Congratulations @sotall 👏.  Nice to see someone actually graduate from this school 😆.  As per the thread rules, you are still eligible to return and chorttle at "close encounters".

So... you have changed your mind?  I'm not banned?!  🤣

Without a doubt, the closest I’ve come in  my 30+ years of playing this grand game. When I asked @Getoffmylawn if that was a gimme. He said, nope. That’s for birdie. Consequently, he made his birdie putt as well.

Nice!! 👊  Now back to the drawing board... err, tee box 😊.

Tried to get myself out of this thread today.   First par 3 I was about 8 feet away....not bad..

Second par 3 I was about 10 inches away.  Ball landed about 2 feet short and ended up just to the right.

Third Par 3.  Ball hit past the hole and spun back.  ended up about 4 feet from the hole.

While I cannot qualify for this long-running thread (I have 4 aces myself), I just wanted to post here to provide some hope for all of you.  A friend of mine (who does not do online web much, so will not be here), just had his first ace, at age 70!  He's been playing for 45 years!  Always complains that he would never get one whenever conversation gets around to who have had any.  And on that day, he almost cancelled his tee time because this or that hurt, and it was too cold, and yada-yadda.  But he got his first ace!

I was told to add this to this club that no golfer wants to be a part of and wants to get out as soon as their next round.

Not today but last week. Sierra Sage, 4th hole, PAr 3 up hill. 148 yards to a blind pin. This is where it was when I got there. I have never had a hole in One, this is the closest. The ball is actually above the hole, so it wrapped around it.

FWIW, I would take a lifetime of these over one Hole in One.  .

Not quite good enough.   142 flag to into the wind.   Hit, spun back, brushed the edge and stopped.   🫤  The plus side is that I didn't miss the putt for birdie.

This threads been pretty dang quiet this season.  I would have expected a few more graduations and lots more "near misses".  Personally, I've been on a rather ho-hum stretch of par 3 play.  My scoring on them has been okay, but proximity to the hole not so much.  Our Mon/Fri group play KP's and I've faired okay there too... but I want off this life raft!!  😆

Does it count if you nail a hole-in-one in a golf simulator?

I’ve been playing in a local league that uses GOLFZON simulators. We meet up once a week during the off-season. A few months ago, I got an Ace on hole 4 at Pebble Beach on the simulator. Our group erupted in cheers, and the organizer even added my accomplishment to the league’s website and social media pages. It was an unforgettable moment, to say the least.

Now, whenever I’m out on the actual course with others, this comes up. Some of my golfing buddies say it counts, while others aren’t so sure. What do you think? Does a hole-in-one on a simulator hold the same weight as one on a real course?

In my opinion…no.   If you choose to count it as one make sure you qualify it as done on a simulator.

I would have to say no as well.  Not that I wouldn't be stoked to hit an ace on a sim, but I don't think it carries the same weight.

I guess it would be interesting to see what the odds of hitting one on a sim is vs outdoors.  The variables outdoors are so different and change second by second.

I would definitely say to be proud of the accomplishment and don't be afraid to mention you did it. I wouldn't necessarily just blankly say I had a hole in one, though. Just add that you did it on in a sim league.

But I agree with others that it doesn't really count or hold the same weight as doing it in real life. Doing it in real life does not rely on algorithms or launch monitors to decide if you do it or not. That's really where I say the line is drawn.

... As someone who has flown the ball in the hole not once but twice and had it come back out both times damaging the front of the cup, I would say a pretend digital hole in one on a screen doesn't count for anything but an amusing anecdote. Sounds like fun though!

Congrats! I aced hole # 15 at Spyglass Hill on an HD Golf simulator but have still never had an ace on a real golf course, although I have been within 4” and have hit the flagstick at least 4 times (once on a par 4 hole).

Does it count if you nail a hole-in-one in a golf simulator?

I practice at a Toptracer range, and they have a weekly contest that is usually closest to the pin on whatever course the pros just played (the Postage Stamp at Troon this week). Nearly every week it takes a HIO to win, usually about 150 players. That's way too often to be anywhere close to real life odds.

Personally, I don't count sim HiOs, I'm afraid. Through winter I practice on sims and over the past couple of winters I've had two sim HiOs. One in a solo practice round, one when playing with friends.

I haven't had a 'proper' (real course) hole in one yet. I've been VERY close a few times, but as yet no luck.

But everyone is different and it's how you feel about it that really counts. Well done though- great shot!
