with that.

The going rate for 100 balls is $15 here. The range has top tracer launch monitors attached to the bays, so it helps to justify the cost

That would definitely be worth it having access to Top Tracer. I wish we had something like that close by.

It has been well documented here how much I love the Paradym TD. The thing is truly a beast. So freaking good. I would love to put it up against my G430 LST. I am not sure there would be too much of a difference, but it is something I would be curious about!

Biggest difference I saw was in spin, which also equaled distance. G430LST w/ Kai’li 60x was around 2800rpm. Paradym TD w/ Kai’li 70x was around 2200rpm.

Went back to the range today and boy was I sore. I hit about 150 yesterday and could only muster 50 today before my swing fell apart.

good news is that swing is getting more consistent and dispersion on all shots was much tighter, so I’m pleased with that progress.

And to the PGATSS Foresight sim and dialed in the weight placement in the 9° Paradym TD, then dialed in the adapter settings (N -1), then did a ball test (Vice Pro Soft/ProV1/AVX) of relatively low spinning balls to see which ball gave the best spin/launch/dispersion/distance.  I was surprised to learn the AVX won out, but not surprised that the Vice was a close second.  I have been gaming the Vice; will try the AVX now and see how my irons and wedges like it!

It was a very productive 90 mins.

Working at getting better ... and very slowly getting there.

$10 for a small bucket w/ 40 or so balls where I go, so not far off. I thought it was expensive when they raised it and stopped going so much.

A few months back it was $10 for 90 balls.  Crazy prices now.  No Top tracer.  This course gets ALOT of play so the range balls are pretty beat up.  I had a few that I hit well but dropped out of the sky like a duck in hunting season.  Luckily, the member guest is over tonight and I can get back to my club tomorrow after my grandson’s pitching as the starter in an 11 yr old baseball all star game.

Went out and replayed some holes I didn’t play well yesterday evening. Doesn’t count towards yesterday’s round, but still felt good and always can use the extra practice. Hit a 277 yard drive on a Par 5 that I doubled yesterday that carried two left fairway bunkers. Shanked my 3 wood but recovered with a PW that just missed the green. Bump and run with the PW to 14’ and sank the putt for par.

Practiced chipping and putting at the NKGC practice green for about 90-minutes today. Started with lag putts of 30, 40 and 50 feet and putts of 3 to 10 feet both of which are my weakest areas in putting. Then practiced chipping from different lies in the rough and putting out.

Back to the range today.

Warmed up with SW, trying to place shots close together about 50-60yds. Then 7i, which felt great. Knocking them straight. Thought to pull out the 6i to see distance between the two, but was having a hard time feeling the swing. Pulled out the 5H that usually gives me trouble, but today I was hitting a nice fade for whatever reason. Finally, finished off with new driver which was great until my swing started falling apart into a slice from being tired/sore. About 140 balls total.

Currently the weakest part of my game is putting.  I spent a couple of hours today trying to improve my putting. I am playing a round of golf tomorrow with a friend and will see if my practice today will pay off.

Today I played a round of golf with a friend at a local course.  I played as well as I ever had.  I will have to look at my history, but I am thinking this was the best round I have ever played.  I recently started playing a new ball, and my distance off the tee, and accuracy, greatly improved.  Driver and putter performed wonderfully today.  Short game was not bad either.  What I need to work on now is long irons.

Since today was my only day off this weekend, I spent it taking care of some things around the house and spending time with my wife, so I didn't get out to practice today.

Instead, I got out the PuttOut mat to get in some time with the Agera. I only putted for a little over 30 minutes trying to make a perfect putt from each distance.

From 1 foot it took 6 putts, 2 feet 25 putts, 3 feet 5 putts, and 4 feet 34 putts. I stopped after 45 putts at 5 feet because it's about time for bed.

Something I will say about the Agera, our lives up to the hype of being a forgiving putter. I intentionally hit putts off the toe and heel at 3 through 5 feet and the ball just went straight at where I was aiming. I'll have to take video of this soon and post in the Cobra thread.

So far out of the clubs the putter has been the one club I don't have a lot of confidence in, but if I keep this practice up it might just change that.

My tee to game is getting much better

losing strokes on my scorecard due to my short game.  I worked in my putting last week and it was good last round. But my decision making around the greens to still poor.  I have all the shots around the green but it’s a mind game

Today I decided to putt /roll the ball like a putt with iron/hybrid/wedge when I can (some call that chipping but it’s a putting grip/motion )

If I can’t then chip or pitch( I been overthinking what chipping is ) basically for me it’s the same just further

if I can’t chip/pitch then it will have to be a speciality shot I use maybe once every few rounds.  That is would Greenside bunkers spashout or flop

I been overthinking too much   Of course the best way is to get on the green or the fringe every time so I don’t need to chip/pitch/flop/sand shot

Went to the range on my lunch break to work on the top end of my bag today. Been struggling with my 5-7 irons and woods have been inconsistent at best. I did OK with my 7 iron, but the 5 and 6 I had a ton of fat misses. I am also noticing that the majority of my divot seems to come from the toe side of my club. For the Cobra challenge, I was fitted into 3* upright for my irons, so that may help alleviate some of that, but it comes down to the operator and not the equipment. To my surprise, I hit great shot after great shot with my 3 wood off the deck. I have struggled with that club off the tee to this point this year and haven't even tried it off the deck in rounds due to that fact. Whether or not I can repeat that into playing rounds is another story, but I was really happy about that. My 3 hybrid also performed quite well today on the range, but I have gotten some good shots out of that already this year. I was also consistently finding the center of the face on my driver, but all misses were hard fades/slices. I would say about 60/40 for the fade/slice against a straight ball. Again, being fitted into the Aerojet Max driver for the Cobra challenge, I'll be curious to see if that helps a bit with that miss. I currently game a TSi3 and have it set lofted up .75* and draw biased, with the sliding weight in the heel.

I need to remember my tripod so I can see what I am doing with my swing with long irons to determine what is causing that consistent fat miss. 8 iron and down I have been hitting really well lately and am super confident in those clubs. That could also play a role in my struggles with long irons. I also ended up overthinking quite a bit and that is not a good combo when missing.

League tomorrow night so I'll get a little warm up on the range before that, and hoping to go back to the range Wednesday afternoon over my lunch break again, depending on how I am feeling physically.

Sounds like your hands are getting too high at impact which is more than likely due to early extension to compensate for a steep shaft.

Putting practice, trying to make this a more regular thing to develop muscle memory knocking in putts from 2 1/2-7 1/2 feet.

I keep increasing the degree of difficulty, so happy with 29/32 ~90% made.

I ran this rack real smooth:
