Play aside, how'd you like that Tillighast track?

The course is absolutely beautiful!  There was a big wind storm in 2008 that took out a lot of trees, but it still has plenty.  There is a creek that meanders through the course on many holes; front and back nines.  It's in play off the tee and on approach shots in front of greens.  One hole I was not particularly fond of was #14 I think.  They only had concrete hole markers in the ground; looked like headstones in a cemetery, so I never knew what hole we were on.  #14 is a relatively short par 4 going up a hill.  Here is a pic from the tee:

IMG_0727.jpg

If you can't carry it on top, it rolls all the way to the bottom of the hill.  Unfair for us shorter hitters.  The only way to get it to stop before the bottom is to hit your shot to the right in the rough.  Easy hole for bigger hitters though.

We don’t stop playing the game because we get old; we get old because we stop playing the game.”

I only have my league nights and the league end of year tourney if I make it. I lost in the first round last year and my swing is worse this year, lol. No other tourneys scheduled.

My wife and I are strongly considering playing in the 1st Annual River Forest Couples Tournament to be held on July 21st. On thing that may be an issue is I have a handicap but not a GHIN.  It's a 9 hole shamble / 9 hole scramble format and would be a blast.

Couples Tournament219.pdf

It's for the first 50 couples that sign up so hopefully I (my handicap) will get approved soon...

Our Mens Golf Association puts on at least one tournament a month, sometimes 2 during the summer months.

This month we are playing in a "Flag Tournament", it's something I've never heard of and it's the first time we've tried it....here's how it works.

Everyone tees off one the first hole so there are staggered tee times.

Each person is given a small flag ( like surveying companies use), on the flag is your name and a number. The number is your course handicap plus 72 (par for our course). For example my course handicap is 17, so my flag will say 89.

so you play a normal round of golf and when you hit the shot that corresponds with the number on your flag, you plant the flag where that shot ends up. If you finish all 18 and still have strokes left to play you go to the first tee and continue playing until you reach your target number.

Winner is the person whose flag is the furthest.

Thoughts? Anybody ever played this format before?

Well, we shot 69, and are tied for second, 3 shots behind the leaders who shot 66. My partner and I ham and egged out way around, but we both played well, so hoping for the same tomorrow. I need to make some birdie putts though, I do t have any birdies today. Didn't putt horribly, just didn't get anything to fall. Maybe tomorrow.

We were in the final group and it was one of those days where we played like our handicaps. The course was really difficult the lowest round of the day was 70 and that was by 2 scratch guys. A lot of scores in the mid 70's, we shot 78, had a good time and learned a lot about our games while playing in the final group of a tourney. We. Oth have come along way in our golf journey the last 4 or 5 years so even having a chance to win was good experience. We got 3 place in the championship flight, so it wasn't horrible.

Got a tournament coming up in the Dallas area this weekend at a links style course called Split Rail. Should be a fun challenge, sounding like the setup is gonna be right at 7000 yards which is a tad lengthy for my liking but everyone else there has to play it too right?

Just finished my match play. Had a couple bad holes but still shot 84 (+12) Guy I was playing had a 6 handicap and shot 71 (-1). I was a 16 and took him to the 18th down 1. Both pared 18. Couldn't be more even in my opinion. Had fun just couldn't pull it off. Not bad for my first ever match play.
