Golf Club Brush

Recommended Posts

Just a curious question.

I always have had the common golf club brush- metal bristles on one side and a soft brush on the other.

Upon going to buy a new one yesterday I saw an article about how you shouldn’t be using the metal brush on your irons. I always have thought metal brush for irons/wedges and soft brush for driver/woods.

All my years I have used the metal brush before every iron shot, if the club needed it due to dirt on the face or dirt/sand/crud in the grooves. I personally have never noticed more then normal wear on the club face but after reading that particular article I can possibly be damaging my iron using the metal side of the brush.

Anyone have any comment on if they use a metal brush on their irons? Have you damaged your irons from brushing? Etc

Been using this one for years, small cheap and works awesome! Bristles are brass and I have never noticed any adverse effects on my irons aside from keeping the groves clean.

I always used the nylon bristles and a tee if I need to get mud/dirt out of the grooves.

I use the frogger brush, mix of nylon and brass and I've never thought twice about it.

It's a non-issue, hitting a shot out of a bunker will put more abrasive force on your club than you ever could cleaning it with a brush.

Only thing I notice is if you take the wire side and go up and down on the face you're gonna scratch up the face, but as long as you're going with the grocery I haven't had any issues

I also use the Frogger brush, but just the nylon one. I'm a bit leary of even brass on forged clubs.

Depends on the finish of the golf club, but certainly as far as the metal itself goes brass bristles will never harm the club face because brass is a softer metal than steel. If you're worried about the club's finish, stick with nylon though.

I seem to get jabbed by the brass side of those brushes all the time when I had it attached to my bag (plus snagging my golf shirts)...so much so I stopped using them and now take a damp golf towel to clean the club/club face after almost every shot.  Does as good a job as the brushes.

Same with me. I switched from the generic nylon/brass bristle combo to a Frogger with just nylon. I did it not just for my clubs, but for my bag also. Having a brush with metal bristles swinging can cause damage to a nylon bag.
